Replacing the Batteries USB Port Beep On/Off Switch IR Signal Indicator Learning Tips Specifications USA Limited Warranty Statement Federal Communication Commission Interference Statement PIR-1 OWNER’SMANUAL Congratulations! You’ve purchased a unique synthesis of hardware and software engineering, the PIR-1 Professional IR Learner. The PIR-1 is a power professional install tool that combines an IR code learner, IR code transmitter (IR Tester), and an IR code detector into one package. When connected to a PC the PIR-1 will allow you to learn IRdata from any IR remote control into the Complete Control Program and Accelerator programming software. You can then test any IR code from the IR transmitter of the PIR-1 directly to a component. The PIR-1 can be used as a stand alone IR detector to see if IR information is being transmitted from any IR remote control. When an IR command is received by the PIR-1 the unit will make a beeping sound, letting you know that IR information is actually being sent. Replacing the Batteries Open the battery cover by pressing the release and pulling back the cover on the back of the unit. Please do not forcefully pull the battery cover as it is tethered to the PIR-1 body. Observe the + and – polarity indicators inside the battery compartments as well as on the batteries. Place the two AAA batteries into their positions. Now, replace the battery cover by inserting the hinged and tethered end in first, then snapping the cover back into place. USB Port the back of the PIR-1 you will find the USB port. Pull back the hinged rubber USB cover and connect the Mini-USB side of the USB cable into this port, and the other end of the USB cable will connect into the computer. In the event that there are no batteries in the PIR1 then the USB port from a computer can power the unit for LEARNING and TRANSMITTING IR commands only. When the PIR -1 is powered via USB then the IR “detecting” and all beeping sounds will be disabled. Page 1 PIR-1 OWNER’SMANUAL Beep On/Off Switch When the Beep switch is set to the “On” position, every received or transmitted IRsignal will make a beeping sound. If you do not need the Beep sound, move the switch to the “Off” position. Please keep in mind that Florescent / Incandescent Lights and Sun light can give off IR radiation, so it is not uncommon that the PIR-1 will beep from these sources. IR Signal Indicator At the top of the PIR-1 is an IR Signal Indicator. This Indicator has two functions. When testing/detecting IR codes, the IR Signal indicator will flash every time an IR signal is received provided that the Beep switch is set to “On.” When the Beep is set to “off”, the IR signal will not flash. When the PIR-1 is connected to a PC, the IR signal indicator will turn on when the PC is ready to learn a command, and will flash once when the command was learned correctly. If the command was learned incorrectly then the LED will notflash, and you will have to re-learn the IR code. The IR Signal indicator will also flash when testing an IR code from the PC. Learning Tips The original remote’s distance to the PIR-1 should be between 1 to 3 inches. Please place new batteries in the original remote you are attempting to learn to make sure the IR signal is strong. Learning should take place in a low lit room away from windows or florescent lighting. If no response is received when attempting to learn, turn on the Beep setting, and check that the original remote is transmitting IR. The PIR-1 has an IR transmitter built in, so after a command islearned it can be tested.
