Page 1PIR-1 OWNER’SMANUALCongratulations! You’ve purchased a unique synthesis of hardware and software engi-neering, the PIR-1 Professional IR Learner. The PIR-1 is a power pro-fessional install tool that combines an IR code learner, IR codetransmitter (IR Tester), and an IR code detector into one package. When connected to a PC the PIR-1 will allow you to learn IRdatafrom any IR remote control into the Complete Control Program andAccelerator programming software. You can then test any IR codefrom the IR transmitter of the PIR-1 directly to a component. The PIR-1 can be used as a stand alone IR detector to see if IR infor-mation is being transmitted from any IR remote control. When an IRcommand is received by the PIR-1 the unit will make a beepingsound, letting you know that IR information is actually being sent.Replacing the BatteriesOpen the battery cover by pressing the release and pulling back thecover on the back of the unit. Please donot forcefully pull the battery cover as itis tethered to the PIR-1 body. Observethe + and – polarity indicators inside thebattery compartments as well as on thebatteries. Place the two AAA batteriesinto their positions. Now, replace thebattery cover by inserting the hinged andtethered end in first, then snapping thecover back into place.USB Portthe back of the PIR-1 you will find the USBport. Pull back the hinged rubber USB coverand connect the Mini-USB side of the USBcable into this port, and the other end of theUSB cable will connect into the computer. Inthe event that there are no batteries in the PIR-1 then the USB port from a computer can power the unit forLEARNING and TRANSMITTING IR commands only. When the PIR-1 is powered via USB then the IR “detecting” and all beepingsounds will be disabled.
Page 2PIR-1 OWNER’SMANUALBeep On/Off SwitchWhen the Beep switch is set to the “On” posi-tion, every received or transmitted IRsignalwill make a beeping sound. If you do not needthe Beep sound, move the switch to the “Off”position. Please keep in mind that Florescent /Incandescent Lights and Sun light can give offIR radiation, so it is not uncommon that thePIR-1 will beep from these sources. IR Signal IndicatorAt the top of the PIR-1 is an IR Signal Indicator. This Indicator hastwo functions. When testing/detecting IR codes, the IR Signal indi-cator will flash every time an IR signal is received provided that theBeep switch is set to “On.” When the Beep is set to “off”, the IR sig-nal will not flash. When the PIR-1 is connected to a PC, the IR sig-nal indicator will turn on when the PC is ready to learn a com-mand, and will flash once when the command was learned correct-ly. If the command was learned incorrectly then the LED will not-flash, and you will have to re-learn the IR code. The IR Signal indi-cator will also flash when testing an IR code from the PC.Learning TipsThe original remote’s distance to the PIR-1 should be between 1 to3 inches. Please place new batteries in the original remote you areattempting to learn to make sure the IR signal is strong.Learning should take place in a low lit room away from windows orflorescent lighting. If no response is received when attempting to learn, turn on theBeep setting, and check that the original remote is transmitting IR.The PIR-1 has an IR transmitter built in, so after a commandislearned it can be tested.
