Locatethe rope guide foundon the rightside of the upperhandle.
Loosen,but do NOTremove,the wing knobwhichsecuresthe
ropeguide to the upperhandle.See Figure2.

Removeand discard anypackagingcardboardthat maybe present
betweenthe upper handleand the lowerhandle.

SET-UP

Bevel Adjustment

Gas & Oil Fill=Up

Theangle of the edgerblade canbe adjustedby placingthe bevel
adjustmentin one of three positionsfor edging.See Figure3.

Use extremecautionwhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremely
flammableand thevaporsare explosive.Neverfuel the machine
indoorsor whilethe engineis hotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipesand othersourcesof ignition.

How To Check/Add

Beforeaddingor checkingthe oil

Removethe dipstickand checkthe oil level. It shouldbe at the
FULLmark (B) on the dipstick.

FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS

HOW TO ADD FUEL

Fuelmustmeet these requirements:

willcause decreasedperformance,increasedfuel consumption,and

high altitudeadjustmentinformation.

Turnengineoff and letengine coolat least 2 minutesbefore
removingthe fuel cap.
Fillfuel tank outdoorsor inwell-ventilatedarea.

edging.

Theprimeris usedto pumpgas into thecarburetorand aid in starting
the engine.Use it to start a coldengine,butdo not useit to restarta
warmengineafter a short shutdown.

1. Attachthe sparkplug wireto the spark plug.Makecertainthe
metalcap on the end of the spark plug wireis fastenedsecurely
overthe metaltip on thespark plug.

Keeparea clearof bystandersand do notoperatewithoutguardsin

Movethe bladedepthcontrol leverbackto the STARTpositionin
theadjacent(top) notch.
Depressthe primerbulb threetimes, pausingtwo to three
secondsbetweeneach push. Incold weather(below50°F/19°0),
it may be necessaryto depressthe primerbulb fouror five times.

Donot lowerbladeif bladeis overconcrete,asphalt,rocksor the like.

NOTE:Usingthe primerto restarta warmengineafter a short

wheelis on a hard surfaceand the blade is overthearea to be
cut. See Figure7.

pull the rope outwarduntil enginereachesthestart of its compressioncycle (the ropewill pull slightlyharderat this point).
After slowlyallowingthe rope to recoil,pullthe ropewith a rapid,
continuous,full arm stroke.Keepa firm grip on starterhandle
throughouttheentirestroke.
Allowthe starterhandleto slowlyreturnto the eyebolt.

NOTE:If the enginefails to start afterthree pulls,depressthe primer
an additionaltwo times beforepullingthe starterrope again.

THE ENGINE

Tostop theedger'sengine,releasetheblade controlbail.

With the bladecontrol bail squeezedagainstthe handlein the
operatingposition,makea passalong areato be edgedbefore
proceedingto the next notch.The furtherforwardthat the blade
depthcontrol leveris moved,thedeeperor lowerthe bladewill
cut intothe ground.Severalpassesmaybe necessaryto obtain
the desireddepthof cut. Donot lowerblademorethan one depth
notch at a time withoutmakinga pass.

Forbest results,proceedslowlyalongthe pathbeing edged.
Slowly moveedger back and forth throughcuttingarea,again
makingsureto keepthe left rear wheelon the hard surfaceand
the blade in the cuttingpath, closeto but not touchingthe edge of
the hard surface.

Once youhavefinishededgingselectedarea,raisethe blade
depthcontrol leverbackinto theSTARTposition,moveto the next
area to be edged,and proceedagain from step 1.

Edging Along A Curb
The right, rearwheelof the edgercan be loweredintoone of five
positionsto easethe taskof edgingalonga curb. Toadjustthe height
of curbwheel, proceedas follows:

corrosivematerials,such as lawnfertilizer.

Coat the edgerblade with chassisgreaseto preventrustingand

cleanengineoil intothe cylinder.Pullthe recoilstarterseveral
timesto distributethe oil,and reinstallthe spark plug.

Coat the edger,especiallyanyspringsand bearingswith a light
oil or siliconespray.

Cleanthe exteriorof the engineand the edger.

Cleandebrisfrom aroundthe engine,and under,around,and
behindthe muffler.Applya light film of oil on anyareasthat are
susceptibleto rust.
Storein a clean,dry and wellventilatedarea awayfrom any
appliancethat operateswith a flameor pilot light,such as a
furnace,waterheateror clothesdryer.Avoidany areawith a spark
producingelectricmotor,or wherepowertools are operated.
if possible,avoidstorageareaswith high humidity.

NOTE:Whenstoringanytype of powerequipmentin an poorly
ventilatedor metal storageshed,care shouldbe taken to rustproofthe
equipment.

Keepthe enginelevelin storage.Tiltingthe engine can cause
fuelor oil leakage.

Beforeperforminganytypeof maintenance/service,
disengageall controlsandstoptheengine.Waituntilall
movingpartshavecometo a completestop.Disconnectsparkplugwireandgrounditagainsttheengineto

2. Muevala palancade controlde profundidadde la cuchillapara

La cuchillade corte giratoriapuede lanzarobjetosy causar lesiones
personales. Mantengael _.realibre de observadoresy no opere sin
tenet todos los protectores.

Nobaje la cuchilla si la cuchilla se encuentrasobreconcreto,asfalto,
rocaso similar.La cuchillapuedegolpearcontra la superficiede
apoyoy provocarlesionespersonaleso perjuiciosrnateriales.

Presionela bornbilladel cebadortres veces,haciendouna pausa
de dos a tres segundosentrecadapresi6n.Cuandohacefrio
(debajode 50°F/19°C),puedeser necesariopresionarel bulbo del
cebadorcuatroo cinco veces.

Paracornenzara bordear,procedade la siguienteforrna:
1. Mueva[a unidada[_.reaque va a recortar,asegur_.ndose
de que
[a ruedaposteriorizquierdaest_ sobreuna superficiedura y que
la cuchillaest,. sobreel _.reaa cortar.Veala Figura5.

NOTA:Generalrnenteno hacefalta usarel cebadorparavolvera
arrancarun motorcaliente.Hacerlopuedeprovocarque el motorse
ahogue.
4. Paradodetr_.sde la unidad,presionela palancade controlde
la cuchillay sost_ngalocontra la barra superiorcon la rnano
izquierda.

Este rnecanisrnode controles un dispositivode seguridad.Nunca
intenteevitarsu funcionarniento.

Con la rnanoderecha,tome la rnanijadel arrancadorde retroceso
y lentarnentetire de la cuerdahaciaafuerahastaque el motor
Ilegueal principiode su ciclo de cornpresi6n(la cuerdaestar_,un
pocorn_.stensaen este punto).

Despu_sde perrnitirque la cuerdavuelva lentarnente,tirede la
cuerdacon un rnovirnientode brazor_.pidoy continuo.Durante
todoel rnovirnientornantengafirrnernentesujetala rnanijadel
arrancador.

Perrnitaque la rnanijadel arrancadorvuelva lentarnenteal perno
de anilla.
