Disconnecting sander/polisherwill prevent accidental starting that could cause serious personal injury. LOCK-ON BUTTON See Figure2. Your sander/polisheris equipped with a "lock-on" feature, which is convenientwhen continuousoperationfor extended periods of time is required.This feature can be used for both high and low speeds. To lock on, depressthe switchtrigger, push in and hold the "lock-on" button bcated on the side of the handle,then release the switchtrigger. Release "lockon"button and your sander/poilsherwitlcontinue running.To release the lock-on feature, depress switchtrigger and release it. AUXILIARY HANDLE See Figure 2. An auxiliary handle is pecked with your sander/polisher for ease of operation and to help prevent loss of control, Any loss of control could result in an accident, causing possible serious personal injuw. The motor housings are designed so that the auxiliary handle can be instatled on either side of the unit. INSTALLING See Figure 3, • ,_ OR REMOVING RUBBER DISC Unplug your sender/polishen WARNING: Feilure to unplug your sender/ polisher could result in accidental starting causing possible sedous personal injury. • Positionthe teal as shownin figure 3 and align the spindlelock holewith the two haEE-circle notchesin motorhousing.Lock spindleby insertingthe pin providedthrough spindlelock hole and trapping it in half circle notches. This will preventspindlefrom rotating. • Thread nJbber disc,fiat face up, onto spindlein a clockwisedirection.Turn until rubber disc shoulders on the spindle. • The unit is now ready for installationof the sanding discor polishingbonnet. SPINDLELOCK HOLE ELECTRICAL Fig. 3 CONNECTION Your sandedpelisherhas a precisionbuiltelectrlomotor. It shouldbe connectedto a power supply that is 120 volts, 60 Hz, AC only (nom'mlhousehold curlrent). Do not operatethis tool on directcurrent(IX;). A substantialvoltagedropwUlcausee tossof powerand the motor witloverheat. If yourtool does not operate when pluggedintoan outlet,double-checkthe power supply. RightF&x 8/12/2004 4:56 PAGE 009/015 Fax Server SANDING DISC SELECTION SPANNER WRENCH Selectingthe correct size grit and type sandingdisc is an extremely important step in achievinga highquality sandedfinish. Aluminum oxide, siliconcarbide, and other syntheticabrasivesare bestfor power sanding. Natural abrasives, such as flintand game_are too soft for economicaluse in power sanding. In general, coarse gritwill remove the most material and finergrit wig producethe best finish in all sanding operations.The condition ofthe surface to be sanded will determinewhich gritwill do the job. If the surface is rough, startwith e coarse gdt and sand untilthe surface is uniform.Medium grit may then be used to remove scratchesleft by the coarser gritand finer gdt used for finishingof the surface. SPANNER NUT SANDINGDISC {NOr INCLUOED) Always use the proper grit sandingdisc,and notextra pressurewhen sanding. Continue sanding with each grit until surface is uniform, INSTALLING See Figure 4. • _i, OPTIONAL SANDING DISC RUBBERDISC Unplug your sendedpolisher. BONNETS MUST BE KEPT CLEAN AND FREE FRO• GRIT, DIRT, AND OTHER ABRASIVE PARTICLES, When bonnetsbecome dirty and clogged with polishingfilm, wash in lukewarmwater with a mild detergent. Allow bonnetsto dry throughly before reuse. Polish with a long sweeping motion,back and forth, advancing along the surfaceto be polished. Do not holdthe tool in one spotor usa a circularor spiralpattern. This will cause swirlsin the finish. Spread a lightcoat of polishor wax over a smallarea. Polish with the tool accordingto the manufacturer's instructionsprintedon the label of the polishor wax container. powercordover sectionsalready polished, particularly on automobiles. Surfaces that have an old film of wax or polish, or that have not been polishedor waxedfor an extended period of time, may requirea secondapplication. This is especiallytrue on oxidized surfaces. Heavily oxidized surfaces should be cleaned with a commercial paste or liquidcleaner before polishingor waxing. Note: Some polishesshouldbe buffedwhile damp where others must be allowed to dry; therefore always check the manufacturer's label. Always start polishing at the top or highest point and work down. This will prevent light dust or polish film from being thrown upon completed section.
