EkoTek is a battery operated mesh networkbased on the 802.15.4 standard which can beeasily implemented within a building withoutrouting wires. EkoTek provides two-waycommunication to user devices, allowing them toraise an alarm and receive messages from teammembers to know help is on the way. Call FobThe call fob allows an assistance call to begenerated either by the user pressing a button,or automatically by the dead-man or man-downfeatures. Accurate location information isregularly obtained from the repeater networkand relayed to teams for immediate assistance. EkoTek PagerThe pager is a multi-functional device, displayingreceived messages with acknowledgement, plusthe ability to generate an alarm from the button, snatch cord (panic), dead-man or man-downfeatures. Its display shows alarms from otherpagers and call fobs, allowing the user to acceptthe alarm and signal back to confirm thatassistance is on its way. Two Levels of AlarmFor both the EkoTek pager and fob there aretwo levels of alarm.Emergency Alarm:lRed button: Single or double press raises analarm with escalationlMan-down: On suffering a fall, an alarm israised with escalationlDead-man: Raises alarm if no response isreceived to a scheduled request (withescalation)lSnatch Alarm (pager only): Raises alarm ifpager is snatched from cordAssist Alarm:lLow priority alarm to call for assistance (noescalation)1HubThe hub is the system’s central control unit, displaying assistance call messages, the callinguser and location. Device configuration can bechanged using a PC running web browsersoftware such as Internet Explorer. Network anddevice data can be collected. Pager messages, production of groups of pagers and locationdisplay allow call fob or pagers users to belocated.EkoTek systems can be extended usingSynchronized Ethernet Repeaters (SERs).
