To get the best use of your headset, please take the time to read through this guide before you start to use it. Getting started This section explains what to remember for the proper use of your Bluetooth headset. Checking phone compatibility Your headset is compatible with most Bluetooth* phones that comply with Bluetooth version 2.0 or earlier and support Advanced Audio Distribution Profile, Audio/Video Remote Control Profile, Headset Profile and Hands-Free Profile. Check your phone's Bluetooth capability by visiting your phone manufacturer's website. Some devices, especially those that are not tested or approved by Bluetooth SIG, may be incompatible with your headset. * Bluetooth is a radio technology developed to connect devices, such as mobile phones and headsets, without wires or cords over a short distance of approximately 10 metres. More information is available at www.bluetooth.com English Checking the accessories Make sure you have the following items with your headset: Travel Adapter, User’s Guide The items supplied with your headset at Samsung dealer may vary depending on your region. Your headset overview REW button/ FF button Volume control buttons Reset Adapter socket Indicator light Play/Pause/ Stop button Microphone Talk button If your headset responds slowly, stops responding, or freezes, press the reset on the back of the headset with a pointed tool. Button functions Talk button In Standby mode • Press to redial the last number. For some phones, pressing this button opens the call log list. Press it again to redial the last number. • Press and hold to activate voice dialling. This function may be available depending on the type of your phone. When a call comes in • Press to answer the call. • Press and hold to reject the call. During a call • Press to end the call. • Press and hold to place the call on hold or retrieve the held call. • Press and hold to answer a second call. • Press and hold to switch between the current call and the held call. English In Connectable mode • Press to connect the headset to the phone, if they have been paired, via Hands-Free Profile. Volume control buttons • Press to adjust the speaker volume during playback. • Press to adjust the earpiece volume during a call. • Press and hold to turn off or on the microphone during a call. Play/Pause/Stop button In Standby mode • Press to launch the music player. When the music player is launched • Press to begin playback. • Press to pause or resume playback. • Press and hold to stop playback. In Connectable mode • Press to connect the headset to the phone, if they have been paired, via the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile. REW button • Press to skip backward. • Press and hold to scan backward in a file. FF button • Press to skip forward. • Press and hold to scan forward in a file. 1 Plug the travel adapter into the adapter socket on the headset. 2 Plug the travel adapter into a power outlet. The indicator light flashes red. When the battery is fully charged, the indicator light changes to blue. English Charging the headset This headset has a rechargeable internal battery which is nonremovable. Please make sure that you fully charge the battery before using the headset for the first time. • Disconnect the travel adapter from the power outlet and the headset after charging is complete. • Use only a Samsung-approved travel adapter. Unauthorised adapters may cause an explosion or damage to the headset. • The battery will gradually wear out while charging/ discharging because it is a consumable part. • The headset is available while charging. However, we recommand you to use the headset after charging is complete. If you are on a call, switch the call from the headset to the phone before the headset automatically turns off. 10 11 English Wearing the headset Place the headset on your ear. Be sure to put the correct (Left, Right) earpiece on each ear. Before using your headset This section explains basic operation and the set-up of your Bluetooth headset. Turning the headset on or off • Press and hold [ ] for 4 seconds to turn the headset on. The indicator light flashes blue 4 times. • Press and hold [ ] for 4 seconds to turn the headset off. The indicator light sequentially flashes blue, red. 12 1 Get your headset ready to be paired. There are 2 cases for being ready to be paired: • When turning on the headset for the first time. The blue indicator light remains lit. • When turning on the headset with pressing and holding [ ] for 8 seconds. The blue indicator light remains lit after the indicator light sequentially flashes blue 4 times. 2 Search for the headset on your phone according to the phone user’s guide. Your phone will find your headset’s name. 3 Select your headset’s name. 4 When the phone asks if you want to pair with it, confirm by selecting Yes or OK. 5 Enter the headset passkey or PIN, “0000 (4 zeros)”. 13 English Pairing the headset with a compatible phone Pairing will create a unique and encrypted wireless link between two Bluetooth enabled devices, such as a Bluetooth phone and a Bluetooth headset. To use the headset with other Bluetooth devices, both devices must be paired. When trying to pair the two devices, keep the headset and the phone reasonably close together. Connecting the paired headset to your phone If two Bluetooth devices are disconnected by a power failure, you need to reconnect them. When you reconnect a paired headset, you are not asked for its passkey. 1 Make sure that the headset is turned on. 2 Choose the connection method you want. • To connect from the phone, follow the phone user’s guide. • To connect from the headset, your phone and the headset have had to be connected more than once. Press [ ] to connect via Hands-Free Profile or [ ] to connect via the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile. 3 When the two devices are connected successfully, you can make or answer a call on the headset and listen to music. 14 English Using your headset This section explains how to use various functions, such as making or answering a call, using menus that you can use during a call is in progress, and listening to music. Activated functions may differ depending on the type of your phone. Please make sure that your phone supports all the functions that your headset provides before registering a fault. Using call functions Making a call Redialling the last number Press [ ] to redial the last number. For some phones, pressing the key opens the call log list. Press [+] or [-] to scroll through the list, and then press [ ] to dial the selected number. 15 Dialling a number by voice Press and hold [ ] to dial a number by voice, and say a name into the microphone. This function is available only when your phone supports the voice recognition function. Answering a call When a call comes in, you may hear incoming call tones and the indicator light will flash blue twice. Press [ ] to answer the call. Ending a call Press [ ] to end a call. Rejecting a call Press and hold [ ] to reject a call when a call comes in. This function is available only when your phone supports the incoming call rejecting function. 16 Using options during a call Adjusting the volume Press [+] or [-] to adjust the earpiece volume. At very high volumes, prolonged listening to the headset can damage your hearing. Muting the microphone Press and hold [+] or [-] to turn off the microphone so that the person with whom you are speaking cannot hear you. Press and hold [+] or [-] again to turn the microphone back on. Switching a call from the phone to the headset Press [ ] to switch the call from the phone to the headset. Placing a call on hold Press and hold [ ] to place the current call on hold. 17 English You can use the following functions to control your call during a call. Answering a second call Press [ ] or press and hold [ ] to answer a second call when you hear a call waiting tone. The first call is ended, press and hold [ ]. The first call is placed on hold, press [ ]. To switch between the current call and the held call, press and hold [ ]. Using music control functions Settings to play music files may differ depending on your Bluetooth phone. Please make sure that you create the proper settings for playback on your phone by following the phone user’s guide. Listening to music Press [ ]. The music player launches and sound output switches to the headset. For some phones, the phone may ask you if you want to listen to music via the headset. Confirm the message by selecting Yes or OK. Depending on the types of your Bluetooth phone, it may read MP3 files only. Make sure that you have the right file format (*.mp3). 18 Pausing and resuming playback ] to pause playback. 2 Press [ ] to resume playback. English 1 Press [ Stopping playback Press and hold [ ]. Listening to the previous or next file Press [ ] to skip backward or [ ] to skip forward. At very high volumes, prolonged listening to the headset can damage your hearing. 19 Answering a call while listening to music When a call comes in while listening to music, your headset will alert you so that you can answer the call. 1 When the headset sounds the incoming call tones and the indicator light flashes blue twice, press [ ]. The music stops and you are connected with the caller. 2 When you have finished the conversation, press [ ]. 3 Press [ ] to begin playback again. Some phones may automatically begin playback after a call. This function is available only when your phone supports the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile, Audio/Video Remote Control Profile, and Hands-Free Profile. Connecting the headset with other devices You can connect your headset to the phone and another Bluetooth device that plays music files. 1 Pair the headset with a phone. See page 13. 2 If successful, turn the headset off. 20 4 Search for and pair with the device you want according to the device user’s guide. 5 Press [ ] to connect with the paired phone. 6 When the phone and the device are successfully connected with the headset, you can make or receive a call once you have stopped listening to music. • Using call functions and music control functions may differ depending on the types of the phone and/or device. • There may be breaks in music being played on a Bluetooth-enabled PC. • You may not use the voice recognition function, although the phone supports it. 21 English 3 Turn on the headset with pressing and holding [ ]. The blue indicator light remains lit after the indicator light sequentially flashes blue, red, and purple twice. Appendix Storing the headset • Always store the headset with the power off. • Avoid storage at high temperatures (above 50 °C / 122 °F), such as in a hot vehicle or in direct sunlight. Storage at high temperatures can impair performance and reduce battery life. • Do not expose the headset or any of its supplied parts to rain or other liquids. Frequently asked questions How far away from my phone will my headset work? The operating range is typically up to 30 feet (10 metres). Will my headset work with my cordless phone at home? Your headset is not designed for use with cordless phones. 22 Your headset will work with devices that are compliant with Bluetooth version 2.0 or earlier and support Advanced Audio Distribution Profile, Audio/Video Remote Control Profile, Headset Profile and Hands-Free Profile. Will anything cause interference with my conversation when I am using my headset? Appliances such as cordless phones and wireless networking equipment may cause interference with your conversation, usually adding a crackling noise. To reduce any interference, keep the headset away from other devices that use or produce radio waves. Will my headset interfere with my car’s electronics, radio, or computer? Your headset produces significantly less power than a typical mobile phone. It also only emits signals that are in compliance with the international Bluetooth standard. Therefore, you should not expect any interference with standard consumergrade electronics equipment. 23 English Will my headset work with laptops, PCs, and PDAs? Can other Bluetooth phone users hear my conversation? When you pair your headset to your Bluetooth phone, you are creating a private link between only these two Bluetooth devices. The wireless Bluetooth technology used in your headset is not easily monitored by third parties because Bluetooth wireless signals are significantly lower in radio frequency power than those produced by a typical mobile phone. Can I use the headset while charging? Your headset is available while charging. However, we recommand you to use the headset after charging is complete. Making/receiving a call does not work well and the call ends often while talking. This is likely to be down to poor signal/ coverage from your mobile phone network. Please move to another area and try again. Battery operation time doesn’t match the one stated in the user’s guide. • The battery will gradually wear out because it is a consumable part. • If you place the battery in extreme heat or cold, the operation time is shortened. 24 Adjust the speaker volume, or move to another area and try again. Music files are not playing! Depending on the type of your device, it may not support all music formats. Please check that your music files are compatible with the device you are using. How do I take care of my headset? Wipe it with a soft dry cloth. The headset does not fully charge. The headset and the travel adapter may not have been connected properly. Separate the headset from the travel adapter and then reconnect and charge the headset. 25 English The sound is echoing while talking.
