For example, near a bathtub, kitchhen sink, laundry tub,, or near a swimmingg pool. Also, do not exposse the equipment to rain r or damp areas (ee.g. a wet basement) . Do noot connect the power supply cord on elevaated surfaces. Allow it to lie freely. There should be no obstrucctions in its path and no heavy items shouuld be placed on the cord. In adddition, do not walk onn, step on or mistreat the cord. To saffeguard the equipmeent against overheatinng, make sure that alll openings in the unit that offer exposure to air are unobstructeted. WARNINGG Disconnecct the power line from m the device before seervicing. Transp T port and a Handlinng Wheen transporting the 3GG27WV-R, it is recom mmended to return thee product in the origiinal packaging. This ensures the product will not be damagedd. In the event the product needss to be returned, ensuure it is securely pacckaged with appropriaate padding to preveent damage dduring courier transpoort. YMLL38 wwww.netcommlimited.coom 3G27WV-R Useer Guide Innstallaation and Config C guratiion off the 33G27W WV-RR Plaacement oof your 3G227WV-R Just like your mobile phoone, the 3G27WV-R’s location will affect itss signal strength to thhe Rogers Mobile Baase Station (Cell Toweer). The data speed aachievable from the 3G27WV-R is relativee to this signal strength, whicch is affected by many environmental factors. Please keep in mmind that the 3G27WVV-R will need adequaate signal strength inn order to provide Inteernet connectivity whhilst chooosing a location to plaace your 3G27WV-R. are to your 3GG27WV-R. Your wireless connection and Similarly, the wireless connnection between yoour 3G27WV-R and yoour Wi-Fi devices willl be stronger the closser your connected devices perfoormance will degradee as the distance bettween your 3G27WV--R and connected deevices increases. This may or may not be directly noticeable, aand is greatly affecteed by the individual instaallation environment. If you have concerns aboout your network’s peerformance that mighht be related to rangee or obstruction factors, try moving the computer to a position between three to fivee meters from the 3G27WV-R in order to seee if distance is the problem. Please notee: While some of the items listed below can affect network perfformance, they will noot prohibit your wireleess network from m functioning; if you are concerned that your y network is not opperating at its maximum effectiveness, this checklist mayy help. Please ensuree that your 3G27WV-RR’s 4G external antennna is positioned verttically (toward the ceiling). W Devices and yoour 3G27WV-R, pleasse try the following steeps: If you experience difficultties connecting wirelessly between your Wi-Fi In m multi-storey homes, place the 3G27WV-R on a floor that is as cclose to the centre of the home as possible. This may mean plaacing the 3G27WV-RR on an upper floor. Try nnot to place the 3G277WV-R near a cordless telephone that opeerates at the same raadio frequency as thee 3G27WV-R (2.4GHzz). Avvoid obstaccles and innterferencee Avoid placing your 3G277WV-R near devices that t may emit radio “noise,” such as microowave ovens. Densee objects that can inhibit wireless communnication include: Refrigerators Wasshers and/or dryers Metaal cabinets Largge aquariums Metaallic-based, UV-tintedd windows If your wireless signal seems weak in some sppots, make sure that objects such as thosse listed above are not blocking the signaal’s path (between yoour devices and the 3G27WV-R). Coordless Phoones If thee performance of youur wireless network iss impaired after considering the above isssues, and you have a cordless phone: Try m moving cordless phoones away from your 3G27WV-R and yourr wireless-enabled coomputers. Unplug and remove the battery from any corddless phone that opeerates on the 2.4GHz band (check manufaacturer’s information)). If this fixes the probblem, your phone maay be WV-R. interrfering with the 3G27W If your phone supports channel selection, chaange the channel on the phone to the fartthest channel from yoour wireless network. For example, changge the phone to channel 1 and move your 3G27WV--R to channel 11. Seee your phone’s user mmanual for detailed innstructions. If neecessary, consider swwitching to a 900MHzz or 5GHz cordless pphone. Chhoose the ““Quietest” Channel foor your Wirreless Netwwork In locations where homess or offices are closee together, such as appartment buildings orr office complexes, thhere may be wirelesss networks nearby thaat can conflict with your wireless network. Use S Survey capabilities found in the Wireless Utility of your wirreless adapter to locaate any other wirelesss networks that are available (see your wiireless adapter’s user manual), and switch the Site yourr Router and computeers to a channel as faar away from other neetworks as possible. Expeeriment with more thaan one of the available channels, in order to find the clearest cconnection and avoidd interference from neeighbouring cordlesss phones or other wirreless devices. 3G277WV-R User Guide YML38 www.netcommlimiteed.com WV-R 3G27W Haardware insstallation 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Attach the suppplied antenna to thee port marked 4G Anttenna. [This should bbe attached in a clockkwise direction.] Insert your SIM M card (until you hear a click) into the SIM M slot. For voice funcctionality, connect a standard Analog telephone to the port labbelled Line 1 using the RJ-11 Cable providded. Connect the ppower adapter to the Power socket on the back of the 3G27WVV-R. If required - Too activate jacks in yoour home or office connect an RJ-11 cablee from the port labelled Line 2 to any wall jack. Plug the poweer adapter into the waall socket and switch on the power. Wait approxim mately 60 seconds forr the 3G27WV-R to power up. Coonnecting vvia a cablee 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Connect the EEthernet cable provided to the port marked LAN at the back off the 3G27WV-R. Connect the oother end of the yelloww Ethernet cable to your y computer. Wait approxim mately 30 seconds forr the connection to esstablish. Open your Weeb browser and type http://192.168.1.1 intto the address bar annd press enter. Follow the stepps to set up your 3G227WV-R. After the setupp process is completted, you will be conneected to the Internet. Coonnecting wwirelessly 1. 2. Ensure Wi-Fi iss enabled on your deevice (computer/laptoop/Smartphone). Scan for wireleess networks in your area and connect to the network name thhat matches the Wireless network name foound on the Wirelesss Security Card (incluuded in the box). Figure 1 - Inccluded Security Card Please notee: For security purposses, each 3G27WV-RR has a unique SSID ((such as ROGERSXXXXX) and Wireless Seecurity Key. The incluuded Wireless Security Card lists these insstead of the xxxxx’’s shown in the screeenshot above. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. After the setupp process is completted, you will be conneected to the Internet. To connect addditional devices via WiFi, W repeat steps 1 through 4. YMLL38 wwww.netcommlimited.coom 3G27WV-R Useer Guide 10 3G277WV-R User Guide 11 YML38 www.netcommlimiteed.com 3G27WV-R First Time Simple Configuration Wizard When you log in to your Rocket™ Hub for the first time, you will be presented with the Rocket™ Hub “Set-up Wizard” as shown in the screenshot below. This wizard can be skipped by clicking on the link shown on the screenshot below. You can re-run the Setup Wizard again anytime after first use by selecting the “Startup Wizard” option under the “Administration” tab in the Advanced View of the management console. YML38 www.netcommlimited.com 3G27WV-R User Guide 12 Figure 2 ‐ Startup Wizard LLanguage, Time Zon ne and System Mon nitor Settings Select your Language Prreference, Time Zonee and whether you woould like to activate thhe System Monitor feeature and then click “Next” to continue; Please note: The System Monitor feature will regularly check the internet c onnection. If the specified failure count iss exceeded, the device will reset the MBB connection. Yoou can also choose a Periodic Reboot inteerval to force the 3G27WV-R to reboot after the sppecified period of timme. For more informattion on this and Systeem Monitor configuration options, please refer to t the System Monitoor configuration sectioon on page 53. Figure 3 - Startuup Wizard - Web Configurration Username and Password Settings This page allows you to ccustomize the usernaame and password reequired to administerr your 3G27WV-R. It isi recommended that you choose a uniquue password for addeed security. Please enter the username and passwword that you wish to use, or leave these fields unchanged to uuse the default usernname and password ofo admin. Click “Nextt” to continue. Figure 4 - Statartup Wizard - Wi-Fi Settinngs W settings. The next page allows youu to configure basic Wi-Fi Wirreless (Wi-Fi): Wi-FFi is set to “On” by deefault. Changing this option to “Off” will turn off the wireless feaature and you will nott be able to connect to your 3G27WV-R viia Wi-Fi. SSID Broadcast Naame (Max 32 Chharacters): 3G277WV-R User Guide 13 YML38 www.netcommlimiteed.com 3G27WV-R The SSID (Service Set Identifier) is the name of your wireless network. Use a unique name to identify your wireless network so that you can easily connect from your wireless clients. This field is case sensitive and can be up to 32 characters. You should change the default SSID for added security. SSID Broadcast: Select ‘Disable’ to hide the SSID of your 3G27WV-R. If disabled, other people will not be able scan and detect your 3G27WV-R’s SSID. Click “Next” to continue. Figure 5 - Startup Wizard - Wi-Fi Security Settings This page allows you to configure Wi-Fi security settings for your 3G27WV-R. Setting a strong wireless security level (such as WPA-PSK - AES) can prevent unauthorized access to your wireless network. Please enter the Security Key that you wish to use, or leave this field unchanged to use the default Security Key. Click “Next” to continue. Clicck “Back” if you want to make changes. Afterr clicking Finish, the 33G27WV-R will save your configuration annd reboot itself. Pleasse wait as this process takes about 2 minutes. You will be guidded back to the mannagement console onnce the process is complete. Open your weeb browser (e.g. Interrnet Explorer/Firefox/SSafari) and navigate to http://192.168.1.1 Enter the userrname and passwordd configured during thhe first time setup an d click submit. The default username adm min with a blank passsword if the details haven’t been customizzed. Click Login to continue. Please noote: If you forget the username and passwword you selected duuring the 3G27WV-R set-up process, holding the reset button ffor over 10 seconds will restart the unit wiith the original settings (username: admin / admin). You can also configure the connection operating mode. To configure your Internet connection, select the applicable Profile name and assosciated settings from the “Profile Name” pull down menu. You can then select from the following connection options: Always on Off Automatic 3G Backup When using the “Automatic 3G Backup” option, pick a high availability site as the address to test your 3G27WV-R’s connectivity with. In the event the primary WAN connection is unavailable, the 3G27WV-R will automatically swap to your configured 3G connection. If you make any changes to the settings, click “Save and apply changes” to make these changes active. OOPTION DEFINITION Wireless (WiFi) ONN/ OFF: Changing this optioon to Off will turn off the WiFFi feature on the 3G27WV-R and you will not be able to connect to your 3G27WV WV-R wirelessly. SSID Broadcast NName (SSID): The SSID (Service Set S Identifier) is the name oof your wireless network. Use a unique name to ident fy your wireless device so that you can easily connect to it from your wireless clientss. This field is case sensitivve and can be up to 32 chaaracters. SSID Broadcast: Select ‘Disabled’ to hide the SSID of your 3G227WV-R. If disabled, other people will not be able to easily e see your 3G27WV-R’’s SSID. To add wireless clients with broadcast disabledd, the SSID will need to be mmanually configured on eaach wireless client. Select the type of security in use for the WiFi nnetwork. Security Key Typee For more information please see the Wireless Security chapter on page 38. Security key: Enter your chosen Wireless Security key here.. The default WPA-PSK keyy is printed on the wireless security card and on the PProduct ID on the bottom of the 3G27WV-R. Please note that whilst the key caan be customized on this paage, the key will revert to thhe default if the 3G27WV-RR is reset to factory default. There are advanced settings available if desired which are accessible by viewing the advanced settings pages. Click “Switch to Advanced View” for configuring the advanced features of your 3G27WV-R. Status The status page provides system related information and is displayed when you login to the 3G27WV-R management console and switch to Advanced View. By default, the status page will show System Info, Local Network, WWAN, Connection Status and Ethernet Port Status. To view either WAN, PPPoE, PPTP status, Call-Forwarding rules or the Usage Monitor, click on their relevant links below the green menu bar. The sections are hidden by default, to view them all, click on the All Status button. Each section contains a breakdown of information relevant to the connection type or function. Rebooting or resetting your 3G27WV-R will not clear these statistics, you will need to click the “Reset Usage” link as shown above. This is to ensure your statistics are still correct in the event of an interruption to the power. Figure 24 - Advanced View - Advanced Routing Settings Advanced Routing – Static Static Routing allows computers that are connected to your 3G27WV-R to communicate with computers on another LAN segment which are connected to it via another router. To set a rule, you need to specify the following: Destination Range – Select from Host (255.255.255.255) or Net (and then enter the appropriate subnet mask) Gateway Interface Comment to identify the route entered (optional) Advanced Routing – Dynamic Dynamic Routing uses the RIP protocol to allow the 3G27WV-R to adapt to changes in the network. RIP enables the device to determine the best route for each packet based on the “hop count” or number of hops between Source and Destination. To enable Dynamic Routing, select Enable from the drop box and click Apply. SNMP Settings SNMP is used to display or collect data from the 3G27WV-R. Various system information including interface statistics, uptime, ane memory usage are available when viewed with an appropriate SNMP trap monitor. OPTION DEFINITION Network Mode; There are 5 modes to select from: 11b/g mixed mode: Both 802.11b and 802.11g wireless devices are allowed to connect to your 3G27WV-R. 11b only: Select this if all of your wireless clients are 802.11b. 11g only: Select this if all of your wireless clients are 802.11g. 11n only: Select this if all of your wireless clients are 802.11n. 11/b/g/n Mixed mode: Select this if 802.11b and 802.11g and 802.11n wireless devices are in your network. Network Name (SSID): The SSID (Service Set Identifier) is the name of your wireless network. Use a unique name to identify your wireless device so that you can easily connect to it from your wireless clients. This field is case sensitive and can be up to 32 characters. You should change the default SSID for added security. Frequency (Channel): This setting configures the frequency that the Wireless Radio uses for wireless connectivity. Select one channel that you wish to use from the drop down list. WDS Mode: WDS (Wireless Distribution System) is a system that enables the wireless interconnection of access points, and allows a wireless network to be expanded using multiple access points without a wired backbone to link them. A DTIM is a countdown informing clieents of the next window forr listening to broadcast and multicast messages Fragment Threshoold: This specifies thhe maximum size of a packket during the fragmentation of data to be transmitted. If you set this value too loow, it will result in bad perfoormance. RTS Threshold: When the packeet size is smaller than the RRTS threshold, the wireless router will not use the RTS/CTS mechanism to send tthis packet. AP Isolation: This feature allows you to isolate clients onn your wireless network. Too enable communication beetween the wireless clients connected to your 3G27W WV-R, select Disabled. To terrminate the communicationn between the wireless clients, please choose Enabled. TX Power: This determines the output power of the anntenna WMM Capable: WMM (WiFi MulttiMedia) if enabled, supporrts QoS for experiencing better audio, video and voicce in applications WMM Parameters: Click on the WM MM Configuration button to configure the WMM param meters Broadcast Networrk Name (SSID): Select ‘Disabledd’ to hide the SSID of your 33G27WV-R. When you first acccess the Internet, type 192.1668.1.1 into the addresss bar, the wizard will pop up to configuree your computer to connect with the securityy setting (please see the Quick Start Guide for more informatioon on connecting youur data devices to the Rockket™ Hub). Only people you allow accesss to, will be able to coonnect to the Rocket™ ™ Hub ensuring your connection is securre and safe. 12. Can I changee the name and passsword of my wireless network? Yes. You caan change your Rockket™ Hub settings froom the browser user interface by typing 192.168.1.1 into the addresss bar of your Web broowser. How do I shaare my Internet conneection, using the Roccket™ Hub, with otheer users? What is the ddifference between upload and downloadd speeds and why doo they differ? Upload is wwhen you send inform mation (e.g. emails) frrom your computer annd download is whenn you receive information via the Internet. The speeds at which upload and download ooperate depend on thhe way you use the Internett and the size of files you send and receivve. 15. Do I need to attach an antenna on this device? Yes. Your RRocket™ Hub comess equipped with an anntenna; you need to aattach the 4G antennna to get the 4G signal. 16. I have lost thhe security card that came c with the setup instructions. What caan I do? If you have lost your security card, and forgotten the wireless security deetails (SSID and WiFi network password), there is a label stuckk to the base of your Rocket™ Hub with aall your original securrity details. If the labeel is unreadable or haas been removed, thee WiFi network passwword can be viewwed/reset by logging in to the Managemeent Console using an Ethernet Cable connnected to the LAN poort of the Rocket™ Huub. 17. I forgot my M Management Consolee password. What can I do? If you have forgotten your Manaagement Console passsword and cannot a ccess the Web user interface, you will need too reset your Rocket™ Hub back to defaultt settings. To reset yoour device press andd hold the reset all the indiccator lights on the unit will flash when button on thhe back of your Rockket™ Hub for 10-15 seconds, your devicee is reset. No. The Rocket™ Hub is not eqquipped for international roaming or data sservices. Can I use a SSIM card from other carriers in the Rocket™ Hub?
