Let’s go Enable security Basics You will need to enable security the first time you power on your phone or within 10 days of first activation of your phone. About this guide 1 Press Ok. This guide shows how to locate a menu feature as follows: 2 You are prompted to enable security. Press Yes and follow the on-screen instructions. Find it: Menu / > T Settings > Phone Calls 3 Press End/Power @ to return to the home screen. 1 Press the Menu key / to open the main menu. This means that, from the home screen: 2 Press the Navigation Key to scroll to the T Settings menu option and press the OK key r to select it. 3 Press the Navigation Keys to scroll to Phone Calls, and press the OK key r to select it. Basics Home screen indicator Your phone shows the home screen when you are not on a call or using the menu. %' Active Phone Line—Shows if phone line one or two is active. Speaker On—Sounds associated with PTT calls, SDG calls, and Talkgroup calls are set to come through the speaker. Speaker Off—Sounds associated with PTT calls, SDG calls, and Talkgroup calls are set to come through the earpiece. Ringer Off—Phone is set not to ring. Vibrate All—Phone is set to vibrate for all incoming calls, messages, and notifications. No Service—Phone is in area with no service coverage. New Message—Phone has a new text message. Packet Data—Phone is ready to transfer packet data. Soft key labels in the home screen show the current soft key functions. Indicators at the top of your phone’s display provide important status information, such as incoming calls, missed messages, and other conditions. Here are the indicators you may see: indicator Signal Strength—Shows the strength of the network connection. Basics 2 Highlight the position on the Carousel menu you would like the application to occupy and press r. indicator Battery Level—Shows battery charge level. The more bars, the greater the charge. Bluetooth On—Bluetooth power is On. New Voicemail Message —Phone has a new voicemail message. 3 Highlight an application and press r to select it. Auto hide To set the Carousel menu to hide when not in use, press Menu / > T Settings > Personalize > Carousel > Auto Hide. Adjust volume Carousel menu Press the volume keys up or down to: Get quick access to your favorite applications, right on your home screen. • change the earpiece volume during calls Open applications • change the ringer volume from the home screen 1 Press the Navigation Key left or right until you highlight the desired application. 2 Press to r launch the application. Note: Availability of the Carousel menu feature is dependent on your service provider. Choose applications You can customize the Carousel with your most often used applications. 1 Press Menu / > T Settings > Personalize > Carousel. Basics • turn off a call alert before answering the call Tip: You can quickly set your ringer to Vibrate All by holding down the volume key while on the home screen. Navigation key Press the Navigation Key up, down, left, or right to scroll to items in the display. When you highlight the desired item, press r to select it. Transmitters Consult airline staff about the use of the Transmitters Off feature during a flight. Turn off your phone whenever instructed to do so by airline staff. For best results, use the optimization and phone setting. They generally apply as well for users with cochlear implants. Optimize your phone position and orientation While on a phone call slide your phone up and down, then left and right until best microphone coupling is obtained. You also may need to adjust your hearing aid (HA) volume setting. If your HA has a telecoil, activate its switch, then also rotate the phone as illustrated to align the telecoils. Transmitters Off turns off your phone’s calling and Bluetooth features in situations where wireless phone use is prohibited. You can use the phone’s other non-calling features when the transmitters are turned off. Find it: Menu / > T Settings > Advanced > Transmitters > Off Features for the hearing impaired Use your phone with a hearing aid Note: Your phone has a hearing aid rating of M_. For more information, see “Hearing Aid Compatibility with Mobile Phones” on page 67. Note: Some automatically switched hearing aids may need an auxiliary switching magnet. If you are unsure whether your HA is telecoil equipped or needs an auxiliary magnet, please refer to your HA Basics user guide or contact a hearing aid professional or supplier. Approximate telecoil location is within 6-13 mm of this location Off - Shut off M - Microphone T - Telecoil TTY features turn on TTY feature Press Menu / > T Settings > Phone Calls > TTY > Use TTY > On. choose TTY mode Press Menu / > T Settings > Phone Calls > TTY > Type > TTY, VCO or HCO. change the TTY baud rate Approximate telecoil location is just above battery Press Menu / > T Settings > Phone Calls > TTY > Baud > 45.45 or 50.00. Choose your hearing aid setting change TTY mode during a call Find it: Menu / > T Settings > Phone Calls > Hearing Aid While in a TTY call, press Menu / > In Call Setup > TTY > Type > TTY, VCO or HCO. The Microphone option optimizes your phone for microphone coupling. The Telecoil option meets the US federal requirements for telecoil coupling. The factory default setting for this feature is Off. 10 Basics Calls it’s good to talk Note: You can’t make any other phone calls during a three-way call, even if one party hangs up. Make & answer calls Redial Enter a number, then press Talk `. To redial your last outgoing call, press and hold Talk ` or, if your last call was a PTT call, press the PTT Button. To answer a call, press Talk `. Unanswered calls To end a call, press End/Power @. If you receive a phone call and press End/Power @ before it goes to voice mail, you can send an automatic text message to the other caller. Any key answer To answer phone calls by pressing any key on the keypad, press Menu / > T Settings > Phone Calls > Any Key Ans > On. Find it: Menu / > T Settings > Phone Calls > Busy Text Response options Call waiting Off Turn feature off. To accept the second call and put the active call on hold, press Yes. Soft Key Press Send Msg to send text message. To accept the second call and end the active call, press Talk `. Automatic Send message automatically without being prompted. Three-way calls To start a conference call, call the first number. After they answer, press Menu / > 3 Way. Enter the second number. When the next number answers, press Menu / > Join. Calls 11 Call forward Speed dial Call forwarding sends calls to the phone numbers you specify. You can forward all calls to one number, or forward missed calls to different numbers depending on the reason you missed the call. You can forward phone lines one and two independently. Each phone number stored in Contacts is assigned a specific speed dial number, which you can use to call that number. Find it: Menu / > T Settings > Call Forward 1 From the home screen, use the keypad to enter the speed dial number assigned to the phone number you want to call. To forward all calls select All Calls, then select To and enter the phone number you want all you call forwarded to. 2 Press #. You can also specify a forwarding number for each type of missed call by selecting Detailed and choosing from the following options: Turbo dial options If Busy When your phone is on a call or transferring data. If No Answer When you don’t answer on the first four rings. If Unreachable When your phone is out of coverage or powered off. 3 Press Talk `. The first nine entries in your contacts are set for turbo dial. They can be called by pressing and holding the speed dial number (1 through 9). Voice names You can place calls by speaking commands to your phone if you have previously assigned a voice name to your contacts. Assign voice names to contacts 1 Press Menu / > F Contacts > [New Contact]. 2 Assign a name, phone number and select [Options]. 3 Select Voice Name and follow the prompt to record the voice name. 12 Calls 4 Press Back and then Save. Place a call using voice name compose a message to the caller by pressing Create. You can also edit the Contact by highlighting it and pressing Menu / > Edit. Press and hold the Speaker key ) until you are prompted to say the voice name. The phone will automatically place the call. The Recent Calls list also contains Push to Send items associated with PTT calls you have made or received, such as: Handsfree • contact information Note: Using a mobile device or accessory while driving may cause distraction and may be illegal. International calls If your phone service includes international dialing, press and hold 0 to insert your local international access code (indicated by +). Then, press the keypad keys to dial the country code and phone number. Your phone number Find it: Menu / > Tools > My Info Emergency calls Note: Your service provider programs one or more emergency phone numbers (such as 911 or 112) that you can call under any circumstances, even when your phone is locked. Emergency numbers vary by country. Your pre-programmed emergency numbers may not work in all locations, and sometimes an emergency call cannot be placed due to network, environmental, or interference issues. 1 Enter the emergency number. 2 Press Talk ` to call the emergency number. Note: Emergency calls cannot be placed while the keypad is locked, or if your phone is displaying a No Service message on the screen. To unlock the keypad, press Menu / > *. Note: Your mobile device can use AGPS satellite signals to help emergency services find you (see “GPS & AGPS” on page 64). 14 Calls Cool down In very limited circumstances, such as where your phone has been exposed to extreme heat, “Cool Down” message screens will appear. To avoid possible damage to your battery and phone, you should follow these instructions until the phone is within its recommended temperature range. When your phone is in “Cool Down” mode, only emergency calls can be made. Push-to-Talk One touch PTT one or more, talk to them all You can customize the PTT Button for quick access to push-to-talk functions from the home screen. Private calls Find it: Menu / > Push To Talk > PT Manager > Configure > One Touch PTT Private calls are push-to-talk calls between two people. Make and answer private calls options To make a private call: Off Turn off One Touch PTT. • Enter the recipient’s PTT number. Quick PTT • Press Menu / > F Contacts, and select a contact that has a PTT number. Go to Quick PTT. See “Quick PTT” on page 16. Last Call Call the most recent Private ID or SDG list on the Recent Calls list. To talk, press and hold the PTT Button. To listen, release the PTT Button. PTT Contacts Launch the PTT Contacts list from the home screen by pressing the PTT Button. Assigned No. Call a Private ID you assigned. Enter the number using your keypad, or press Search and select from Contacts, Recent Calls, or Memo. PT Manager Go to the PT Manager. See “PT manager” on page 16. To answer a private call, press the PTT Button after the caller has stopped talking. To end a private call, press End/Power @ or do nothing. The call will end after a few seconds.
