Instructions for the Hugs’" Infant Tag
— Please Read These Instructions Carelully Before Proceeding —
The Perceptls" Hugs Tag is part of the
Perceptls
Hugs Infant Protection
System, These instructions describe
how to prepare, place, tighten, remove,
and clean the Hugs Tag.
The
Hugs Tag's patent pending
features prevent an infant from kicking
off the Tag without the Tag being too
tight or uncomfortable around the
infant's leg. To achieve this, it is
important to carefully follow the steps
below and to align the Tag correctly on
an infant's leg.
To engage the Hugs Tags tamper
mechanism for preventing
unauthorized Tag removal, use only
Instantel' Hugs Tag straps (p/n
50507201).
Items Required
. Hugs Tag(p/n 905A1701)
Hugs Tag Straps (p/n 80507201)
Bandage scissors
Warnings
Straps insert into the tag slots in
one direction only, moving from the
bottom cfrhe Tag through to the top
Attach straps only in the designated
secure area. Otherwise the Tags are
not automatically enrolled in the
PerceptIs Controller sofiware.
Straps are disposable and cannot be
reused, Do not use straps if they
have been engaged with the Tags
temper mechanism or if the sealed
ends have been cut off.
Connecting a Strap to a Tag
To connect a strap to a Hugs Tag:
1.
Align the strap with a tag slot to
ensure the message “This Side Out"
remains on the outside orthe loop,
away from the infant's skin.
Insert one end of the strap into a
tag slot and push the strap through
From the bottom to the top of the
Tag. Push through approximately
1/2 in. (1.2 cm) ofstrap,
Trim the strap flush with the top of
the tug. Use a pair of bondage
scissors. Hold the trimmed end to
prevent it From flying off.
To engage the tamper mechanism,
hold the Tag and strap in opposite
hands. Give them a sharp tug in
opposite directions (approximately
1/4 in., 0.6 cm) until you hear a
small snap as the strap engages the
tamper mechanism. The tn'mmed
end should not protrude from the
slot.
5.
Insert the loose end of the strap
into the second tag slot to form a
loop large enough to fit over an
infant's [not and ankle. Push
through approximately 1/2 in. (1,2
cm) of strap
areas-a ,.

no not pull back on this side of the
strap to engage the tamper
mechanism at this time (see the
following section).
Placing a Tag on an Infant
To place a Tag on an infant:
1.
Align the Hugs Tag with is round
edge pointed towards the infant’s
knee. The top of the Tag with the
label should point outward, away
from the infant's skin.
Place the loop over the infant's foot
and position the Tag and strap just
above the infant's ankle.
.n . . . i e o A
Size the strap to be tight enough to
ensure it cannot be removed or (all
off but loose enough to prevent
harming an infant. Locate the end
of the strap not yet engaged with
the tamper mechanism. Carefully
push this end through the tag slot
(from the bottom of the Tag through
to the top) to snug the strap around
the infant‘s leg. The strap can be
quite tight on the infant at this
point. (When the temper
mechanism is engaged in step 5.
the strap is loosened by
approximately 1/4 in. (0.6 oral.)
Trim the strap flush with the top of
the tag. Use a pair of bandage
scissors. Hold the trimmed end to
prevent it from flying off.
5. To engage the tamper mechanism,
hold the Tag and strap in opposite
hands. Give them a sharp tug in
opposite directions until you hear a
small Snap as the strap engages
the tamper mechanism. This
loosens the strap by approximately
1/4 in. (0.6 cm). The trimmed end
should not protrude from the slot.
The tamper mechanism is now
activated. Cutting the strap or
pulling the strap away from the
Tag causes a tamper alarm.
Be careful not to make the strap
too tight on the infant’s leg. Ifit is
too tight, remove the strap
immediately and replace with a
new strap.
At this point. the Tag sends a message to
the Pereeptls Control and Display
Computer. The computer enrolls the Tag
into the system and begins monitoring.
The Pemeplls software may require
confirmation or the new Tag. See the
Perceptrs Hugs System manual (p/n
SOSUISOI) for more information.
Tightening a Tag Strap
The Tag strap can be resized and
tightened to accommodate an infant’s
weight loss or a Tag that is too loose.
Depending upon the PerceptIs
suflzware’s configuration, a tamper
alarm may or may not occur when
tightening a strap. Check with your
System Administrator to determine
the procedure at your facility.
1. Tighten the strap by carefully
pushing one end of the strap
through the tag slot to make the
strap snug around the infant‘s leg.
2. Trim the strap flush with the top
or the tag. Use a pair of bandage
scissors. Hold the trimmed end to
prevent it from flying off.
3. To re-activate the tamper
mechanism, hold the Tag and
strap in opposite hands. Give them
a sharp tug in opposite directions
until you hear a small snap as the
strap engages the tamper
mechanism. This loosens the strap
by approximately 1/4 in. (0.5 cm).
The trimmed end should not
protnide from the slot. The tamper
mechanism is now activated.
Be careful not to make the strap
too tight on the infant’s leg. If it is
too tight, remove the strap
immediately and replace with a
new strap.
