Base DiagramTraits of Cordless TelephonesA.Cordless telephones offer convenience and mobility duringtelephone conversations. The use of cordless phones isdependent upon the availability of AC power. Any disruption ofelectrical power at your location will prevent the placing orreceiving of telephone calls. It is recommended that a cordlesstelephone should not be installed as the only phone at yourlocation.B.The usable range of the cordless handset away from the base isdependent upon many factors. The telephone base is like a radiotransmitter in that it transmits telephone line signals via radio wavesto the handset. Therefore, the location of the base is important inorder to maximize the usable range. For example, installing thebase on the second floor, in some locations, will provide longerrange than a ground floor installation. Pick a location that givesyou the clearest signal. The following can adversely affect usablerange:*Aluminum siding*Insulation with foil backing*Any metal construction which could shield radio signalsAtmospheric conditions also play an important role in the perfor-mance of your cordless telephone.Interference can be caused by placing the base near:*Fluorescent lights*Appliances that generate electrical noise, including:*Microwaves*Televisions*VCRs*Baby monitors*Computers9 1080109-3100IB-corr.P65 2004/5/7, PM 08:306
C.For maximum performance, always keep the battery pack fullycharged.D.Plug your AC adaptor directly into an outlet, not an extensioncord.E.Do not plug other appliances into the outlet or have the outletcontrolled by a wall switch.F.If you want to use more than one cordless telephone in your home,the telephones must operate on different channels. Contactyour shipping agent or return the telephone to the place ofpurchase.Preliminary Preparation Telephone Line Installation1.Never install telephone jack during a lightning storm.2.Never install telephone jack in a wet location unless the jack isspecifically designed for wet locations.3.Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless thetelephone line has been disconnected at the network interface.4.Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.AC OutletThe GH3100 Cordless Telephone operates from a standard 110/120 volt AC outlet. The handset is powered by a rechargeable bat-tery pack. Batteries are charged automatically when the handset isplaced in the cradle of the base unit.InstallationA.Plug one end of the long telephone line cord into the back of theunit and connect the other end to a modular wall jack. Press untillocking lever clicks.B.Connect the DC Adaptor into the back of the unit. Plug the otherend into a standard 110/120 volt AC outlet.C.Insert the battery park and then place the handset into the baseunit. Handset Battery ChargingThe battery pack in the handset must be fully charged for about 16hours before using the telephone.Note:a.When the battery gets low, there will be a low-battery beep fromthe handset while you are on a call.b.If the battery becomes low while you are on a call, terminate thecall quickly and put handset in the base to recharge the battery.c.The battery will hold its charge for several days out of the cradle,depending on use.To Replace Batteries1.Remove battery cover2.Remove old battery3.Install new battery4.Close battery cover.5.Place the handset on the base unit.6.Charge 16 hours before first use.Note: To maximize your battery’s life, periodically drain the batteryfully and then recharge it. To do this, unplug the phone line cordfrom your wall phone jack. Remove Handset from Base/Charger unitand press the “TALK” button. Handset Batteries must then be rechargedfor a full 16 hours.SetupTo set Ring Tone:This telephone offers 2 standard ring tones.1.Press and hold “PROG” to enter the program menu ringer tonesetting mode.2.You can choose from ring tones 1 or 2 by pressing volume “    ” or “    ”  button or 1 or 2 on the keypad.3.Press “PROG” to confirm the ringer melody and exit theprogram menu.To set Tone/Pulse1.Press and hold “PROG” to enter the program menu.2.Press “*/TONE” or “#/PAUSE” on the keypad to select the TONE/PULSE item.3.Press “PROG/FLASH” to confirm the setting.Telephone OperationMaking a Call1.Lift the handset and press the “TALK” button to connect tothe telephone line.2.After hearing a dial tone, dial the desired number. If you misdial,simply press the “TALK” button. Wait for a couple ofseconds, and press the “TALK” button again for a newdial tone.3.After the conversation has been completed, press the “TALK”button once to disconnect the line, or return the handset to thebase. The IN USE/CHARGE LED will turn ON.Receiving a Call Through the HandsetWhen ringing, press the “TALK” button on the handset to answerthe call.Memory FeaturesYour GH3100 is equipped with 10 memories for programming yourmost frequently dialed telephone numbers. To Program Frequently Called Numbers:1.Press the “MEM” button on the handset2.Press the 0-9 key on the keypad to select the memory locationwhere the telephone number is to be stored. You can choosefrom MEM 0-9.3.Press “MEM” to confirm the location.4.Enter the telephone number you wish to store, using the handsetkeypad.Note: If you accidentally press a 21st digit, an error tone willsound, and you must reprogram the number.- Press the “#/Pause” key once to enter a pause in the dialingsequence to show where the pause has been inserted.5.Press the “MEM” button to confirm the entered telephonenumber.To Dial Number Stored in MemoryWHEN THE TALK BUTTON IS ON:1.Press the “MEM” button on the handset.2.Press the desired memory location (0 through 9).RedialYour GH3100 remembers the last number (up to 32 digits) dialed.This is a convenient feature when trying to place a call to a phonenumber that is not being answered or is continuously busy.1.Press the “TALK” button to hear the dial tone.2.Press the “REDIAL” button to dial out the last number youdialed.FlashYou can use your cordless telephone with special services such asCall Waiting or Three Way Conference (Special subscription fromyour local telephone company is required). During a telephone con-versation, you may hear a tone or click, which indicates that youare receiving another call. To speak to the second caller and put thefirst call on Hold, press the “Flash” button. Press “Flash” again toreturn to the original call. You may also press the “Flash” button toobtain a new dial tone.ChannelWhile talking on the phone, you might need to manually changethe channel in order to reduce static caused by appliances, suchas microwave ovens. Press and release the CHAN button to moveto the next clear channel.Receiver Volume ControlYour GH3100 allows you to adjust the handset volume to a morecomfortable listening level. Press VOLUME “    ” or “    ”  keys onthe handset to increase or decrease volume, while handset is in theTalk On mode.Page/Handset LocatorYou can send a page signal from the base to the handset.Press the “PAGE” button on the base once, and the handset willbeep for 2 minutes.Press the “TALK” button on the handset to stop the handset frombeeping, and go to “TALK” mode.Low Battery Warning*When the handset battery voltage level is low, the handset “TALK”button should flash.*Return the handset on the BASE unit for charging.15 1680109-3100IB-corr.P65 2004/5/7, PM 08:329
Troubleshooting GuideIf you have followed the instructions in this manual, and have diffi-culty operating your Southwestern Bell Freedom Phone CordlessTelephone, refer to this guide to locate and remedy problem.Troubleshooting Guide (Cont.)PROBLEMThe unit will notoperate.No dial tone.Difficulty placing orreceiving calls.POSSIBLE CAUSEImproper installation.The digital security code hasbeen lost due to a powerloss while the handset wasaway from the base.The battery is not charged.See the above mentionedpossible causes.The handset is being usedtoo far away from base.You may have lost thesecurity code. The handsetcan no longer communicatewith its base. The loss of thecode can occur if the batteryis drained and needsrecharging, the DC adaptoris disconnected, a powerloss occurred, or there iselectrical interference fromother cordless phones, babymonitors, microwaves, etc.Even a momentary powerinterruption could eraseyour cordless phone’ssecurity code.CORRECTIVE  ACTIONRecheck all plug connections.Also, check the DC adaptor forproper connection to wall outletand phone base.Reset the digital security code byreturning the handset to the base.A new code is automatically set.Charge the battery for about 10-14 hours before initial use orwhen the battery handset beepsin talk mode.See above corrective actions.Move the handset closer to thebase.1.
