maintain the equipment according to the instructions contained in the operator's manual.

SET-UP
Gas and Oil Fill=Up

Useextremecarewhen handlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremely
flammableand thevaporsare explosive.Neverfuel the machine
indoorsor whilethe engineis hotor running.

NOTE:Yourlog splittermay be shippedwith motoroil in the engine.
You MUSTcheckthe oil levelbeforeoperating.Becareful notto
overfill.Gasolinecan be addedto the enginewhenthe log splitteris
in eitherthe horizontalor verticalposition.However,thereare less
obstructionswhenthe splitteris in the verticalposition.

1. Removeoil fill dipstick.

Checkthe oil level makingcertain notto rub thedipstickalong the
insidewalls of the oil fill tube. This wouldresultin a false dipstick
reading.Refillto the FULLmark on the dipstick,if necessary.
Replacethe dipstickand tighten.

If necessary,with the log splitteron levelground,usea funnelto
fill enginewith oil to the FULLmarkon the dipstick.Be careful not
to overfill.Overfillingwill causethe engineto smokeprofuselyand
will resultin poor engineperformance.

Checkthe oil levelthreetimesprior to startingtheengineto be
certainyou'vegottenan accuratedipstickreading.Runningthe
enginewith too little oil can resultin permanentenginedamage.

Replacethe venteddipsticksecurely,tighteningit untilthe top of
the threadsare flush with topof thepipe.
Disconnectthe sparkplug and primethe pumpby pullingthe
recoilstarteras far as it willgo. Repeatapproximately10times.
Reconnectthe spark plugwire and start theenginefollowingthe
instructionsin the Operationsection.
Usethe controlhandleto engagethe wedgeto thefarthest
extendedposition.Thenretractthewedge.
Refillthe tank as specifiedon the dipstick.

Gasoline
1. Removethe fuel cap fromthe fuel tank.
2. Makesurethe containerfrom which youwill pour thegasolineis
cleanand freefrom rust or foreignparticles.Neveruse gasoline
that may be stale from long periodsof storagein its container.
Gasolinethat hasbeen sittingfor anyperiod longerthanfour
weeksshouldbe consideredstale.
3. Fillthe fuel tank with about 1.5quartsof clean,freshgasolinewith
a minimumof 85 octane.

NOTE: Neveroverfillthe fuel tank.Fill tank to no morethan 1/2 inch
belowbottomof filler neckto providespacefor fuel expansion.
PREPARING
THE LOG SPLITTER

The max recommendedoperatingpressureis 30 psi. Donot, under
any circumstances,exceedthe manufacturer'srecommendedpsi.
Maintainequal pressureon all tires.

NOTE: Failureto refillthe tank will voidthe splitter'swarranty.

air trappedin the system(the systemis "self-bleeding").
10. Refillthe reservoirwithin the rangemarkedon the dipstick.
NOTE: Somefluidmay overflowfromthe vent plug as the system
buildsheatand thefluid expandsand seeksa balancedlevel.
Tire Pressure

Lubricatethe beamarea (wherethe splittingwedgewill slide)with
engineoil. Do notuse grease.
Removethe vented reservoirdipstick,which is locatedin frontof
theengine on top of the reservoirtank. See Figure6.

NOTE:The log splitteris filledto the properoperatinglevelfrom the
manufacturerwith ShellTellus®32 HydraulicFluid.However,you
MUSTcheckthe fluid levelbeforeoperating.If not filled,proceedwith
thefollowingsteps:

Makecertainto refillthe reservoirto preventdamageto the hydraulic
pump.

Thestop switch is usedto turnoff the engineand must
be pushedbackto the ON positionbeforethe enginewill

Checkthehydraulicfluid levelin the log splitterreservoirtank before
eachuse. Maintainthe fluid levelwithinthe rangespecifiedon the
dipstickat all times.
Changethe hydraulicfluid in the reservoirevery 100 hoursof operation. Followthe stepsbelow:
1. Disconnectthe suctionhosefromthe bottomof the reservoirtank.
2. Carefullyunthreadthe inletfilter and clean it with penetratingoil.

Makecertainto readjusttheadjustmentbolts so the wedgemoves
freely,butno excessspaceexistsbetweenthe wedgeplateand the
