Other tasks, likeadjusting the volume or seeking upor down, are audio features that areeasily performed by touching one ortwo options, and are not supportedby voice commands. In general there are flexible ways tospeak commands for completing thetasks. If your language supports it, trystating a One-Shot command, suchas “Directions to address <number, street, city, state>.”Do not includethe ZIP code while stating theaddress during the command. Thistype of destination entry commandis supported in some languages.Another example of a One-ShotDestination Entry command is,“Directions to place of interest at<hotel>.”If these commands do notwork, try saying, “Take me to Placeof Interest”or “Find address”andthe system will walk you though byasking additional questions.Hybrid Speech RecognitionIf equipped, this feature helpsdistinguish words by usingInternet-based information alongwith the system’s voice recognitiondatabase. GMC Terrain/Terrain Denali Infotainment System (GMNA-Localizing-NG U.S./Canada-11434554) - 2018 - crc - 3/31/17Voice Recognition 39For best results:.Listen for the prompt and waitfor the beep before saying acommand or reply..Say “Help”or look at theinfotainment display for examplecommands..Speak the command naturally, not too fast, not too slow..Use direct commands without alot of extra words. For example,“Call <name> at work,” “Play”followed by the artist or songname, or “Tune”followed by theradio station number..Navigation destinations can bemade in a single commandusing keywords. A few examplesare: “I want directions to anaddress,” “I need to find a placeof interest or (POI),”or “Findcontact.”The system responds withrequesting more details. Aftersaying “Place of Interest,”onlymajor chains are available byname. Chains are businesseswith at least 20 locations. Forother POIs, say the name of acategory like “Restaurants,”“Shopping Malls,”or “Hospitals.”.Navigating to a destinationoutside of the current countrytakes more than one command. The first command is to tell thesystem where the navigation willtake place, such as an Address,Intersection, POI, or Contact. If Address or Intersection isselected, the second commandis to say, “Change Country.”Once the system responds, saythe country before saying therest of the address and/orintersection.If POI is asked for, say “ChangeLocation,”then “ChangeCountry.”Direct commands might be moreclearly understood by the system. An example of a direct commandwould be “Call <number>.”Examples of these direct commandsare displayed on most of thescreens while a voice session isactive. If “Phone”or “PhoneCommands,”is spoken, the systemunderstands that a phone call isrequested and will respond withquestions until enough details aregathered to make a call.If a cell phone number has beensaved with a name and a place, thedirect command should includeboth, for example “Call <name>at work.”Using Voice Recognition forList OptionsWhen a list is displayed, a voiceprompt will ask to confirm or selectan option from that list. When a display contains a list, theremay be options that are availablebut not displayed. The list on avoice recognition screen functionsthe same as a list on other displays.Scrolling or flinging can be used tohelp display other entries fromthe list.Manually scrolling or paging the liston a display during a voicerecognition session suspends thecurrent voice recognition event andplays the prompt “Please select

Thesystem may limit the options ofvoice recognition by not allowingselection of files by voice at thehighest level if the number of filesexceed the maximum limit.Changes to voice commands due tomedia content limits are:.Files including other individualfiles of all media types such assongs, audiobook chapters, podcast episodes, and videos.

When the number offiles connected to the system isbetween 12,000 and 24,000, thecontent cannot be accessed directlywith one command like “Play<song name>.”The restriction is that the command“Play Song”must be spoken first;the system will then ask for the songname. The reply command would beto say the name of the song to play.Similar limits exist for albumcontent. If there are more than12,000 albums, but less than24,000, the content cannot beaccessed directly with onecommand like, “Play <albumname>.”The command “PlayAlbum”must first be spoken; thesystem will then ask for the albumname. The reply would be to say thename of the album to play.Once the number of files hasexceeded approximately 24,000,there is no support for accessing thesongs directly through voicecommands. There will still beaccess to the media content byusing commands for playlists, artists, and genres. The access commands for playlists, artists, and genres are prohibitedafter the number of this type ofmedia exceeds 12,000.The system will provide feedbackthe first time voice recognition isinitiated if it has become apparentthat any of these limits are reachedduring a device initializing process.Voice recognition performance willdegrade to some extent based onmany factors when adding largeamounts of data to recognize. If thisis the case, perhaps accessingsongs through playlists or artistname would work better.Voice Recognition forNavigation“Navigation”:Begin a dialog toenter specific destinationinformation.“Navigation Commands”:Begin adialog to enter specific destinationinformation.“Address”:Begin a dialog to entera specific destination address, which includes the entire addressconsisting of the house number, street name, and city and state/province.
