Basics Here’s a few essentials: Basics About this guide Touch the Menu icon to open the Main Menu. Flick the menu screen to change pages of menus, then touch the icon to select the item. Touch the Right Soft Key on the screen to go back to the previous level. This guide shows how to locate a menu as follows: Find it: Touch Menu icon> More >Call log > Received calls. Touch the Menu icon to open the Main Menu. Touch the icon of Call log. Touch Received calls to select the received calls. Turn it on/off Touch and hold the Power Key for a few seconds to turn the phone on/off. If prompted, enter your unlock code to turn it on. Activate SIM cards Your phone supports the Dual SIM cards mode, enabling you to use two SIM cards at the same time without changing them. Basics When two SIM cards are both installed, you can activate both SIM cards or one of them except in the flight mode. Find it: Touch Menu icon > Flick the menu screen to Menu 1 > More > Settings > Dual SIM settings. Note: If only one SIM card is installed, this SIM card would be activated as default. Access the main menu 1 From the home screen, touch the Menu icon to open the Main Menu. You can flick the menu screen to change pages of menu among Menu1, Menu2, Menu3, Menu4 and Menu5. You can touch the Right Soft Key on screen to move up to the previous level. You can also press the Home Key to return to the home screen anytime. 10 Calls It’s good to talk. Calls Make calls From the home screen, Touch to open a virtual keypad. Enter a number and touch the Call/Answer Key . Note: If the Dual SIM Open mode is activated, you must choose which SIM card as voice call. Answer calls Touch the Call/Answer Key on screen when your phone rings or vibrates. End a call Touch the End Key on screen when your phone rings or vibrates. Redial a number 1 From the home screen, touch the Menu icon to open the Main Menu. Touch the icon of call log to view the history of calls. You can select to redial a number from Missed, Dialled or Received calls. 11 Calls Note: If the Dual SIM Open mode is activated, you must choose which SIM card as call history and voice call. Go handsfree During an active call, touch the icon of handsfree to turn the handsfree speaker on. To turn the handsfree speaker off, touch the icon of handsfree again. You can also use a wired headset to go handsfree. Note: The use of handfree speaker while driving may cause distraction. Discontinue a call if you can’t concentrate on driving. Additionally, the use of wireless devices and their accessories may be prohibited or restricted in certain areas. Always abide by laws and regulations on the use of these products. Speed dial You can set the speed dial to call the entries in your phonebook. Find it: Touch Menu icon> Phonebook > Options (Left soft key on screen)> Phonebook settings >Speed dial. 12 Select Status to switch it on, then select Set number. Scroll to the speed dial number (2-9) you want to set, then touch Edit. Calls Scroll to the desired contact and touch To call speed dial entries, touch and hold the single-digit speed dial number for a few seconds. Note: Speed dial 1 is reserved for calling your voicemail. In-call options During an active call, you can access the in-call options by touching icons on screen,including Call on hold, loudspeaker, keypad and contacts,or you can touch Options: • Hold Single Call: put a call on hold. • End Single Call: end a call. • New Call: make a new call during an active call. • Phonebook: shortcut to phonebook menu. • Sound Recorder: record your conversation during an active call. • Mute: Mute your voice during an active call. • DTMF: swith DTMF (Dual Tone Multi-Frequency) tone dialing system. 13 Calls Note: This is the standard main menu layout. Your phone’s menu may be different. Emergency calls To call an emergency number, enter the emergency number and touch the Call/Answer Key. Your service provider programs one or more emergency phone numbers, (such as 112 or 911), that you can call under any circumstances, even when your phone is locked. Emergency numbers vary by country. Your phone’s pre-programmed emergency number(s) may not work in all locations, and sometimes an emergency call cannot be placed due to network, environmental, or interference issues. 14 Contacts Meet someone new? Save their names. Contacts Save a contact 1 From the home screen, touch to open a virtual keypad. Enter a number. Touch Options Contact. Enter the contact name and details, and touch Options > Save. > Save to Phonebook > Add New Call a contact 1 From the home screen, touch to open the phonebook. 2 Scroll the list to highlight a contact. 3 Select the contact and touch the Call/Answer Key. Note: If the Dual SIM Open mode is activated, you must choose which SIM card as voice call. Tip: Your phone calls all contacts’ default numbers. If you have stored more than one number for a contact, select the contact to see other number(s). To dial a number, scroll to it and touch the Call/Answer Key on screen. 15 Customize Create your personal style. Customize User profiles Your phone has different profiles. You can customize ringtones, alerts, and volumes for each profile. Touch Menu icon > Setup menu (Drag bottom) > Profiles. down to the • General: Standard profile as default setting. After activating this profile, your phone shows an indicator . • Slient: Vibrator and ringtones are set to be off. After this profile is activated, your phone shows an indicator . • Outdoor: The Volume of ringtone and key tone is set to maximum. After this profile is activated, your phone shows an indicator . 16 Customize • My style: You can set your desired ringtones and alert types when using My style. Touch Menu icon > Drag Setup menu down to the bottom > Profile > My style >Options on screen > Customize to set your desired ringtones and alert types. • Alert Type: Select an alert type (Ring only, Vibrate only, Vibrate and Ring, Vibrate then ring). • Ring Type: Select a ring type (Repeat, Ascending, Beep once). • SIM1 incoming call, SIM2 incoming call, SIM1 message, SIM2 message: Set the ringtones of incoming call and messages respectively for two SIM cards. You can also select different ringtone types for power on/off. • Ringtone volume, Message volume: Adjust ringtone volume and message volume. • Other tones: Change tones of Keytone, Power on, Power off and System alert. 17 Customize Display settings You can set display settings such as Wallpaper, Screen Saver and Main Menu Style. Find it: Touch Menu icon > Setup menu > Phone Settings > Display. Find it: Touch Menu icon > Setup menu > Layout setting. Find it: Touch Menu icon > Setup menu > Theme. Date & time You can set date, time, time zone and format. Find it: Touch Menu icon > Setup menu > Phone Settings > Time and date. Language You can set menu language. Find it: Touch Menu icon > Setup menu > Phone Settings > Language. Note: This is the standard main menu layout. Your phone’s menu may be different. 18 Text Entry Give you comfortable and quick typing. Text Entry With your phone’s touch screen, you can enter text or numbers and create messages or notes. After you enter the text input field, an indicator at the top left of the display shows the text input mode you are currently using. You can change the text input mode by touching Options (Left soft key on screen) > Input method. Use the following keys to access functions: • To delete letters, touch the Back Key screen. on • To enter a space, enter the Space Key • To start a new line, touch the Enter Key . first, then touch • To enter a capital letters, touch the Caps Key .To enter the small letters, touch the • To insert symbols, touch Options > Insert symbol. Messages Create & send a message Find it: From the home screen, touch Menu, then choose Write message. to open Message To enter a message, touch the screen, then use the virtual keypad to enter text or numbers. To insert pictures, audioes, videoes or objects, touch Options or the shortcut on screen. When you finish the message, touch Options > Send to or shortcut on screen. You can enter one or more recipients or choose recipients from your phonebook. Read messages When you receive a message, your phone plays an alert and shows a message indicator in the middle of the screen. To read a new message, touch View in the message notification area. You can read all received messages in your inbox by touch Menu icon > Message> Inbox. 20 E-mail It’s good to E-mail. E-mail Set up an e-mail account Find it: Touch Menu icon > Email. Enter your e-mail address, touch Options > Next to set Protocol, Data account, Incoming server, Outgoing server, User name, Password and Account name. In Email, select the e-mail address you want to activate, then touch Options > Connect. To add another new account, touch Options > Email accounts > Options > New account. Note: E-mail service depends on your e-mail and phone network service providers. Create & send e-mail Find it: Touch Menu icon > Email> Options > Write Email. To edit the subject and the content, use the virtual keypad to enter text or numbers. To add a picture or a file, touch Options > Add attachments or shortcut on screen. When you finish the e-mail, touch Options >Send. 21 E-mail Scroll to one of the recipients and touch Options >Send.You can touch Options > Change Type.to set the type of recipients as To, Cc and/or Bcc. Tip: You can save an e-mail draft you are composing and then finish and send it later. Touch Options > Save to Drafts. An e-mail draft is stored in Drafts. Create & add an e-mail signature Find it: Touch the Main Menu icon > Email > Options> Email accounts. Scroll to the account for which you are creating the signature, then touch Options > Edit > Advance settings > Signature. Read E-mails When you receive an e-mail message, your phone plays an alert and shows a message indicator at the top of the screen. To read new e-mail, touch View in the E-mail notification area. You can read all received E-mails in your inbox by touching Menu icon > Email. Select an e-mail account and touch Inbox. 22 Bluetooth Connect your phone and other devices. Bluetooth Your phone supports Bluetooth wireless pairing (also called linking or bonding). You can pair your phone with a Bluetooth headset or car kit. Note: The use of wireless devices and their accessories may be prohibited or restricted in certain areas. Always abide by laws and regulations on the use of these products. Note: Bluetooth - indoor use only in France. Turn Bluetooth power on and off Find it: Touch Menu icon > Setup menu > Connection > Bluetooth. Touch Power to switch Bluetooth on / off. After Bluetooth is turned on, your phone shows an indicator at the top of the display. If Bluetooth Power is On, your phone can automatically pair with the handsfree device you have used before. Just turn on the device or move it near the phone. Note: To extend battery life, use the previous procedure to set Bluetooth Power to Off when it is not in use. It will not pair with devices until you set Bluetooth Power back to On. 23 Bluetooth Pair with a handsfree device Before you try to pair your phone with a device, make sure your phone’s Bluetooth Power is On and the device is on and ready in pairing or bonding mode. Put the device (handsfree headset, stereo headset, car kit, etc.) in pairing mode. Touch My devices > Search new device. Your phone can search and list the devices it has found within range. Select the device from the list, and then touch Connect. If prompted, enter the device passkey and touch Send objects to another device You can use Bluetooth pairing to send contacts, tasks, calendar items, audioes, pictures, videoes, and voice notes from your phone to another device. Select the object you want to send. To cancel sending an item, touch Cancel. 24 Touch Options > Send> Via Bluetooth. Select the device from the list, then sending will automatically start. Mobile TV Watch your favorite programs! Mobile TV The TV antenna is located inside your phone. To receive better TV signal, stretch out the TV antenna. Touch TV key to open Mobile TV. Your phone will show Local Setting to let you select your located region for channel scanning. Touch Channel Scan to search for available channels. Touch the screen to switch to full screen mode. Control menu Settings Set options such as Channel Scan, Local Setting, Caption, Parenetal Rating, etc Display Channel List and Program Guide Options Move up to the previous channel Previous Move down to the next channel Next Channel Note: Available programming and networks may vary depending on your service provider or region. ATV function does not support in USA area. Note: Always retract and store the aerial after use, especially when making or receiving calls. This will maintain compliance with RF exposure (SAR) guidelines and help protect your aerial. 25 Camcorder Capture your colorful life! Camcorder Take a photo 1 To open the camera viewfinder, you can touch Menu icon > Flick the menu screen to Menu 2 > More >Camera. Touch the Camera Key to take a picture. Your phone saves the picture and shows it in the camera viewfinder. You can find your stored pictures by touching Switch to photo album. Note: Before taking your photo, you can touch to adjust picture settings, such as Capture m ode, Image size, White balance, Effects, etc. 26 Camcorder Record a video clip 1 To open the video viewfinder, you can touch Menu icon > Flick the menu screen to Menu 2> More >Camera. Touch the Camcorder Key You can find your stored videos by touching Menu icon > Flick the menu screen to Menu 1> File Manager > Phone or Memory Card, then select the folder that contains the stored videos. to start recording a video. Audio Player Playlists Create a playlist Find it: Touch Menu icon > Flick the menu screen to Menu 2 > More > Audio Player > Playlists > Options > New. Enter a name for the playlist, then touch Options > Done. Open the playlist you want to edit, then touch Options > Add to add music files from your phone or your memory card. Play a playlist In Playlists, touch the playlist you want to play, then touch one of the songs. In Playlists, open the playlist you want to play, then select one of the music files. Use these keys to control Audio Player: Controls previous song next song 28 touch touch Audio Player Controls play / pause touch volume touch the sideVolume keys up or down or Delete a playlist In Playlists, scroll to the playlist you want to delete, then touch Options > Delete. Player settings When using the media player, you can touch Options > Settings > Player Settings to set these options. • Shuffle: Set all songs play shuffled or one by one. • Repeat: Repeat all songs or one selected song. • Sound effects: Set your desired equalizer modes such as Bass, Classical or Party. • Bass Enhancement: Switch the effect of bass enhancement. 29 FM Radio Listen to your favorite channels. FM Radio Plug a wired headset into your phone. Note: The FM radio works only when a headset is plugged in. Touch Menu icon >Flick the menu screen to Menu 2 > More > FM radio. Use these keys to control the radio: Controls tune in a station touch or previous or next available station touch or turn off the radio touch volume touch the Volume keys (on the right side of your phone) Touch Options to set these options: • Loudspeaker: Turn on/off the loudspeaker. • Channel list: Bookmarks for up to 30 radio channels. • 30 Manual input: Key into a channel frequency. FM Radio • Auto Search: Automatically search for available radio channels and store them to the channel list. • Settings: Change record format, audio quality, and record storage. • Record: Record your favorite radio programs. • File List: Manage the previous recorded files. 31 Web Surf your favorite web sites. Web Surf web sites Find it: Touch Menu icon >Flick the menu screen to Menu 4 > Browser. To go to a Web page, input the URL. To bookmark a Web page, touch Manage. > Bookmarks > To change displays settings like Zoom and Load Images, touch > Settings. To go to a link on a Web page, touch it. Note: If you can’t connect, contact your service provider. 32 Personal Organizer Manage your life with these handy tools. Personal Organizer Calendar Find it: Touch Menu icon > Flick the menu screen to Menu 1 > More > Calendar. Touch Options to add, delete or view events. You can set six types of events including Reminder, Meetings, Course, Date, Call and Anniversary. More details of the first coming event in the calendar will appear in Menu1. Tasks Find it: Touch Menu icon >Flick the menu screen to Menu 1> More > Tasks. Alarms Find it: Touch Menu icon > Flick the menu screen to Menu 1 > Alarm You can set the FM radio as your alarm tone by touching Edit > Alarm Tone > FM radio. 33 Security Keep your phone secure! Security Lock & unlock the phone You can lock your phone to keep others from using it. Find it: Touch Menu icon> Flick the menu screen to Menu 1 > More > Settings > Security settings > SIM1/2 security setting. Touch SIM lock to turn this lock on. The Lock code is provided by your network service provider. In Security Setting, you can change the password by touching Change Password > SIM1/2 PIN. Lock & unlock the keypad You can lock the keypad to prevent any unwanted phone operations. Touch the Power/Lock key on the right side of your phone to lock the keypad. To unlock, touch the Power/Lock key, then drag from the top to the bottom of the screen. 34 Troubleshooting We are here to help. Troubleshooting Crash recovery In the unlikely event that your phone stops responding to touches and key presses, try a quick reset. Remove the back cover and battery, then replace them and turn your phone on as usual. Reset Find it: Touch Menu icon > Flick the menu screen to Menu 1> More > Settings > Restore factory settings. Your phone will be reset to factory settings, and all data in your phone will be deleted. 35 Legal, Safety & Regulatory Legal, Safety & Regulatory Battery Use & Safety Important: Handle and store batteries properly to avoid injury or damage. Most battery issues arise from improper handling of batteries, and particularly from the continued use of damaged batteries. DON’Ts • Don’t disassemble, crush, puncture, shred, or otherwise attempt to change the form of your battery. • Don’t let the phone or battery come in contact with water. Water can get into the phone’s circuits, leading to corrosion. If the phone and/or battery get wet, have them checked by your carrier or contact Motorola, even if they appear to be working properly. • Don’t allow the battery to touch metal objects. If metal objects, such as jewelry, stay in prolonged contact with the battery contact points, the battery could become very hot. • Don’t place your battery near a heat source. Excessive heat can damage the phone or the battery. High temperatures can cause the battery to swell, leak, or malfunction. Therefore: • Do not dry a wet or damp battery with an appliance or heat source, such as a hair dryer or microwave oven. • Avoid leaving your phone in your car in high temperatures. DOs • Do avoid dropping the battery or phone. Dropping these items, especially on a hard surface, can potentially cause damage. • Do contact your service provider or Motorola if your phone or battery has been damaged from dropping or high temperatures. Important: Use Motorola Original products for quality assurance and safeguards. To aid consumers in identifying authentic Motorola batteries from non-original or counterfeit batteries (that may not have adequate safety Battery Use & Safety 36 protection), Motorola provides holograms on its batteries. Consumers should confirm that any battery they purchase has a “Motorola Original” hologram. Motorola recommends you always use Motorola-branded batteries and chargers. Motorola mobile devices are designed to work with Motorola batteries. If you see a message on your display such as Invalid Battery or Unable to Charge, take the following steps: • Remove the battery and inspect it to confirm that it has a “Motorola Original” hologram; • If there is no hologram, the battery is not a Motorola battery; • If there is a hologram, replace the battery and retry charging it; • If the message remains, contact a Motorola authorized service center. Important: Motorola’s warranty does not cover damage to the phone caused by non-Motorola batteries and/or chargers. Warning: Use of a non-Motorola battery or charger may present a risk of fire, explosion, leakage, or other hazard. Proper and safe battery disposal and recycling: Proper battery disposal is not only important for safety, it benefits the environment. Consumers may recycle their used batteries in many retail or service provider locations. Additional information on proper disposal and recycling may be found on the Web: • www.motorola.com/recycling • www.rbrc.org/call2recycle/ (in English only) Disposal: Promptly dispose of used batteries in accordance with local regulations. Contact your local recycling center or national recycling organizations for more information on how to dispose of batteries. 032375o Warning: Never dispose of batteries in a fire because they may explode. 37 Battery Charging Notes for charging your phone’s battery: • When charging your battery, keep it near room temperature. Never expose batteries to temperatures below 0°C (32°F) or above 45°C (113°F) when charging. • New batteries are not fully charged. • New batteries or batteries stored for a long time may take more time to charge. • Motorola batteries and charging systems have circuitry that protects the battery from damage from overcharging. Battery Charging Specific Absorption Rate (ICNIRP) SAR (ICNIRP) Your model wireless phone meets international guidelines for exposure to radio waves: Your mobile device is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed to not exceed the limits for exposure to radio waves recommended by international guidelines. These guidelines were developed by the independent scientific organization ICNIRP and include safety margins designed to assure the protection of all persons, regardless of age and health, and to account for any variations in measurements. The guidelines use a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). Hearing Aid Compatibility with Mobile Phones Some Motorola phones are measured for compatibility with hearing aids. If the box for your particular model has “Rated for Hearing Aids” printed on it, the following explanation applies. When some mobile phones are used near some hearing devices (hearing aids and cochlear implants), users may detect a buzzing, humming, or whining noise. Some hearing devices are more immune than others to this interference noise, and phones also vary in the amount of interference they generate. The wireless telephone industry has developed ratings for some of their mobile phones, to assist hearing device users in finding phones that may be compatible with their hearing devices. Not all phones have been rated. Phones that are rated have the rating on their box or a label on the box. The ratings are not guarantees. Results will vary depending on the user’s hearing device and hearing loss. If your hearing device happens to be vulnerable to interference, you may not be able to use a rated phone successfully. Trying out the phone with your hearing device is the best way to evaluate it for your personal needs. M-Ratings: Phones rated M3 or M4 meet FCC requirements and are likely to generate less interference to hearing devices than phones that are not labeled. M4 is the better/higher of the two ratings. T-Ratings: Phones rated T3 or T4 meet FCC requirements and are likely to be more usable with a hearing device’s telecoil (“T Switch” or “Telephone Switch”) than unrated phones.
