Maintaining Your PrinterThis chapter provides suggestions for high-qualityand economical printing and information formaintaining the toner cartridge and the printer. Topics included in this chapter are:◆Toner Cartridge◆Cleaning the Printer◆Cleaning the LSU66
MA I N TA I N I N G YO U R PR I N T E R6.1Toner CartridgeDo not remove the toner cartridge from its packageuntil you are ready to use it.Toner cartridge storageThe life of the toner cartridge depends on the amountof toner that print jobs require. When printing text at 5% cove rage, a Samsung tonercartridge lasts an ave rage of 10,000 pages in simplexmode, depending on which toner cartridge is installed. This assumes that print D E N S I T Y and E C O N O m e n uitems are set to default.Toner cartridge life NotesTo prevent damage to toner cartridge, do not expose it to light. When toner is low, faded or light area might appearon a printed page. You might be able to temporarily improve print qualityby distributing the toner.Distributing the Toner
MA I N TA I N I N G YO U R PR I N T E R6.2Toner CartridgeWhen toner is low, faded or light areas may appear on a printed page. You may be able to temporarily improve print quality by redistributing thet o n e r. The following procedures may allow you to finish the current print jobbefore replacing the toner cartridge.Redistributing Toner1Open the top cover by pushingthe button on the side of thep r i n t e r.2Re m ove the toner cartridgefrom the printer.C A U T I O N S :• Avoid reaching too far intothe printer. The fusing areamay be hot.• To prevent damage to thetoner cartridge, do notexpose it to light for m o r ethan a few minute.
MA I N TA I N I N G YO U R PR I N T E R6.3Toner Cartridge3Gently shake the tonercartridge from side to side 5 or6 times to redistribute thet o n e r.4Reinsert the toner cartridgeinto the printer. Be sure thatthe toner cartridge is firmly inits place.5Firmly close the cove r.If the print remains light Re m ove the old cartridge andinstall a new toner cartridge. See “Installing Toner Cartridge” on page 2.3.Notes If the toner gets on yourclothing, wipe it off with a drycloth and wash clothing in coldwater. Hot water sets toner intof a b r i c.
MA I N TA I N I N G YO U R PR I N T E R6.4Cleaning the PrinterTo maintain print quality, you should clean the printer.• N e ver use alcohol or solvent based cleaning agents to clean the printeras they may damage the printer casing and components.• N e ver use a hard-bristled brush or abra s i v e pad. To clean your printer, proceed as follows.2Re m ove the paper from Multi-Purpose tray.3Open the top cover andr e m ove the toner cartridge.1Check that the printer is powered off and disconnected frompower point.
MA I N TA I N I N G YO U R PR I N T E R6.5Cleaning the Printer4Use a soft cloth to remove anyd u s t .5If the outer casing or the paper feed guides are dirty, clean themw i t h a soft, clean cloth, slightly dampened with a gentle detergent.6Clean the inside of the printer with a damp cloth.7Replace the toner cartridge, close the top cove r, plug in the powercord, and turn the printer on. Notes While cleaning the printer, be careful not to touch the transfer roller(the black, rubber roller, located under neath the toner cartridge). Skin oils on the roller can cause print quality problems.
MA I N TA I N I N G YO U R PR I N T E R6.6Cleaning LSU3Slide the LSU cleanerh o r i zontally across a track onthe top of the LSU.To obtain high quality from your printer, clean the LSU(Laser Scanning Unit)when characters have lines running through them.1Open the top cover and remove the toner cartridge.2Pull up on the LSU cleaner and put it on the LSU.Notes For more information on using method, seeattached label on the inside of the top cover.
