Standard 457kHz Avalanche Transceiver Funtionality
Independently of the availability of W-Link data, your transceiver will always operate as a
normal 457kHz avalanche transceiver in transmit and receive mode.
US, Canadian and New Zealand Version (W-Link Region B)
Please note that the W-Link frequency used in Europe is different than that used in North
America and New Zealand. Furthermore the American Federal Communications Commission
(FCC) specifically prohibits that the customer can choose the W-Link region on his or her
own, except for disabling the W-Link completely. If you own a PULSE Barryvox®purchased
in North America or New Zealand and need to use your device in Europe, you can have the
European W-Link configuration activated by an official Barryvox Service Center.
European Version (W-Link Region A)
The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) allows the customer to choose
the W-Link frequency on his or her own. If you have a European W-Link configuration, you
can choose in the settings whether your device should operate in the W-Link region A or B,
or if W-Link should be completely disabled.
Japanese Version
Please note that the W-Link function is not allowed in Japan. When using your PULSE
Barryvox®outside of Japan, you can have the appropriate W-Link configuration activated by
an official Barryvox Service Center.
How to modify the W-Link setting of your PULSE Barryvox®
To access the «Settings», switch the transceiver from OFF to SEND, wait for the «Group
Check» message to appear at the bottom of the screen and then press any key. The confir-
mation «activated» appears at the bottom of the screen. Wait until the start menu appears.

the -key. Press the -key, to get to the menu item «W-Link». Confirm your selection by
pressing the -key. Press the -key, to choose the appropriate W-Link setting (see «W-
Link World Map»). Confirm your selection by pressing the -key.
Barryvox®W(ireless)-Link
Your Barryvox®has a W-Link communication channel that allows data communication between
W-Link capable avalanche transceivers. The W-Link channel allows the exchange of vital data
(PULSE Barryvox®only), providing faster
and more reliable multiple burial data as well as the
communication with the W-Link based test and configuration
adapters.
The W-Link channel is
completely separate from the primary 457kHz functions of the transceiver. Without W-Link
data available, your transceiver will still operate as a normal 457kHz avalanche trans-
ceiver in transmit and receive mode. Due to differences in country specific communication
laws and frequency usage, the W-Link configuration is different in different countries.
W-Link World Map
Different countries have varying frequency regulations. The following world map shows the fre-
quencies used in the individual countries. Note that specific frequencies may not be used in
certain countries. The frequency is factory set depending on the country of sale. The man-
ufacturer declines all liability in the case of after-sale frequency modifications.
Frequency setting:
Region A / W-Link Frequency Band 868 MHz [= light grey]
EU- and EFTA-Member Countries
Region B / W-Link Frequency Band 915 MHz [= dark grey]
USA, Canada and New Zealand
W-Link not allowed [= black]
Japan, Russia, India, China

PULSE Barryvox®and ELEMENT Barryvox®are designed for ski, snow board,
snowshoe, and snowmobile travel off maintained trails. All winter sport activi-
ties are inherently dangerous. Knowledge and experience are essential to
reduce the risk of injury or even death. Do not enter avalanche terrain without
an experienced guide or equivalent training. Apply common sense at all times.
Never pursue these activities alone.

Barryvox Emergency Plan
The emergency plan shows the elementary steps for a suc-
cessful companion rescue.
Depending on the situation at hand, the procedure must be
adapted.
Stick the emergency plan on the back of the battery com-
partment lid.
Periodic Checks and Preventative Maintenance
To ensure the proper performance of the transceiver, it is highly recommended that you
send your device to a service center once every three years for a functional test.
To further optimize the safe application of the device, especially in institutional settings,
please refer to the application safety guide.
Warranty
There is a 5-year warranty on the Barryvox transceiver (excluding the batteries, the carrying
system, and the wrist loop) from the date of purchase shown on the purchase receipt. In case
of a warranty claim, all parts that can be shown to have material or production defects will be
replaced free of charge. Damage due to incorrect handling or normal wear and tear is excluded.
The warranty is voided if the buyer or any non-authorized third party opens the device. This is
also the case for devices that have been used with spare parts or accessories, which are not
original and are not recommended by the manufacturer. A fee will be charged for the diagnostic
test of a transceiver not needing any repair. Warranty repairs do not extend the duration of the
warranty. There is a six-month warranty on spare parts. Warranty repairs will only be conduct-
ed if the device is sent in along with the receipt. The owner will be charged for the shipping.
No other warranty shall exist. Any liability for any kind of loss or damage including but not lim-
ited to any direct, indirect or consequential damage is explicitly excluded.
