Creating a bond involves entering the same PIN on the two devices you want to bond. Once a bond is created, the devices need only have their Bluetooth radios turned on to exchange information; they do not need to be in discoverable mode.Creating a Bond1. Make sure that the two devices are placed within 10 meters of one another and that Bluetooth is in discoverable mode on both devices.2. Tap → Settings → Connections → Bluetooth → Bonded Devices → New.3. Your device searches for other Bluetooth devices and displays them in the list.4. Tap the name of the other device, and then Next.5. In PIN, enter a PIN of between 1 and 16 characters and tap Next.6. Enter the same PIN on the other device. 7. If you want, in Name, edit the name of the other device. You may use any name.8. Make sure that the Bluetooth phone is powered on, that your Pocket PC Phone’s and the phone’s Bluetooth radios are turned on, and that your Pocket PC Phone and the phone are placed within 10 meters (30 feet) of one another. Start using the program that uses the Bluetooth phone connec-tion; for example Inbox to send and receive email, or Internet Explorer to browse the Web.

S600 User Manual 14-2Internet Explorer14.1 Using Internet ExplorerYou can use Pocket Internet Explorer to view Web pages on your mobile device in two ways:  downloading pages through synchronization (See Section 12.1) connecting to the Internet (see Chapter 13)To switch to the program, tap → Internet Explorer, or press the IE hot key on the Pocket PC Phone. The Pocket Internet Explorer home page appears.Sending a Link via Email1. Tap → Internet Explorer.2. Go to the page you want to send.3. Tap Tools → Send Link via E-mail. A new message is created with the page address inserted in the message body.14.2 Viewing FavoritesYour Pocket PC Phone has incorporated some of the useful favorites for your use.On the Internet Explorer screen, tap the icon on the cammand bar to open the favorite list.If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 or greater on the desktop computer, you can synchronize favorite links. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later versions on the desktop computer, you can also synchronize mobile favorites. Synchronizing favorite links enable you to have the URLs of your favorite Web sites at your fingertips. Synchronizing a mobile favorite enables you to view Internet content on your device while you are disconnected from your Internet service provider and desktop computer. Favorites are stored in the Mobile Favorites subfolder of Favorites in Internet Explorer on the desktop computer. This folder will be created when you select the Favorites information type for synchronization in ActiveSync on your desktop computer. Favorites must be stored in this folder to be synchronized.Synchronizing a Favorite Link1. In ActiveSync on your desktop computer, click Tools → Options, and select Favorite. 15-2 S600 User Manual Troubleshooting15.1 Resetting the Pocket PC PhoneOccasionally, you may need to reset your Pocket PC Phone when your Pocket PC Phone stops responding (it appears to be “frozen” or “locked up”).1. Remove the miniSD card (if installed).2. Use the stylus to press the Reset switch on the rear of your Pocket PC Phone.15.2 Restoring Factory DefaultsIn some cases, you may need to restore your Pocket PC to the factory default state by clearing the memory (RAM) from your Pocket PC Phone. For example, you should clear the memory: When your Pocket PC Phone cannot be powered on, even if you remove and then re-install the battery. When you forget your password. When you want to remove the additional programs that you installed by yourself.Before clearing the Pocket PC Phone memory and restoring the factory default state, make sure that you have copied your data to the desktop computer or miniSD card.• To restore the factory defaults, press the Power key, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the Reset switch. All data you have entered in SDRAM, including all files, system settings and additional programs you have installed, will be erased. You need to reinstall the additional programs.• Pressing the Power key, Reset switch and Talk key at the same time will restore the factory defaults, and clear the data and programs in SDRAM and NADA Flash ROM.You need to reinstall the additional programs.15.3 Power ProblemsProblem SolutionThe device cannot be powered on when using battery power.The remaining battery power may be too low to run your S600. Connect the AC adapter to your S600 and to external AC power. Then, turn on your S600.Battery runs out of power quickly.You might be using your Pocket PC in a manner that drain power quickly. Use S600 with the AC power.S600 keeps showing the low battery power messages.Maker sure S600 is fully charged. In such case, back up your data, restore the device to the factory default state (see Section 15.1), and then fully charge the device. If the problem persists, send your S600 to the authorized dealer for inspection.Battery does not work correctly.When the battery fails to charge and discharge, and it is not man-made damage and still in the warranty period, send it to the authorized dealer for replacement.
S600 User Manual 15-3Troubleshooting15.4 Memory ProblemsProblem SolutionS600 sends out warnings of insufficient memory.Please perform the following: Delete files that you no longer need: tap → Programs → File Explorer. Delete programs that you no longer need: tap → Settings → System → Remove Programs. Adjust memory allocation: tap → Settings → System → Memory → Main. Delete all files and history in Internet Explorer: tap → Internet Explorer → Tools → Options → Memory. Stop running programs: tap → Settings → System → Memory → Running Programs; or tap on the Today screen. Save data to a miniSD card.How to find out the memory capacity after resetting?.Tap → Settings → System → Memory → Main.15.5 Screen ProblemsProblem SolutionScreen is off.  Connect the AC adapter to your device and to external AC power. Remove the battery and then reinstall it.Screen responds slowly. The battery power may be low. Connect the AC adapter to your device and to external AC power. Probably too many programs are in use. Stop the running programs: tap → Settings → System → Memory → Running Programs.Screen is not clear or hard to read. Turn on the backlight of the display. Move to a location with enough light.Inaccurate response to stylus taps.Realign the touch screen: tap → Settings → System → Screen → Align Screen.15.6 Connection ProblemsProblem SolutionSynchronization to the desktop computer fails. Make sure that you have installed the correct version of ActiveSync on your desktop computer. ActiveSync version 3.7 or later is recommended. Make sure that the cable connection is correct. Disconnect and then re-connect the cable. Remove the driver for S600 and ActiveSync on the desktop computer, and then reinstall them. Do not connect the cable during ActiveSync installation.Using infrared to beam information fails. Transfer only one file, or no more than 25 contact cards, at a time. When using IR, make sure nothing is between the two IR ports. Adjust the room lighting or move to another location (some types of light interfere with beaming).
15-4 S600 User Manual TroubleshootingProblem SolutionNetwork connection is not working properly. If using an external modem, make sure that the modem is installed properly and the dial-up phone number is correct. If using a network card, make sure that it is installed properly. Make sure the network connection settings are correct: tap → Settings → Connections → Connections. Consult the network administrator if the user name and password are correct.Connection to the desktop computer automatically disconnects.Disconnect the USB cable from the desktop computer, and then re-connect it. Allow the desktop computer to find S600 again. If the network is still automatically disconnected, send S600 to an authorized dealer for inspection. If necessary, the dealer will update the firmware of S600 for you. Make sure to back up your data first because updating firmeare will restore the factory default state.The device cannot receive various beamed information from other devices via infrared. Only contact information and picture exchange could work.Infrared information exchange is mainly for contact information exchange with other mobile devices. Currently, most traditional mobile phones could only exchange contact information and group pictures. The resources and compatibility of information exchange with S600 is still limited.However, regarding data sharing and program installation, you can still make use of the connection to the desktop compouter.15.7 Hardware ProblemsProblem SolutionWhat is the CPU and memory of S600?The CPU of your device is Freescale iMX21 266MHz, with memory containing 128MB Flash ROM and 64MB SDRAM.How to clean the camera lens?There is an acrylic material protecting the camera lens inside. Therefore, you only need to clearn the external acrylic material.What miniSD cards are compatible with S600?S600 supports miniSD cards manufactured by SanDisk, KingMAX, Transcend, A-DaTa, and so on.The infrared information exchange only applies to contact information and picture receipt?Infrared information exchange is mainly for contact information exchange with other mobile devices. Currently, most traditional mobile phones could only exchange contact information and group pictures. The resources and compatibility of information exchange with S600 is still limited.S600 may often connect to the desktop computer using the USB cable for data sharing and program installation. Due to the above fact, the USB cable is supplied as a standard accessory for your use.

Use ActiveSync to copy files from the supplied miniSD card to the desktop computer, and then copy those files from the desktop computer to the new card.Some MP3 files cannot play back on S600?Your S600 supports the standard MP3 format only. Clear the non using text messages in S600 for receiving new text messages.Why can’t I use WMA files as the group ring tone?Caller ID on S600 does not suppoort the WMA format. Use MID, WAV and MMF files.How does S600 connect to the Internet via the desktop computer?Connect to the desktop computer using the USB cable. In ActiveSync on the desktop computer, click Tools → Options → Rules → Sharing connection resources, and change the connection to Internet.Failure occurs during program installation on S600.The possible reasons are:1. There is not enough memory. Delete the programs you no longer need.2. There are some running programs.

After switching to the flight mode, wait for 20 seconds to one minute before switching back to the GSM mode.Can I save the text messages and contact information to a miniSD card?Due to the limits of the operating system, you cannot save the text messages and contact information to a miniSD card.Why can’t I zoom in/out and change brightness when using the Camera/DV feature?Please close the VideoCam application, and check if the zoom in/out keys and navigation keys are working normally.Note that the zoom in/out function is not available in DV mode.15.9 Other ProblemsProblem SolutionSome peripheral devices are not compatible with S600.Your S600 uses the new Windows Mobile 20003 Second Edition for Pocket PC Phone as the operating system. The drivers of some peripheral devices may not support the operating system. Contact the dealers of the peripheral devices to see if they can provide drivers supporting the operating system.The programs are missing after remvoing the battery.When you remove the battery for over five minutes or reset S600, it will restore the factory default state. All data stored in RAM will be erased. You are strongly recommended to back up your data regularly. You can use ActiveSync to back up data to the desktop computer (see Section 12.1), or use Backup to back up your data to a miniSD card (see Section 7.4).S600 is broken, and I cannot access the data.If S600 is broken and unable to restart, you have to restore it to the factory default state and all saved data will be lost. To protect the data on your S600 (including all files, system settings and additional programs), we strongly recommend you to back up your data regularly. You can use ActiveSync to back up data to the desktop computer (see Section 12.1), or use Backup to back up your data to a miniSD card (see Section 7.4).S600 retains the contact information from the old SIM card after changing the SIM card.S600 loads the contact information from the SIM card to S600. When changing the SIM card, S600 will compare the contact information of the new SIM card with the old one, and then remove the old information. Wait for about two minutes for the comparison and deletion to complete. Otherwise, the old contact information may not be deleted. In this case, insert another SIM card into S600. Turn the Pocet PC Phone on and wait for two minutes for S600 to load and update the contact information. Then replace the old SIM card and wait for two minutes for S600 to delete old contact information completely.

15-8 S600 User Manual TroubleshootingRF Exposure Information (SAR)This model phone meets the government’s requirements for exposure to radio waves.This phone is designed and manufactured not to exceed the emission limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy set by the Federal Communications Commission of the U.S. Government.The exposure standard for wireless mobile phones employs a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit set by the FCC is 1.6W/kg. *Tests for SAR are conducted using standard operating positions accepted by the FCC with the phone transmitting at its highest certified power level in all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR is determined at the highest certified power level, the actual SAR level of the phone while operating can be well below the maximum value. This is because the phone is designed to operate at multiple power levels so as to use only the poser required to reach the network. In general, the closer you are to a wireless base station antenna, the lower the power output.The highest SAR value for the model phone as reported to the FCC when tested for use at the ear is 0.226W/kg and when worn on the body, as described in this user guide, is 1.02 W/kg (Body-worn measurements differ among phone models, depending upon available enhancements and FCC requirements).While there may be differences between the SAR levels of various phones and at various positions, they all meet the government requirement.The FCC has granted an Equipment Authorization for this model phone with all reported SAR levels evaluated as in compliance with the FCC RF exposure guidelines.
