2TABLE OF CONTENTSPRS OVERVIEWYour PRS RF Clicker is part of the InterWrite PRSstudent response system. You use this RF Clicker inyour classes to respond electronically to questions.In the typical classroom scenario, you login to, orjoin, a Class and send Responses.During the join process, your Student ID, yourunique identifier, is transmitted to the PRS softwarevia the RF Receiver. Each time you send aResponse to a Question, your Student ID isattached to your Response, ensuring each answeryou send is attributed to you. Your Responses arerecorded electronically, and can be scored andstored in an electronic Gradebook.Joining a ClassMost of the time you will be using your PRS Clickerto respond to Questions in the classroom. When youturn on your Clicker, it automatically begins scanningfor PRS Classes. Each Receiver is broadcasting forits specific Class. When the Autoscan is completed,press   or   to scroll the list of Classes. When youhave found your Class, press   to join it.Quick JumpThe Quick Jump feature allows you to bypass theAutoscan process, which in a large PRS facility cantake a long time. The instructor will display theQuick Jump Number on the board, along with thename of the Class you are to join.Press the Quick Jump Number, press   or to scroll to your Class, and press   to join it.First Time Users:  You must enter yourStudent ID before you can use your PRSClicker to transmit Responses.1Press   to stop Autoscan.2Press   to display the Setup Menu.3Scroll   or   to display the ID: menuoption and press   to select this option.4Input your Student ID. Press   tobackspace. Scroll or  , if necessary, to your Class and press   to join,OR2b When Autoscanning has completed, scroll   or  , if necessary, to yourClass and press   to join.You are now ready to participate in a PRS Session.3Use the   key to clear the ANS: field and prepare for the next Question.
3QUESTION TYPESThe Questions you will be asked during a typicalPRS Session will be projected at the front of theclassroom. Your instructor can choose fromamong five types of Questions— MultipleChoice, True/False, Numeric, Series, and ShortAnswer.•Multiple Choice Questions displays a list ofnumbered or lettered Response options.You will choose one or more of theseoptions, as instructed.•True/False Questions use only the   and keys for your Responses.•Numeric Questions expect numericResponses of up to 11 numeric charactersthat can include the Decimal Point   and theMinus Sign  .• Series Questions require you to put the ResponseChoices in some sort of order.•Short Answer Questions allow a Response of up to11 alphanumeric characters. If the Short Answer isa fraction or a date, press the Decimal Point twice to display the slash (/).Responding to Questions:The process for responding to a Question is the same,regardless of the Question Type:• Press the key(s) that represent your Response,press   to send it, watch for the Receivedmessage, then press the   key to clear the fieldand prepare for the next Question.SELF PACED MODEYour instructor has the option of presenting aPRS Lesson in one of two ways during a PRSSession. The most commonly used methodinvolves projecting each Question in the Lessonfor a specific length of time, during which eachstudent transmits a Response and receives areceipt confirmation message. After a Questionhas been answered, a chart showing thedistribution of Responses and, if the instructorchooses, the correct Response. The next timedQuestion is then displayed.Self Paced Mode represents a different way ofpresenting a PRS Lesson. The Session itself istimed and students can respond to theQuestions at their own pace and in any orderthey want within the time frame of the SelfResponding to Questions1When the TST: field appears, enter the Test Number,if indicated. Press  .2Use the scroll    keys to navigate from oneResponse field to another.3Enter your Response and press   to send it.Paced Session. The instructor has the option ofdistributing hard copies of all the Questions in theLesson, or projecting all them at the front of the room.When you join a Class running a Self Paced Session,the first thing you will be prompted to do is enter a TestNumber. Then you can begin answering the Questions.You can scroll through the Response fields and answerthe Questions in any order you choose. The second lineon your LCD screen will display messages regarding thestatus of the current Response field.SETUP MENUSetup Menu options include:• New Class Scan•ID• Sleep Mode• AutoOff Mode• Diagnostics• Language• Homework ModePress the   key to display the Setup Menu.Note the navigation cues       on the SetupMenu. You can find a description of eachsymbol in the Clicker Key Quick Reference onthe first panel.New Class ScanSelect this Setup Menu option when you want to scanfor a new Class and join it.1Press   to begin Autoscan for a new Class.2Press the Quick Jump number, or wait untilAutoscan has finished. Scroll    to the Class youwant to join and press  .You are now ready to participate in a PRS Session.Enter Student ID1Press the   key to display the Setup Menu.2Scroll    to ID: and press  .3Enter your Student ID. Use the Numeric Keypad toenter numbers and the Letter Keys to enter alphacharactersas described on panel 2.4Press   to save your Student ID and return to themain Setup Menu.Sleep ModeBoth Sleep Mode and AutoOff Mode aredesigned to extend battery life. Sleep Modedescribes the amount of time, measured inminutes, your Clicker must be inactive (no keyspressed) before it goes to sleep to conservebattery power. Press any key to wake up yourClicker and return it to full power.1Press the   key to cycle through the SleepMode options.2When your choice for the Sleep Modesetting is displayed, press the   or   keyto view the next Setup Menu option.AutoOff ModeAutoOff describes the length of time, measured inminutes, your Clicker will remain powered on. When thetime you have selected elapses, your Clicker willautomatically power down to conserve battery life.1Press the   key to cycle through the AutoOff Modeoptions.2Press the   or   key to view the next Setup Menuoption.To cycle your Clicker to full power, press  , or togglethe Power Switch off and on.HINT:  Set the AutoOff time to a value greater than yourlongest class, so your Clicker won’t power down beforethe class is over.
4Homework Mode – NewYou will receive a handout for the homework assignment, which will include aHomework Number.1Press   to display the Setup Menu, scroll    to Homework, press  ,scroll to New, and press  .2Enter the Homework Number, if indicated, in the HMW: field. Press  .3Press   to display the H01: field where you will enter your Response toHomework Question 1. Press   to save your Response.4Press   to view the next Response field. You do not have to answer theQuestions in order. Scroll    through the Questions. Press   to saveeach Response.5When you have finished answering the homework questions, or you want totake a break, turn off your Clicker.LanguageThis Setup Menu option refers to the language usedfor the LCD display. At the present time, the LCDdisplay is English only.DiagnosticsIt’s likely that the only diagnostic value that will be ofinterest to you is the percent of Battery Liferemaining. Other diagnostic values displayedinclude Radio ID, Firmware version, Data Channel,Class Channel, Join ID, Clicker Type, and ClassNumber.1Press the    keys to scroll through theDiagnostic options.2Press the   or   key to return to the mainSetup Menu.Homework Mode – Continue1When you are ready to continue the Homework Session, scroll    theSetup Menu to Homework, press  ,and scroll    to the Continue option. Press   to continue the homeworkassignment.As you scroll    through the Questions, you will see the Responses youentered during the previous Homework Session. You can change any of theseResponses.2Change existing Responses and enter new Responses. Press   each timeto save each Response.3When you are finished, turn off your Clicker.Homework ModeHomework Mode is a type of Answer Mode. Normally, you will be in the classroomsending Responses one at a time. Homework Mode allows you to use your Clickeroff site to respond to Questions and save your Responses in the Clicker’s memory.When you are back in the classroom, you will send your saved Responses whenasked to do so. The PRS software provides the functionality necessary to scoreand store your Responses in an electronic Gradebook.Homework Mode features four different options:• New• Continue• End• Send
5Homework Mode – EndEnd stops a Homework Session and endsHomework Mode.1Press   to return to the Homework Menu.2Scroll    to the End option. Press   to display the Setup Menu.2Press   to display the Homework Menu options.3Press   to send your Responses.You will receive a confirmation message indicating the number of Responses receivedout of the number sent (Received XX/XX). You are returned to Answer Mode.If you are re-sending a homework assignment, only new Responses and theResponses you changed will be sent.
