CSR Retail Tag Instructions Manual
Introduction
The CSR CNS12015 Proximity Beacon is a standalone device, designed to be maintenance free, there
are no user serviceable parts in the device. The CSR beacon uses the ISM band of 2.4GHz to 2.5HZ to
operate, uses extremely low power, the power output will be no more than 0dBm, which enables
the battery life to be extended. This model is designed to operate using 2 AA alkaline batteries. The
typical battery life for the device is greater than 3 years.
The beacon is design to be positioned on or near to a location or object (e.g. a shelf in a store). The
Beacons sole function is to transmit a pre-set unique number, which will allow a simple application
loaded onto a smart phone to link to a website or backend service which would provide content,
URL, action and / or information about an associated location.
The BLE Proximity Beacon can be positioned on the shelf or under it, it can be positioned near to a
location or tied to an object using magnets, bolts or a simple cable tie.
The Beacon is shipped with its batteries installed; simply pull the pull tab to activate the beacon.
The unit is now operating and the installer or developer can now program the beacon using the CSR
Field Service Application (FSA). Once the beacon is programmed the developer or installer is able to
associate actions and or content with this beacon using the CSR web APIs to manage the beacon.
End-Users with applications that use CSR’s client may now detect the CSR beacon and the app will
receive instruction on how to react.
