1. Gener al Infor mation
Welcome to the w or ld of Car bonado Rugged phones. This phone w or ks as a Wi-Fi only device and
has an intuitive, featur e-r ich user inter face, w hich allow s you to make the best use of the available
functions
1.1 Phone Model Cover ed:
This user guide cover s the Car bonado UA400 phone model. The phone model name can be r ead on
the phone label under the batter y.
1.2 Net wor k Ser vices:
Your Car bonado device is equipped to w or k only for PoC ser vice w ith Wi-Fi netw or k. To make the
best of these ser vices, you must subscr ibe to the Wi-Fi ser vices thr ough Oper ator and obtain
instr uctions on how to use Wi-Fi on your device.

1.4 Safet y Guidelines :
Please r ead and under stand the follow ing safety guidelines befor e you use the phone. These
guidelines pr ovide details to enable you in oper ating your phone safely and confor m to any legal
r equir ements r egar ding the use of Car bonado phones.
Disposal of Stale Electr ical and Electronic Equipment
The symbol of the cr ossed-out wheeled bin indicates that within the countr y of the United
states of Amer ica, this pr oduct, and any enhancements mar ked with this symbol, cannot be
disposed as unsor ted waste but must be taken to separ ate collection at their end-of-life.
Disposal of Batter y
Please check local regulations for disposal of batteries. The batter y should never be placed in
municipal waste. Use a batter y disposal facility if available.

1.5 Pr ecaut ions t o Use t he Bat t er y:
A r echar geable batter y pow er s your device. Use the batter y only for its intended pur pose. Never
use any char ger or batter y that is damaged. If the batter y is completely dischar ged, it may take a
few minutes befor e the char ging indicator appear s on the display or befor e any calls can be made.
The full per for mance of a new batter y is achieved only after thr ee to four complete char ge and
dischar ge cycles. You can char ge the batter y sever al times but it w ill eventually w ear out. Unplug
the char ger fr om the electr ical plug and the device w hen not in use. Ensur e that you do not leave
the fully char ged batter y connected to a char ger . If left unused, a fully char ged batter y w ill lose its
char ge over time.
1.6 Bat ter y Replacement :
When the talk and standby times ar e noticeably shor ter than nor mal, r eplace the batter y w ith an
or iginal Car bonado batter y. If a r eplacement batter y is being used for the fir st time or if the batter y
has not been used for a pr olonged per iod, it may take a few minutes befor e the char ging indicator
appear s on the display or befor e any calls can be made.
1.7 Avoid High Temper at ur es:
If you leave the batter y in hot or cold places, such as in a closed car in summer or w inter conditions,
it will r educe the capacity and lifetime of the batter y. For best r esults, tr y to keep the batter y
betw een -20°C and +55°C (-4°F and 131°F). A device w ith a hot or cold batter y may not w or k
tempor ar ily, even w hen the batter y is fully char ged. Batter y per for mance is par ticular ly limited in
temper atur es below fr eezing.

1.8 Child Safet y:
Do not allow childr en to use your mobile phone or its accessor ies. Keep it out of their r each. They
could hur t themselves or other s, or could accidentally damage the mobile phone or accessor ies.
Your mobile phone and its accessor ies may contain small par ts, w hich could be detached and cr eate
a choking hazar d for your child.
1.9 Emer gency Calls:
Car bonado phones oper ate using Wi-Fi r adio signals, w hich cannot guar antee connection under all
cir cumstances. Ther efor e you should never solely r ely upon any mobile phone for essential
communications (e.g. medical emer gencies). Emer gency calls w ill not be possible as this is Wi-Fi
only device.

2. Get t ing St ar ted
The follow ing topics give you all the infor mation needed to set up your phone for the fir st time.
Set t ing Up Your Phone:
Refer to the follow ing sections to insert and char ge the batter y and set up the phone. To change the
batter y you can use the key supplied along w ith the device, in the absence of the key you can also
use scr ew dr iver .
Inser t ing t he Bat t er y:
Complete the follow ing steps to inser t a Car bonado batter y into your UA400 phone.
1. Rotate both batter y cover scr ew s in counter
clockw ise dir ection (as show n in the figur e).
You can use a key/ scr ew dr iver set.
Sometimes the scr ew s may be tight and
extr a effor t is r equir ed to open them.
2. Lift the batter y cover to view the
batter y slot.
3. Inser t the batter y and push it into the batter y
slot such that the thr ee metallic contacts at
the bottom of the batter y ar e aligned w ith the
metallic contacts w ithin
the batter y
compar tment.
4. Close the batter y cover . Rotate the batter y
cover scr ew s in clockw ise dir ection. You can
use a key/ scr ew dr iver to tighten the scr ew s.
Ensur e not to over tighten.

Removing t he Bat t er y:
Complete the follow ing steps to r emove the Car bonado batter y fr om your UA400 phone.
1. Rotate both batter y cover scr ew s in counter
clockw ise dir ection (as show n in the figur e).
You can use the key/ scr ew dr iver to open
the back. Sometimes the scr ew s may be
tight and extr a effor t is r equir ed to open
them.
2. Lift the batter y cover to view the batter y
slot.
3. Raise the upper end of the batter y fr om the
slot and r emove the batter y.
4. Close the batter y cover . Rotate the batter y
cover scr ew s in clockw ise dir ection. You can
use a key/ scr ew dr iver to tighten the scr ew s.
Ensur e not to over tighten.
Char ging t he Bat t er y:
The batter y pr ovided w ith your mobile phone does not come fully char ged. We r ecommend that
you char ge the phone at least for five hour s befor e you use it for the fir st time.
Note: With a fully char ged batter y, the phone can r emain in standby mode for up to 800 hour s. If
the batter y is completely out of char ge, the char ging icon appear s only after sever al minutes w hen
the char ger is connected.
Do not use an incor r ect batter y type as it may cause explosion.
Complete the follow ing steps to char ge the phone batter y.
1. Plug the char ger into a pow er outlet.

2. The char ger por t is located at the bottom of
the phone. To access the char ger por t, lift the
cover w ith the USB sign. Inser t the Micr o USB
connector into the por t and inser t the other
end of the USB cable into the char ger .
Alter natively, you can char ge the phone w ith
your PC. Inser t the Micr o USB connector USB
cable into the char ger por t of the phone and
inser t the other end of the cable into a USB
por t on your PC.
3. If the batter y is being char ged w hen the
phone is sw itched off, only the batter y icon
is displayed (as show n in the figur e).
If the batter y is being char ged w hile the phone is sw itched on, you w ill notice that the bar s
in the batter y char ge icon (visible on the home scr een) show movement indicating that the
batter y is being char ged. After the phone is fully char ged, the batter y bar s on the display
stop scr olling. At this point, you can disconnect the phone fr om the char ger .

3. Basics of your Phone
Your phone comes w ith featur es that simplify your life and expand your ability to stay connected to
the people as w ell as infor mation that ar e impor tant to you. Refer to the follow ing sections to
under stand the basic functions and featur es of your phone.
Car bonado UA400 Layout :
The Car bonado UA400 comes w ith a single LCD scr een. The TFT technology used scr een displays
262K color s. The Car bonado UA400 keypad has 11 function keys and 12 alphanumer ic keys. The
left side of the phone has one key for PTT application and the r ight side of the phone has thr ee keys,
tw in keys at the top ar e used to contr ol the volume and a single r ed key at the bottom used for
sending SOS . The batter y and the speaker ar e located at the back side of the phone. For mor e
infor mation r efer to the follow ing sections.

Pr ess and hold the Power ON/ OFF key pr ovided at the top for tw o seconds to pow er on the phone.
When the phone is sw itched on, it tr ies to r egister w ith the near by Wi-Fi netw or k. In some cases
you may have to pr ovide the Passw or d for the Wi -Fi connectivity that you w ant to choose. After
successful r egistr ation, the Wi-Fi symbol is displayed on the status bar at the top of your home
scr een .
Home Scr een Indicat or s:
The home scr een indicator s ar e visible in the status bar at the top of the home scr een w hen the
phone is in standby mode. Some icons indicate the status of cer tain functionalities of the phone, for
example, the batter y char ge indicator , the Wi-Fi netw or k status indicator , time etc. Some icons ar e
displayed only if the specific ser vices ar e activated.
