Installation Guide 51 IntroductionThe AP-7602 11AC Wireless Wallplate is designed for installation over a structured cable telecom box, or installed flat to a wall surface. The AP-7602 is ideally suited for 802.11 micro-cell networks in hotels, dormitory housing and similar multi-tenant buildings.If new to the Wireless Wallplate’s Access Point technology, refer to the WiNG Access Point System Reference Guide to familiarize yourself with the feature set supported by the WiNG operating system. The guide is available at www.zebra.com/support.This document is written for the qualified network device installer.1.1 Document ConventionsThe following graphical alerts are used in this document to indicate notable situations:1.2 Warnings• Read all installation instructions and site survey reports, and verify correct equipment installation before connecting the Wireless Wallplate.• Remove jewelry and watches before installing this equipment. • Verify any device connected to this unit is properly wired and grounded.• Verify there is adequate ventilation around the device, and that ambient temperatures meet equipment operation specifications.NOTE Tips, hints, or special requirements that you should take note of.CAUTION Care is required. 8AP-7602 Wireless Wallplate2 Hardware Installation2.1 Installation InstructionsThe AP-7602 includes a wall mounting bracket suitable to install the unit to a flush wall surface or to a standard telecommunications junction box.To prepare for the installation:1. Match the part number on the purchase order with the part numbers in the packing list and on the case of the AP-7602.2. Verify the contents of the box include the intended AP-7602, and the included hardware matches the package contents (see AP-7602 Package Contents on page 6).3. Review site survey and network analysis reports to determine the location and mounting position for the AP-7602.4. Connect a CAT-5 or better Ethernet cable to a compatible 802.3at or 802.3af power source and run the cable to the installation site. Installation Guide 92.2 PrecautionsBefore installing an AP-7602, verify the following:• You are using the correctly rated power solution for the AP-7602 (either the power injector or the external power supply)• Do not to install the AP-7602 in wet or dusty areas.• Verify the environment has a continuous temperature range between 32° F to 104° (0-40°C).• This product is intended for indoor use only.2.3 Placing the AP-7602For optimal performance, install the AP-7602 away from transformers, heavy-duty motors, fluorescent lights, microwave ovens, refrigerators and other industrial equipment. Signal loss can occur when metal, concrete, walls or floors block transmission. Install the AP-7602 in an open area or add Wireless Wallplates as needed to improve coverage.Antenna coverage is analogous to lighting. Users might find an area lit from far away to be not bright enough. An area lit sharply might minimize coverage and create dark areas. Uniform antenna placement in an area (like even placement of a light bulb) provides even, efficient coverage.To maximize the radio coverage area, Zebra recommends conducting a site survey to define and document radio interference obstacles before installing the AP-7602.2.4 Power Injector SystemAn AP-7602 can receive power via an Ethernet cable connected to the GE1/POE (LAN) port. The AP-7602 can receive power from either a standard 802.3af PSE connected to GE1, or a 12VDC power supply.When users purchase a WLAN solution, they often need to place units in obscure locations. In the past, a dedicated power source was required for each AP-7602 in addition to the Ethernet infrastructure. This often required an electrical contractor to install power drops at each AP-7602 location. The Power Injector merges power and Ethernet into one cable, AP-PSBIAS-2P3-ATR PWR INJECTOR: SINGLE PORT HI-PWR 802.3AT PWR SPLY:100-240 VAC, 12VDC, 1.0A min, 2.5mm barrel, center positive, maximum operating temperature at least 40°CAC/DC Power Supply
10 AP-7602 Wireless Wallplatereducing the burden of installation and allowing optimal AP-7602 placement in respect to the intended coverage area. The Power Injector is a high power POE Injector delivering up to 30 watts. The AP-7602 can only use a Power Injector when connecting the unit to the AP-7602’s GE1/POE port. The Power Injector is separately ordered and not shipped with an existing AP SKU.The Power Supply is not included with the AP-7602 and is orderable separately as an accessory. Disconnecting AC power from the Wireless Wallplate causes the unit to re-boot before sourcing power from a POE power injector. If the AP is operating using injector supplied power, the AP will not automatically reboot if an AC adapter is connected. The AP-7602 continues to operate with power supplied from the AC adapter without change to the operating configuration. If using AC adapter supplied power and a change to the AP’s operating configuration is warranted, the AP-7602 needs to be manually rebooted by the customer. CAUTION Using a non-compliant injector, or an injector supporting legacy modes will not allow the AP-7602 to function at optimum performance levels.CAUTION The AP-7602 supports any standards-based compliant power source. However, using the wrong solution (including a POE system used on a legacy device) could either limit functionality or severely damage the AP-7602 and void the product warranty.!!
Installation Guide 11A separate Power Injector is required for each AP-7602 comprising the network. The Power Injector can be installed free standing, on an even horizontal surface or wall mounted using the power injector’s wall mounting key holes. The following guidelines should be adhered to before cabling the Power Injector to an Ethernet source and an AP-7602:• Do not block or cover airflow to the Power Injector.• Keep the Power Injector away from excessive heat, humidity, vibration and dust.•The Power Injector isn’t a repeater, and does not amplify the Ethernet signal. For optimal performance, ensure the Power Injector is placed as close as possible to the data port.CAUTION To avoid problematic performance and restarts, disable POE from a wired switch port connected to an AP-7602 if mid-span power sourcing equipment (PSE) is used between the two, regardless of the manufacturer of the switch.!
12 AP-7602 Wireless WallplateTo install the Power Injector to an Ethernet data source and an AP-7602:1. Connect the Power Injector to an AC outlet (100VAC to 240VAC).2. Connect an RJ-45 Ethernet cable between the Power Injector Data & Power Out connector and the AP-7602’s GE1/POE port.3. Connect an RJ-45 Ethernet cable between the network data supply (host) and the Power Injector Data In connector.Ensure the cable length from the Ethernet source (host) to the Power Injector and AP-7602 does not exceed 100 meters (333 ft). The Power Injector has no On/Off power switch. The Injector receives power and is ready for device connection and operation as soon as AC power is applied. Refer to the Installation Guide shipped with the Power Injector for a description of the LEDs.2.5 Mounting InstructionsAn AP-7602 can be mounted to a flat wall surface or over an existing telco junction box. 2.5.1 Wall Mount Procedure To mount an AP-7602 Access Point to a wall surface (no telco box):1. Place the mounting bracket against the wall.2. Mark the screw hole locations.CAUTION Ensure AC power is supplied to the Power Injector using an AC cable with an appropriate ground connection approved for the country of operation.NOTE Before mounting and installing the AP-7602, obtain the unit’s default IP address from the backside of the unit. This default IP address is needed when connecting to the Access Point.NOTE When pre-drilling a hole the recommended hole size is 4mm (0.16in.). !

Cable the AP-7602 using either the Power Injector solution, an approved AP-7602 power supply or a POE enabled switch.For Power Injector installations:a. Connect a RJ-45 CAT5e (or CAT6) Ethernet cable between the Power Injector Data & Power Out connector and the AP-7602’s GE1/POE port.b. Connect a RJ-45 CAT5e (or CAT6) Ethernet cable between the network data supply (host) and the Power Injector Data In connector.c. Ensure the cable length from the Ethernet source (host) to the Power Injector and AP-7602 does not exceed 100 meters (333 ft). The Power Injector has no On/Off power switch. The Power Injector receives power as soon as AC power is applied.For standard power adapter (non Power Injector) and line cord installations:a. Connect a RJ-45 Ethernet cable between the network data supply (host) and the AP-7602’s GE1/POE port.b. Connect the power supply line cords to the power adapter.c. Attach the power adapter cable into the power connector on the AP-7602.d. Attach the power supply line cord to a power supply.5. Once cabled, snap the AP-7602 on the mounting plate
14 AP-7602 Wireless Wallplate6. Verify the AP-7602 is receiving power by observing the LEDs are lit or flashing. For more information on AP-7602 LED behavior, see LED Indicators on page 17.7. The AP-7602 is ready to configure. CAUTION Using an incorrectly rated power supply could damage the AP-7602 and void the product warranty. Do not actually connect to the power source until the cabling portion of the installation is complete.!
Installation Guide 152.5.2 Telco Box InstallationFor telco Box installations, the Wireless Wallplate is installed directly over the standard wall plate supplying Ethernet. All cabled electrical connections are made within a recessed well in the housing of the Access Point. To install the Wireless Wallplate over a telco box:1. Remove the existing screws and the existing wallplate cover.
16 AP-7602 Wireless Wallplate2. Gently push RJ-45 outlets into telco box.3. Reuse the existing screws to screw the mounting plate to the telco box.4. Connect one end of the 10cm RJ-45 cable into GE1.5. Route the GE1 cable back through the routing channel on the underside of the Wireless Wallplate.6. Plug the other end of the 10cm RJ-45 cable into the RJ-45 outlet.7. Snap the Wireless Wallplate to the mounting plate.8. Verify the unit has power by observing the LEDs. For more information on AP-7602 LED behavior, see LED Indicators on page 17.9. The AP-7602 is ready to configure.

Installation Guide 193 Basic ConfigurationOnce the AP-7602 is installed and powered on, complete the following WiNG Assist configuration steps to get the AP-7602 up and running with minimal administrative intervention.Startup Assist updates existing settings. To delete or revise existing Startup Assist settings, either rerun Startup Assist or navigate to where those parameters appear in the user interface and update them accordingly. Refer to the more advanced configuration documentation available on the Zebra support site for updating the management interface beyond the scope of the WiNG Assist configuration described in this guide. For more information, see www.zebra.com/support.1. Power the AP-7602 using an appropriate power adapter, PoE injector, or PoE switch.2. Connect to the AP-7602. The default IP address is located on the backside of the AP-7602.3. Enter the default username admin in the Username field.4. Enter the default password admin123 in the Password field.5. Select the Login button to load the management interface. If logging in using a factory default configuration, Startup Assist automatically displays.
20 AP-7602 Wireless WallplateIf Startup Assist does not automatically display, it can be invoked at any time from the upper-left of the Basic Configuration screen. 6. Set the following Startup Assist parameters:•Virtual Controller - Select this option to set this AP-7602 as a Virtual Controller capable of managing and provisioning up to 64 AP-7602 models. Those AP-7602 NOTE Startup Assist automatically sets the radio transmit power and enables Auto Channel selection. The AP-7602's name is automatically assigned based on the device type and the last three octets of the device's hardcoded MAC address. WLAN 1 and WLAN 2 both use VLAN ID 2200 by default. To adjust any of these parameters, edit the appropriate configuration screen directly. Refer to the reference material available on Zebra Support for configuring the AP-7602 beyond the scope of the minimal WiNG Assist configuration described in this guide. Installation Guide 21Wireless Wallplates managed by this Virtual Controller list this AP-7602's Name as its own. Only one Virtual Controller can be designated.•Country Name - Set the country specific to this AP-7602's deployment location. Selecting the correct country is central to legal operation. Each country has its own regulatory restrictions concerning electromagnetic emissions and the maximum RF signal strength that can be transmitted.•Timezone - Use the drop-down menu to specify the geographic timezone where the AP-7602 is deployed. Different geographic time zones have daylight savings clock adjustments, so specifying the timezone correctly is important to account for geographic time changes.•Date & Time -Set the date, hour and minute for the AP-7602's current system time. Specify whether the current time is in the AM or PM.•WLAN 1 Name - Provide a unique name for this WLAN as its network identifier. This is a required setting. The name is used for the SSID and is assigned to both of the AP-7602's radios.•Authentication - Select PSK to apply a 64 character maximum passphrase. Provide the passphrase in either ASCII or Hex format.The authenticating device must use the same PSK algorithm during authentication. Selecting Show displays the key in exposed plain text (not recommended).Selecting Open is not a recommended authentication scheme, as it would provide the AP-7602's WLAN no security via credential exchange and would only make sense in a network where no sensitive data is either transmitted or received.7. Select Apply to save and commit the Startup Assist changes to the AP-7602's configuration. Select Discard to revert to the last saved configuration.The Virtual Controller, Country Name, Timezone and Date & Time portions of the Basic Settings screen update with the settings applied and saved in the Startup Assist screen. WLAN updates made in Startup Assist are displayed in Wireless screen, not the Basic Configuration screen.NOTE Country Name can not be changed when deployed in the United States or Canada.

If being provided to the Department of Defense, use, duplication, or disclosure of the Products is subject to the restricted rights set forth in subparagraph (c) (1) (ii) of the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at DFARS 252.227-7013 (OCT 1988), if applicable. Products may or may not include a Restricted Rights notice, or other notice referring specifically to the terms and conditions of this Agreement. The terms and conditions of this Agreement shall each continue to apply, but only to the extent that such terms and conditions are not inconsistent with the rights provided to you under the aforementioned provisions of the FAR and DFARS, as applicable to the particular procuring agency and procurement transaction.
40 AP-7602 Wireless WallplateAssignmentExcept as otherwise provided in this section, neither party may assign this Agreement, or any of its rights or obligations under this Agreement, without the prior written approval of the other party, which will not be unreasonably withheld. Any attempted assignment, delegation, or transfer without the necessary approval will be void. Notwithstanding the foregoing, for any Zebra acquisition, merger, consolidation, reorganization, or similar transaction, or any spin-off, divestiture, or other separation of a Zebra business, Zebra may, without the prior written consent of the other party: (i) assign its rights and obligations under this Agreement, in whole or in part, or (ii) split and assign its rights and obligations under this Agreement so as to retain the benefits of this Agreement for both Zebra and the assignee entity(ies) (and their respective Affiliates) following the split. Governing LawThis Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the United States of America to the extent that they apply and otherwise by the laws of the State of New York without regard to its conflict of laws provisions or by the internal substantive laws of the country to which the Products is shipped if end-user customer is a sovereign governmental entity. The terms of the U.N. Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods do not apply. In the event that the Uniform Computer information Transaction Act, any version of this Act, or a substantially similar law (collectively "UCITA") becomes applicable to a Party's performance under this Agreement, UCITA does not govern any aspect of this End User License Agreement or any license granted under this End-User License Agreement, or any of the parties' rights or obligations under this End User License Agreement. The governing law will be that in effect prior to the applicability of UCITA.Compliance with Laws Licensee will comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including export laws and regulations of the United States. Licensee will not, without the prior authorization of Zebra and the appropriate governmental authority of the United States, in any form export or re-export, sell or resell, ship or reship, or divert, through direct or indirect means, any item or technical data or direct or indirect products sold or otherwise furnished to any person within any territory for which the United States Government or any of its agencies at the time of the action, requires an export license or other governmental approval. Violation of this provision will be a material breach of this Agreement, permitting immediate termination by Zebra.
Installation Guide 41Third Party Software The Products may contain one or more items of Third-Party Software. The terms of this Agreement govern your use of any Third-Party Software UNLESS A SEPARATE THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE LICENSE IS INCLUDED, IN WHICH CASE YOUR USE OF THE THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE WILL THEN BE GOVERNED BY THE SEPARATE THIRD-PARTY LICENSE.Open Source SoftwareThe Products may contain one or more items of Open Source Software. Open Source Software is software covered by a publicly available license governed solely under Copyright law, whereas the complete terms and obligations of such license attach to a licensee solely through the act of copying, using and/or distribution of the licensed software, such obligations often include one or more of attribution obligations, distribution obligations, copyright obligations, and intellectual property encumbrances. The use of any Open Source Software is subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement as well as the terms and conditions of the corresponding license of each Open Source Software package. If there is a conflict between the terms and conditions of this Agreement and the terms and conditions of the Open Source Software license, the applicable Open Source Software license will take precedence. Copies of the licenses for the included Open Source Software, if any, as well as their attributions, acknowledgements, and software information details, are provided in the electronic copy of this Agreement, which is available in the Legal Notices or README file associated with the Product. Zebra is required to reproduce the software licenses, acknowledgments and copyright notices as provided by the authors and owners, thus, all such information is provided in its native language form, without modification or translation. Depending on the license terms of the specific Open Source Software, source code may not be provided. Please reference and review the entire Open Source Software information to identify which Open Source Software packages have source code provided or available.
