ROVE Simple User Manual Your device allows you to easily connect to the Internet and to share your 1X/3G connection with others. This user guide describes how to set up your device and use the browser interface to: ●View the status of your device. ●View and change the settings of your device and the browser interface. It also describes your device (its various connectors and buttons). Your Device The device provides a simple way to use your 1X/3G Internet connection with any Wi‐Fi‐enabled device, and to share your Internet connection with friends and family. It can support up to 5 simultaneous Wi‐Fi connections from portable devices. Package Contents Your package includes: ● D5 1X/3G Mobile Hotspot ● AC charger with USB port ● USB to Micro B cable ● Get Started guide Care and Maintenance As with any electronic device, you should handle this device with care to ensure reliable operation. Do not handle or operate the device while driving or operating a vehicle. Doing so may distract you from properly operating the vehicle. In some jurisdictions, operating communication devices while in control of a vehicle is a criminal offense. Do not apply adhesive labels to the device. They may cause the device to overheat and may alter the antenna’s performance. System Requirements One or more computers that support Wi‐Fi (802.11b/g) Web browser (required if you’ll be using the browser interface to view status and to configure settings). Your Device Connecting Through USB Use the USB to Micro B cable to connect the device to your computer only when: You want to charge the device, but you don’t want to use the AC charger, or the AC charger is not available. To connect the device to your computer: 1. Insert the larger (USB) end of the USB to Micro B cable into the computer. 2. Insert the other (Micro B) end of the USB to Micro B cable into the USB connector on the side of the device. Charging the Device You need to recharge your device’s battery periodically. You can continue using your device while it is charging. To charge the battery, you have two options, as shown in the drawing below. You can connect the device to an AC charger (faster way to charge). (See “Using the AC Charger with USB Port” ) Alternatively, you can connect the device to a computer (slower way to charge). (See “Charging Through a Computer” ) Using the AC Charger with USB Port 1. Insert the smaller (Micro B) end of the USB to Micro B cable into the USB connector on the side of the device. 2. Insert the other end of the USB to Micro B cable into the AC charger. 3. Insert the AC charger into an electrical outlet. When charging, the LED shows and, it will be flashing until fully charged. Charging Through a Computer 1. Ensure the computer is turned on. 2. Insert the larger (USB) end of the USB to Micro B cable into the computer. 3. Insert the other (Micro B) end of the USB to Micro B cable into the USB connector on the side of the device. When charging, the LED shows Power Button Turning Your Device On and Off Turning Your Device On 1. Ensure that: and, it will be flashing until fully charged. _The device has a charged battery inserted. _The device is connected to the AC charger or a computer (through the USB to Micro B cable). 2. If the device LED is blank, press and hold the power button for five seconds. Press and hold for 5 sec. Turning Your Device Off _Press and hold the power button for three seconds. Using the Power Button to Determine the Device State The power button on the device also indicates the device’s status, as following description. 1. System initiation: both battery and signal strength lamps turn on to green. 2. Battery State: keep battery lamp on with current status and turn off the signal strength lamp. 3. Signal Strength State: keep battery lamp as the current status. Turn on Signal Strength Lamp, from red as a temporary state to the current status. If the user is roaming, the roaming lamp will be on. 4. Wi‐Fi State: keep both battery and signal strength lamps showing the current status. Turn on AP to light up the Wi‐Fi lamp. 5. Internet Access State: the Internet access lamp will be on if the modem is set to auto connection mode. Otherwise, the lamp will be flashing. 6. System shutdown: both battery and signal strength lamps become red then all the lamps are off. 7. Power‐off State: all the lamps are off even if you press any button (if you press the power button and hold it for 3 seconds, the device will be turned on). All the lamps will be turned off for power saving purpose after 1 minute idle time. Pressing any button will wake up the lamps to show the current status. LED If the LED is not lit, see “Turning Your Device On”. Interpreting the LED The LED shows icons that reflect the status of the device and your connection. Meaning of the Lamps 1. Internet Access Lamp On: Internet access is available through cellular network. Flashing: not yet connected to the Internet. 2. Wi‐Fi Lamp On: Wi‐Fi is turned on. Off: Wi‐Fi is turned off. 3. Signal Strength Lamp Green: signal strength is strong. Orange: signal strength is weak. Red: no signal, or no UIM card, or network obstacle. 4. Battery Lamp Green: battery is full (100‐50%) Orange: battery is low (50‐20%) Red: need to be charged (20‐0%) Flashing with green: being charged 5. Roaming Lamp On: in roaming area. Off: local service. Wi‐Fi Setup Set Up a Wi‐Fi Connection Your device is pre‐configured for U.S.Cellular right out of the box and you can connect to the default network name (SSID) found on the sticker on the bottom of the device. Connect to your device: Press and hold the power button for five seconds. Your device powers on and starts up. When the the Wi‐Fi LED solid, the device is ready for you to connect another device (such as your computer) to it. Use the normal Wi‐Fi manager on your computer to locate the device network name (SSID) and select it. The network name (SSID) is printed on the label on the bottom of the device. Windows only: The steps to connect to a Wi‐Fi network vary depending on your operating system version and whether you use the native application or third‐party software. ‐ Find the SSID of the modem from the AP list on the right side and tap it. ‐ Enter the security key (default or user modified) in the key input window. Tap “join” from the soft keyboard when finishing the key input. The network key (Wi‐Fi Key) is case‐sensitive. Be sure to type it in exactly as it is printed. Connecting to the Network 1. Ensure you are in the U.S.Cellular 1X or 3G coverage area (not roaming). 2. If you have a LAN connection, disconnect it. 3. Ensure your computer’s Wi‐Fi is turned on. Connect a PC to your device through Wi‐Fi. 5. Launch a web browser (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, etc.) at the PC. 4. ‐ Enter http://192.168.1.1 and return. ‐ You will see a user registration page. ‐ Input user name (default: admin) and password (default: admin) to log into the management pages. ‐ Edit the pages to customize to meet your requirements. 6. Confirm the Internet Access ‐ In the traffic dependent mode (default), your device will connect to the operator’s 3G network if it detects the data traffic from a Wi‐Fi client (e.g., a portable device). ‐ Press any button to wake up the lamps to show the current status. Your device is connected to the Internet if the Internet Access Lamp is on. Otherwise, it shows your device is disconnected. How to Re‐set Password Initial Wi‐Fi and Admin passwords are provisioned at production and provided in package User can configure own Wi‐Fi password, admin password through web configuration (instructions see follow‐on slides) Password can be reset to factory default by PRESSING WIFI Key + 3G Key simultaneously for 5 seconds. All the settings including SSID, security setting, administrator user name/password, etc. will be reset to the factory defaults. Web Configuration 1. Open your browser, go to http://192.168.1.1, and then click Login. 2. Activation process when 1st time log in 3. Activation process when 1st time log in: if data plan successful activated 4. Activation process when 1st time log in: if data plan activation failed Reboot Button Restarting the Device The reset button is inside the hole located below and to the right of the USB connector as shown below. FCC Notice to User The SAR limit of USA (FCC) is 1.6 W/kg averaged over one gram of tissue. Device types D5 (FCC ID: U46‐D5) has also been tested against this SAR limit. The highest SAR value reported under this standard during product certification for properly worn on the body is 1.028 W/kg. This device was tested for typical body‐ worn operations with the back of the WIFI hotspot device kept 1.0cm from the body. To maintain compliance with FCC RF exposure requirements, use accessories that maintain a 1.5cm separation distance between the user's body and the back of the WIFI hotspot device. The use of belt clips, holsters and similar accessories should not contain metallic components in its assembly. The use of accessories that do not satisfy these requirements may not comply with FCC RF exposure requirements, and should be avoided. This device complies with part 15 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. NOTE: The manufacturer is not responsible for any radio or TV interference caused by unauthorized modifications to this equipment. Such modifications could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment. NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: ‐ Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. ‐ Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver. ‐Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected. ‐Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help
