ASUS Tablet Safety information English Your ASUS Tablet is designed and tested to meet the latest standards of safety for information technology equipment. However, to ensure your safety, it is important that you read the following safety instructions. Setting up your system • • • • • • Read and follow all instructions in the documentation before you operate your system. Do not use this product near water or a heated source such as a radiator. Set up the system on a stable surface. Openings on the chassis are for ventilation. Do not block or cover these openings. Ensure that you leave plenty of space around the system for ventilation. Never insert objects of any kind into the ventilation openings. Use this product in environments with ambient temperatures between 0˚C and 40˚C. If you use an extension cord, ensure that the total ampere rating of the devices plugged into the extension cord does not exceed its ampere rating. Care during use • • • • • Do not walk on the power cord or allow anything to rest on it. Do not spill water or any other liquids on your system. When the system is turned off, a small amount of electrical current still flows. Always unplug all power, modem, and network cables from the power outlets before cleaning the system. The touch screen requires periodic cleaning to achieve the best touch sensitivity. Keep the screen clean from foreign objects or excessive dust accumulation. To clean the screen: • Turn off the system and disconnect the power cord from the wall. • Spray a small amount of a household glass cleaner onto the supplied cleaning cloth and gently wipe the screen surface. • Do not spray the cleaner directly on the screen. • Do not use an abrasive cleaner or a coarse cloth when cleaning the screen. If you encounter the following technical problems with the product, unplug the power cord and contact a qualified service technician or your retailer. • The power cord or plug is damaged. • Liquid has been spilled into the system. • The system does not function properly even if you follow the operating instructions. ASUS Tablet The system was dropped or the cabinet is damaged. The system performance changes. English • • Sound Pressure Warning Excessive sound pressure from earphones or headphones can cause hearing damage or loss. Adjustment of the volume control as well as the equalizer to settings other than the center position may increase the earphones or headphones output voltage and the sound pressure level. ASUS Tablet English Chapter 1: Hardware Setup Getting to know your ASUS Tablet Front view Webcam The built-in webcam allows you to start video chats online. ASUS Tablet Side views English Kensington® lock port The Kensington® lock port allows you to secure your ASUS Tablet using Kensington® compatible security products. Power button Press this button to turn on your ASUS Tablet. Volume control Press to turn the volume up/down. Mode button Press this button to switch your operating system from Windows® 8 to Android™. Mini USB port This mini Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 port allows you to connect compatible USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 devices to your ASUS Tablet using a mini USB cable. MicroSD card reader Your ASUS Tablet comes with an additional built-in memory card reader that supports microSD and microSDHC card formats. 10 ASUS Tablet English Microphone The built-in microphone can be used for video conferencing, voice narrations, or simple audio recording. Headphone output/microphone input combo port This port allows you to connect your ASUS Tablet to amplified speakers or headphones. You can also use this port to connect your ASUS Tablet to an external microphone. Power input The supplied power adapter converts AC power to DC power for use with this jack. Power supplied through this jack supplies power to the PC. To prevent damage to the PC, always use the supplied power adapter. WARNING! The power adapter may get warm or hot when in use. Do not cover the adapter and keep it away from your body. Bottom view Connecting holes Align and insert the guiding poles into these holes to securely attach the tablet to the PC Station. ASUS Tablet 11 Rear view English Audio speakers Your ASUS Tablet is equipped with built-in high quality speakers. Tablet stand Pull out and adjust the stand to provide stable support for your tablet when it is placed on a table or desk. Tablet handle Carry the tablet easily using the ergonomic tablet handle. NOTE: The magnet at the back of your ASUS Tablet may de-magnetize nearby objects. 12 ASUS Tablet English Chapter 2: Using your ASUS Tablet Placing your ASUS Tablet on the table or desk To place your ASUS Tablet on the table or desk: 1. Pull and adjust the tablet stand. 2. Place your ASUS Tablet on a flat surface such as a table or desk. ASUS Tablet 13 Charging your ASUS Tablet English 110 V-2 0V Connect the power adapter to your ASUS Tablet’s DC-in port and plug to the correct socket outlet with the correct input rating. The output voltage of the adapter is 100Vac~240Vac. Using Gestures The gestures allow you to launch programs and access the settings of your ASUS Tablet. The functions can be activated by using the hand gestures to your ASUS Tablet’s display panel. 14 Zoom out Zoom in Bring together your two fingers on the touch panel. Spread apart your two fingers on the touch panel. ASUS Tablet Tap/Double tap • • Tap an app to launch it. English Tap and hold To move an app, tap and hold the app tile and drag it to a new location. Flip • Use your finger back and forth between home screens, through different images in the Gallery, or pages in MyLibrary and SuperNote. ASUS Tablet 15 Chapter 3: Working with Android® English Basics Unlocking your device Touch and drag the lock icon to the unlocked icon. Touch to customize weather widget settings, location, and frequency updates. Touch to configure the email account for the first time, and touch to read e-mails in the e-mail inbox folder. NOTE: The Home Screen may update and change with Android OS. ASUS Tablet 17 Screen Views English The screen view rotates automatically when you hold the tablet horizontally to vertically, and vice versa. Landscape view 18 Portrait view ASUS Tablet Connecting to the world English Connecting to Wi-Fi networks Wi-Fi wireless networking technology allows you to exchange data wirelessly over a network. To use Wi-Fi, enable the Wi-Fi feature in your ASUS Tablet and connect to a wireless network. Some wireless networks are secured with a key or protected with digital certificates and requires additional steps to set up; others are open and you can easily connect to them. NOTE: Turn OFF Wi-Fi when you’re not using it to help save battery power. To enable Wi-Fi and connect to a Wi-Fi network: 1. Touch 2. Slide the Wi-Fi switch to ON. When enabled, your ASUS Tablet scans for available Wi-Fi networks. 3. Touch a network name to connect to it. If the network is secured or protected, you are prompted to key in a Password or key in other credentials. to go to the All apps screen then touch Settings IMPORTANT! If your ASUS Tablet finds a network that you have connected to previously, it automatically connects to it. ASUS Tablet 19 Using Bluetooth English Enabling or disabling Bluetooth in your device Bluetooth is a wireless standard used for exchanging data over short distances. Bluetooth exists in many products, such as smartphones, computers, tablet devices, and headsets. Bluetooth is very useful when transferring data between two or more devices that are near each other. The first time you connect to a Bluetooth device, you must pair it with your ASUS Tablet. TIP: Turn OFF Bluetooth in your ASUS Tablet when you’re not using it to help save battery power. To enable or disable Bluetooth in your ASUS Tablet, touch . Slide the Bluetooth switch to ON. touch Settings to go to the All apps screen then Pairing your ASUS Tablet with a Bluetooth device Before you can connect to a device, you must first pair your ASUS Tablet to that device. Once paired, the devices stay paired unless you unpair them. To pair your ASUS Tablet to a device: 20 1. Touch to go to the All apps screen then touch Settings switch to ON. 2. Touch Bluetooth to display all available Bluetooth devices within range. If the device you want to pair with is not in the list, ensure that its Bluetooth feature is turned ON and set as Discoverable. See the technical documentation that came with the device to learn how to turn its Bluetooth ON and how to set it to discoverable. . Slide the Bluetooth ASUS Tablet If your ASUS Tablet has finished scanning before your Bluetooth device is ready, touch Search for devices. 4. In the list of available devices, touch the Bluetooth device you want to pair with. Follow the succeeding screen instructions to complete the pairing. If necessary, refer to the technical documentation that came with the device. English 3. Connecting your ASUS Tablet to a Bluetooth device After you have paired your ASUS Tablet to a Bluetooth device, you can easily reconnect to it again manually, after it is back in range. To connect: 1. Touch to go to the All apps screen then touch Settings switch to ON. 2. In the list of PAIRED DEVICES, touch the name of the paired device. . Slide the Bluetooth Unpairing and configuring a Bluetooth device To unpair or configure a Bluetooth device: 1. to go to the All apps screen then touch Settings Touch switch to ON. 2. Touch Bluetooth to display the Bluetooth settings. 3. Touch the Bluetooth Quick Settings icon beside the connected Bluetooth device you want to unpair or configure. 4. From the Bluetooth Quick Settings screen, you can do any of the following: • Touch Unpair to unpair the device. • Touch Rename to rename the Bluetooth device. • 5. Touch any of the listed profiles to enable or disable profile. Touch ASUS Tablet . Slide the Bluetooth when you’re finished. 21 Using apps and widgets English Managing Apps App shortcut You can create shortcuts for your favorite apps on your ASUS Tablet Home Screen. to go to the All apps screen. 1. Touch 2. From the All apps screen, touch and hold the icon of the app you wish to move then drag and place the app on the Home Screen. App info You can view the detailed app information while you are creating a shortcut for the app. While holding an app from the All apps screen to the Home Screen, the App info will appear on the top of the Home Screen page. Drag the app to App info to display its detailed information. Removing App from Home Screen You can remove app shortcuts from your ASUS Tablet Home Screen. The original app will remain in your All apps screen. To remove an app in your Home Screen: 22 1. Touch and hold an app on your Home Screen until X Remove appears. 2. Drag the app to X Remove to remove it from the Home Screen. ASUS Tablet English App Folder Create folders to organize your applications and shortcuts on your ASUS Tablet Home Screen. 1. On your ASUS Tablet’s Home Screen, touch and drag an app or shortcut onto another app and a folder will appear. 2. Touch the new folder and tap Unnamed Folder to rename the folder. ASUS Tablet 23 Recent Apps English Recent apps are displayed on the left panel of the Home Screen. You can find detailed information and manage your apps from the Recent Apps list. 24 1. Touch the Recent Apps icon at the lower left corner of the Home Screen. 2. Swipe up or down the list to view Recent Apps. Swipe a recent app to the left or right to remove from the list. 3. Touch and hold a recent app to display the menu. Select to remove app from list or display app information. ASUS Tablet Task Manager to go to the All apps screen. 1. Touch 2. Touch WIDGETS to display the widgets menu. 3. Touch and hold ASUS Task Manager to display the ASUS Task Manager box on the Home Screen. 4. Touch and hold the widget to display the sizing brackets. Pull the sizing bracket upward or downward to show the complete list of tasks. 5. beside each running app to close the app. Touch One-click Clean to close Tap running apps all at once. ASUS Tablet English ASUS widget displays a list of currently running utilities and applications and their usages in percentages on your ASUS Tablet. 25 File Manager English File Manager allows you to easily locate and manage your data either on the internal storage device or the connected external storage devices. To access the internal storage device: 26 to go to the All apps screen. 1. Touch 2. Touch File Manager then go to My Storage. 3. The Internal Storage (/sdcard/) and any connected external storage devices (/Removable/) are displayed on the left panel. Touch the source icon on the left panel to display the content list, and touch to select an item. ASUS Tablet Touch the Return folder icon to return to the root directory of My Storage. English 4. If you don’t have a Google account, please create one. To access the Play Store: 1. From the Home screen, tap Play Store 3. You need a Google account to access Google Play. If you don’t have an existing account, tap New. 4. Type your Email and Password to Sign in if you already have an account. ASUS Tablet 29 5. English After signing in, you can start downloading and adding apps to your device from the Play Store. IMPORTANT! Download the latest Adobe Flash Player version 11.1.112.60 for Jelly Bean devices. NOTES: 30 • You cannot restore the deleted applications, but you can login with the same ID and download them again. • Some applications are free and some might charge you through a credit ca ASUS Tablet Settings English Settings screen allows you to configure the settings of your ASUS Tablet, including Wireless & networks, Device, Personal, and System settings. Touch the tabs on the left to switch screens and do the configurations. There are two ways to go to the Settings screen. From the All apps screen: Touch Settings to display the settings menu. ASUS Tablet 31 From ASUS Quick Setting: English Touch the notification area on the bottom right corner to launch the ASUS Quick Settings panel. Performance mode Power Saving GPS Silent mode Wi-Fi Auto-rotate screen Bluetooth Balanced mode Auto-Sync Icon and baseline light up when enabled IMPORTANT! • Balanced mode [Default mode]: Balances the system’s performance and power usage. • Performance mode: Maximizes the system’s performance but consumes more battery power. • Power saving mode: Energy saving mode Notification Panels Notification panels will appear under the Quick Setting panel for alerts or updates in apps, incoming emails, and utillity status. IMPORTANT! Swipe a notification to the right or to the left to remove item from the list. ASUS Tablet 33 Music English Touch Play Music on the Home Screen to play your music files. This application automatically collects and displays all the audio files stored in your ASUS Tablet and connected external storage devices. You can shuffle and play all audio files randomly or flip to select an album for your listening pleasure. Use the buttons on the top to conveniently sort or search your audio files. Sort the audio files by Recent, Albums, Artists, Songs, Playlists, and Genres Settings for Music Search for a music file NOTE: The audio and video codec supported by your ASUS Tablet: Decoder Audio Codec: AAC LC/LTP, HE-AACv1(AAC+), HE-AACv2(enhanced AAC+), AMR-NB, AMR-WB, MP3, FLAC, MIDI, PCM/WAVE, Vorbis, WAV a-law/mu-law, WAV linear PCM, WMA 10, WMA Lossless, WMA Pro LBR Video Codec: H.263, H.264, MPEG-4, VC-1/WMV, VP8 Encoder Audio Codec: AAC LC/LTP, AMR-NB, AMR-WB Video Codec: H.263, H.264, MPEG-4 34 ASUS Tablet Gallery English Touch Gallery on the Home Screen to browse for images or video files. This app automatically collects and displays all the images and video files stored in your ASUS Tablet. From the Gallery, you can display images in a slideshow or touch to select for image or video files. You can also use the menu buttons on the upper right corner of the Gallery screen to sort the files by album, by location, by time, by people, or by tags. Using the Tool bar options, you can upload, delete, or share selected albums online. Touch Widgets to display the widgets menu. 3. Touch and hold Photo Gallery until the gallery widget box moves to the Home Screen and displays the Choose images menu box. 4. Choose the album or image that you wish to place as a widget on the Home Screen. You can use the front camera or the back camera to take pictures or record videos. The image and video files are saved to Gallery. To set up an email account: 1. Touch 2. Touch Email 3. From the email app screen,key in your Email address and Password, then touch Next. 4. Wait while your ASUS Tablet automatically checks your incoming and outgoing mail server settings. 5. Configure the Account options and touch Next. ASUS Tablet to go to the All apps screen. to launch the email app. 41 6. English Provide a name for the account and key in the name you want displayed on the outgoing messages. Touch Next to log into your mail inbox. To add email accounts: 1. Touch to go to the All apps screen, touch Email and login using the account that you’ve previously set up. 2. Touch then Settings. Touch Add account on the upper right corner to add new email accounts. NOTE: You can include all your e-mail accounts in Email. 42 ASUS Tablet English Gmail Gmail (Google mail) allows you to access your Gmail account, receive, and compose e-mails.
