The remote control allows for discreet onehanded programming of a Standard bolus without touching or looking at your insulin pump. Your insulin pump beeps and vibrates to assist you with the programming and the indicator light of the remote control confirms each press of a key with a light signal. This owner's booklet provides you with the necessary information for safe and efficient use of the remote control with your insulin pump. The remote control is an accessory for a medical device and must be trained on SENSOTREND is a trademark of a Member of the Roche Group. its operation prior to use. Prior to using your SENSOTREND insulin pump read the Owner's Booklet to become familiar with its safe use and the appropriate warnings and precautions for its operation. Prior to using your SENSOTREND insulin pump with your remote control be aware of the following warnings: Warning: Incorrect programming of your insulin pump may cause inappropriate insulin delivery. Your insulin pump must be programmed with your personal settings prior to starting insulin pump therapy. Do not operate your insulin pump without knowing your personal settings. If you are not sure about your personal settings or you are less experienced, have your doctor or healthcare team check your personal settings. Work with your doctor or healthcare team to determine the timing, 1 The remote control for your SENSOTREND insulin pump amount and type of bolus you need to deliver. Make sure you know your personal carbohydrate insulin ratio and your correction bolus ratio. Warning: Do not use the SENSOTREND insulin pump and remote control if you are not able to read the display, hear the beeps or you are not able to feel the vibrations. The display, beeps and vibrations indicate critical alert information and must be addressed immediately by the insulin pump user. Failure to see, hear or feel the alerts from the insulin pump could result in serious harm or death of the user. Warning: Keep the remote control out of unauthorized third persons and of children. Activation of the remote control may lead to unintended bolus delivery. Warning: Incorrect programming of your insulin pump may cause inappropriate insulin delivery. Your insulin pump must be programmed with your personal settings prior to starting insulin pump therapy. Do not operate your insulin pump without knowing your personal settings. If you are not sure about your personal settings or you are less experienced, have your doctor or healthcare team check your personal settings. Warning: If your insulin pump “times out” before you finish programming a bolus, no bolus is delivered. Check the bolus history screens on your insulin pump for the bolus amount delivered with time and date and program a new bolus if necessary (see section 4.8.1 of your SENSOTREND owner's booklet). Warning: Avoid deliberate contact with water. Check daily that your insulin pump and the remote control are not chipped, cracked or damaged in any way. In the presence of chips and cracks, water, dust, insulin, or other foreign substances may enter your insulin pump and your remote control and lead to malfunction. Warning: You must inspect the remote control and your insulin pump immediately after an accidental immersion in water or after any accidental contact with foreign liquids that could damage or contaminate the insulin pump system. Warning: Do not perform any servicing or repair on the remote control by yourself or by an unauthorized person. Any changes or modifications to the remote control that are not expressly approved by Disetronic may void the warranty. For any questions please contact your local Customer Care Area. Warning: Avoid electromagnetic fields of radar or antenna installations, high-voltage sources, X-Ray sources, MRI, CAT scan or other sources of electrical current. Do not use your insulin pump and the remote control in such areas. Electromagnetic fields may cause malfunction to your insulin pump and remote control. Always stop your insulin pump beforehand. In other cases, the insulin delivery may be stopped immediately and an error E7: ELECTRONIC ERROR occurs. Warning: Your insulin pump has not been tested with cardiac pacemakers. Do not use the SENSOTREND insulin pump if you have a cardiac pacemaker. Warning: Any changes or modification to the remote control or insulin pump that are not expressly approved by Disetronic could void your ability to operate the SENSOTREND insulin pump. Warning: Be sure that the remote control ID numbers programmed into your insulin pump belong to your remote control. Do not have other remote ID numbers programmed into the insulin pump besides the remote(s) that you are personally using. Keep the remote control out of reach of children. Do not let your remote control be handled by unauthorized persons as a bolus could be accidentally delivered. The pocket and watch remote control are available only from Disetronic. Please consult your SENSOTREND owner's booklet or contact your local Customer Care Area for more information. For information on your insulin pump, please refer to the SENSOTREND owner's booklet. Models available Two different remote control models are available: The pocket remote control which looks like an ordinary key chain. The watch remote control is a wristwatch of Swiss quality that integrates both the time piece and the remote control. 10 11 2 Handling Indicator light Keys Indicator light Keys and indicator light of the remote control The use of the remote control requires three keys. With each key press you hear a soft click (pocket remote control only) and the indicator light confirms that a key has been pressed. The indicator light will remain on as long as you press the key. Activation key Pocket remote control 12 13 2 Handling Up or Down to program and cancel a Standard bolus, and to increase or reset the bolus amount. For each press of the or key the indicator light flashes. If you accidentally press the and (or ) keys simultaneously, the indicator light remains on during the press and your insulin pump tries to establish the communication. If the communication is already active, your insulin pump will beep** and vibrate periodically (a short vibration every second), if is pressed. Please note the and symbols refer to the keys of your SENSOTREND insulin pump. ** Depending on the beep volume setting. 14 Your SENSOTREND insulin pump beeps** when you activate the remote control communication, or the bolus delivery starts. Vibrations you start the Standard bolus (long menu, during the confirmation of vibration) the bolus amount, you reset the bolus amount to zero, or you cancel the bolus. Pocket remote control Use your thumb to slide the remote control out of its cover until you see all three keys. After use, close the cover properly to avoid unintentional key operation and to protect the remote control. Watch remote control Pull gently at the crown of the watch remote control until you hear a soft click. 16 Set the time as desired by turning the crown. When finished push the crown in. The watch remote control has a conventional watchstrap. It may be replaced according to your personal preference by an authorized jeweller. Position of the remote control to your SENSOTREND insulin pump The remote control works best at an arm's length distance from your insulin pump. Position the remote control in the vicinity of your insulin pump to establish the communication. Do not have other remote ID numbers programmed into the pump besides the remote(s) that you are personally using. Keep the remote control out of reach of children. Do not let your remote control be handled by unauthorized persons as a bolus could be accidentally delivered. 18 Each remote control has an unique ID number to provide secure communication between your insulin pump and the remote control. This ID number is engraved in the rear casing of the remote control. To view the ID number of the pocket remote control use your thumb to slide the remote control out of its cover. The ID number has to be added to the REGISTERED IDs list of your SENSOTREND insulin pump before use. Add only the ID(s) of your remote control(s) to your personal SENSOTREND insulin pump. If you are using a different SENSOTREND insulin pump, make sure to add the remote control ID(s) prior to use. A remote control, which is not registered on your insulin pump, cannot activate the communication. ID number 19 3 Preparation In order to make use of the remote control, the remote control function on your insulin pump must be turned on. Please refer to the sections 5.1 and 5.3 in your SENSOTREND owner's booklet for further information. On the rear of the casing you will find additional information engraved. These include the SN and the REF number. Please refer to the section 10 in this owner's booklet for further information on the labelling. 20 21 4 Adding the remote control ID number Warning: Be sure that the remote control ID numbers programmed into your insulin pump belong to your remote control. Do not have other remote ID numbers programmed into the insulin pump besides the remote(s) that you are personally using. Keep the remote control out of reach of children. Do not let your remote control be handled by unauthorized persons as a bolus could be accidentally delivered. Use the remote control and your SENSOTREND insulin pump and check your insulin pump's display during the entire registry process. menu is turned on. After the ID is added, the REGISTERED IDs screen automatically appears. Compare the display with the engraved ID number on the remote control casing to make sure that the ID number is correctly registered. Hold your remote control closer to your insulin pump and repeat steps 4 to 6. 24 If you want to register a further remote control now, repeat steps 4 to 6 with the additional remote control. 7. Save and exit with – You can register up to three different remote controls to your insulin pump. For safety reasons (unintended bolus activation) we recommend to register only the one remote control in use on your insulin pump. – You can review any registered remote control(s) at the REGISTERED IDs screen. – Check that the remote control function is turned on ( ) in the quick info screen. To view the quick info screen press from the RUN or STOP screen. 25 4 Adding the remote control ID number – If you do not use the remote control(s), turn the REMOTE CONTROL function to OFF ( , see step 2). Your insulin pump must be programmed with your personal settings prior to starting insulin pump therapy. Do not operate your insulin pump without knowing your personal settings. If you are not sure about your personal settings or you are less experienced, have your doctor or healthcare team check your personal settings. Warning: If your insulin pump “times out” before you finish programming a bolus, no bolus is delivered. Check the bolus history screens on your insulin pump for the bolus amount delivered with time and date and program a new bolus if necessary (see section 4.8.1 of your SENSOTREND owner's booklet). 28 The remote control allows you to easily and discreetly program a bolus of insulin. Your SENSOTREND insulin pump must be in RUN. Each key press and each bolus increment you program is confirmed with beeps** and vibrations. Pay attention and count these confirming beeps** and vibrations for secure programming. The remote programming follows a defined sequence which involves key presses and pre-set time intervals. If you use the KeyLock function on your insulin pump, the keys are automatically unlocked as you activate the communication with the key and remains unlocked until the bolus is delivered. ** Depending on the beep volume setting. 29 5 Program a Standard bolus The bolus increment is initially set to 0.5 units per key press. The delivered amount is listed in the initial bolus history screen, if no other bolus was delivered. In case of re-programming a new bolus, please take this delivered amount into account. Never use solvents, strong detergents, corrosive chemicals or similar substances. If the remote control had an accidental contact with such a liquid, clean it with a damp cloth. Contact with water and other liquids: Water Warning: Avoid deliberate contact with water. Check daily that your insulin pump and the remote control are not chipped, cracked or damaged in any way. In the presence of chips and cracks, water, dust, insulin, or other foreign substances may enter your insulin pump and your remote control and lead to malfunction. 46 Warning: You must inspect the remote control and your insulin pump immediately after an accidental immersion in water or after any accidental contact with foreign liquids that could damage or contaminate the insulin pump system. Use a soft cloth to clean and/or dry the outside casing of the remote control if necessary. Please refer to the sections 8.1.3 and 9.2 in your SENSOTREND owner’s booklet for further information. In case of contact with a liquid, dry the remote control gently with a soft cloth. For the pocket remote control, slide it open, and place it leaning in an upright position with the fixing eyelet pointing downwards to let it dry. 47 7 Recommendations for daily use Heat and cold: Do not expose the remote control to extremes in temperature and do not exceed the admissible temperature range. Fast temperature changes combined with water or high humidity may harm the remote control. Do not take the remote control e.g. into saunas, baths, hot tubs, Jacuzzis or whirlpools. Please refer to section 9.1 in this owner's booklet for further information. Heat Cold Dropping or damaging the remote control: Avoid shocks and hits to the remote control as this may break the remote control's seal against liquids. In case of suspected damage inspect the remote control for chips and cracks and press a key to check for the indicator light. If the remote control is damaged, please call your local Customer Care Area. 48 49 8 Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Warning: Do not perform any servicing or repair on the remote control by yourself or by an unauthorized person. Do not use your insulin pump and the remote control in such areas. Electromagnetic fields may cause malfunction to your insulin pump and remote control. Always stop your 50 insulin pump beforehand. In other cases, the insulin delivery may be stopped immediately and an error E7: ELECTRONIC ERROR occurs. Keep the remote control at a secure distance of at least 60 cm (25 inches) from potential sources of electromagnetic interference. Warning: Your insulin pump has not been tested with cardiac pacemakers. Do not use the SENSOTREND insulin pump if you have a cardiac pacemaker. If your insulin pump does not provide feedback to the key presses on the remote control, the communication may be interrupted. Move the remote control into the vicinity of your insulin pump while pressing the key until your insulin pump responds. Once communication is active, keep the remote control in the same vicinity 51 8 Troubleshooting of your insulin pump while programming the bolus. Please note that there may be some potential for interference by metal objects that are placed within the path of your insulin pump and the remote control. This interference may disturb or interrupt communication between the remote control and your insulin pump. If you are not able to establish communication between the remote control and your insulin pump, check that the ID number of the remote control is listed in your insulin pump REGISTERED IDs list in the REMOTE CONTROL menu. If it is not listed, add the ID number of your remote control. Please refer to the section 5.3 in your SENSOTREND owner's booklet for further information. 52 In case that all these corrective actions are not successful please contact your local Customer Care Area. Watch remote control The watch remote control has two batteries, one for the remote control function and one to power the watch. – Remote control function: A series of 10 quick flashes by the remote control indicates that the battery is low and needs replacement. 53 8 Troubleshooting – Watch function: When the battery for the watch gets low, the second hand will pause for 4 seconds prior to 4 seconds in one step. When the battery is low contact your local Customer Care Area to replace the battery. Repair and disposal ... Do not modify the remote control in any way and do not perform any service or repair on the remote control. This might damage the seal against water as well as the functioning of your remote control, and in any case would void the warranty. Repair ... Please do not dispose of the remote control in your normal garbage. It has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules and with RS-210 of Industry Canada. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: 1. This device may not cause harmful interference, and 2. this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. Care should be taken for the remote control to be used in such a manner that the potential for human contact during normal operation is minimized. 60 This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications.
