Installation and User Instructions for S680 & S690 Readers The S680 and S690 readers are 125kHz proximity card ® readers that are capable of reading HID format card, with LED’s. The readers use 20mA current loop communications. For additional information regarding the installation, configuration and proper use of this product please refer to: M2150 Design Guide, P/N 9600-0420 Issue 1.6.4 or later and SMS Software User Guide, P/N 9600-0429 Issue 7.0.4 or later. Mount the Reader Mount the backplate using countersunk headed screws adjacent to the opening edge of the door. You should find that the backplate has holes for connection to most standard electrical back boxes. You can remove the front cover by easing it off gently with a screwdriver at this point Reader Connections Note: (For UL Listed Products) 1). Consult local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) when installing access control readers and locking mechanisms to any portal in an egress path. 2). The use of Fail Closed / secure configuration shall be determined by local building codes and the local AHJ. 3). Wiring methods shall be in accordance with NEC (National Electrical Code) ANSI/NFPA 70. 4). All Interconnected devices must be UL listed. 5). For UL294 Installations the S680 and S690 Readers have only been determined compatible to be used with the M2150 Series Control and Elevator Units. 3 Reader Connections contd. 20mA current loop Shielded Belden 9537 7x24 awg cable UL Listed style 2464 (DUZX) cable. Controller 12V Red 12V 0V Black 0V RX- Green TX+ Orange TX- TX+ White RX+ TX- Blue RX- RX+ Maximum distance 150m Connect shield at controller end only. 680/690 Reader Note: Brown wire not used Using / Testing the Reader Present the card face-on to the reader until you hear a "bleep". The reader is now working correctly. Cards can be presented in rapid succession; there is no need, for example, to wait for "GREEN LED’s" to disappear before presenting another. When faulted, the reader can not accept a card read. Check wiring for faults or replace reader. LED Status Indicator GREEN – The lock is released and you may open the door. RED – You do not have access rights to gain entry, or the reader did not read your card properly (in this case, present it again). 9600-0199.
