To avoid shock or fire, replace power cordimmediately if it is worn, cut or damaged in any way.Some dust created by power sanding sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construction activities contains chemicalsknown [to the State of California] to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of thesechemicals are:@ Lead from lead-based paints.@ Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products, and@ Arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber.Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type of work. To reduce your exposure tothese chemicals: work in a well ventilated area, and work with approved safety equipment, such as those dust masksthat are specially designed to filter out microscopic particles.i:!=ii/:!GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCT ONSBEFORE USING THE BAND SAWSafety is a combination of common sense, staying alertand knowing how to use your band saw.To avoid mistakes that could cause serious injury, do notplug the band saw in until you have read and understoodthe following:1. READ and become familiar with this entire instructionmanual. LEARN the tool's applications, limitations, andpossible hazards.2. KEEP GUARDS iN PLACE and in working order.3. REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES. Formthe habit of checking to see that keys and adjustingwrenches are removed from the tool before turning ON.4. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluttered areas andbenches invite accidents.,.DONq" USE IN A DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENT. Don'tuse power tools in damp or wet locations, or exposethem to rain. Keep work area well lighted.KEEP CHILDREN AWAY. All visitors should be kept ata safe distance from the work area.,MAKE WORKSHOP KID-PROOF with padlocks,master switches, or by removing starter keys:8. DON'T FORCE THE TOOL. It will do the job better andsafer at the rate for which it was designed.9. USE THE RIGHT TOOL. Don't force the tool or theattachment to do a job for which it was not designed.t0. USE PROPER EXTENSION CORD. Make sure yourextension cord is in good condition. When using anextension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough tocarry the current your product will draw. An undersizedcord will result in a drop in line voltage and loss ofpower which wilt cause the tool to overheat. The tableon page 5 shows the correct size to use depending oncord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt,use the next heavier gauge. The smaller the gaugenumber, the heavier tSe cord.11. WEAR PROPER APPAREL. DO NOT wear looseclothing, gloves, neckties, rings, bracelets, or otherjewelry which may get caught in moving parts. Non-slipfootwear is recommended. Wear protective hair coveringto contain long hair.!2.13.14.15.16.17.18.t9.ALWAYS WEAR EYEWP.AR YO_ PROTECTION. Any band sawcan throw foreign objects intothe eyes which could causepermanent eye damage.ALWAYS wear Safety Goggles(not glasses) that comply withANSI safety standard Z87.1. Everyday eyeglasseshave only impact-resistant lenses. They ARE NOT safetyglasses. Safety Goggles are available at Sears. NOTE:Glasses or goggles not in compliance with ANSI Z87.1could seriously hurt you when they break.WEAR A FACE MASK OR DUST MASK. Sawing andsanding operations produce dust.SECURE WORK. Use clamps or a vise to hold workwhen practical. It's safer than using your hand and itfrees both hands to operate tool.D_SCONNECT TOOLS before servicing, and whenchanging accessories, such as blades, bits, cutters,and the like.REDUCE THE R_SK OF UNINTENTIONAL STARTING.Make sure the switch is in OFF position before pluggingin.USE RECOMMENDED ACCESSORIES. Consult theowner's manual for the recommended accessories. Theuse of improper accessories may cause risk of injuryto persons.NEVER STAND ON TOOL. Serious injury could occurif the tool is tipped or if the cutting tool is unintentionallycontacted.CHECK FOR DAMAGED PARTS.
