About INSTEON Micro Shutter
Congratulations on your purchase of the INSTEON® Micro
Shutter! This compact module wires in behind an existing wall
switch to give you complete—and completely hidden—remote
control over your motorized window shutters.
Note: Installation should only be performed by a qualified
electrician or a homeowner who is familiar and comfortable with
electrical circuitry. If you have questions, consult an electrician or
call the INSTEON Support Line at 800-762-7845.

- Flathead screwdriver
- Philips screwdriver
- Wire cutter/stripper
- Voltage meter
Installing INSTEON Micro Shutter (Dual Momentary Switch)
1)

Before installing, write down Micro Shutter’s INSTEON I.D. (on sticker) for future reference.
Turn off breaker/fuse and verify that the power is off.
Remove wallplate and unscrew existing switch.

Gently pull switch out of wall and disconnect wires.2
5)
After ensuring that the wires are not touching, turn breaker back on.
6)
Use a voltage meter to identify the fixture’s Line, Load and Neutral wires.
7)
Turn off breaker again.
8)
Connect Micro Shutter wires as follows:
Micro Shutter
House
Terminal #1
Line (100-277VAC)
Terminal #2
Load (light, fan, etc.)
Terminal #3
Neutral
Terminal #4
Neutral
Micro Shutter
9)
Switch
Yellow wire
Momentary on/brighten
Purple wire
Momentary off/dim
Turn breaker back on.
Connected load will turn on and Micro Shutter’s LED will turn on green.
10) Test connection by tapping Micro Shutter’s on/off buttons.
Connected load will turn on and off and Micro Shutter’s LED will turn green (on) and red (off).
If multi-gang box, turn off all breakers/fuses that may be supplying power to the box.
If the wires cannot be detached, cut wires where they enter the switch and strip ½” of insulation off the ends.

11) If you are planning to manually link Micro Shutter to any INSTEON controllers, do so now (see Adding Micro
Shutter as an INSTEON Responder below).
12) Turn breaker off.
13) Place Micro Shutter in rear of wall box.
14) Remount switch in wall box.
15) Turn breaker back on.
Connected load will turn on at its previous state (prior to turning off breaker).
16) Test installation by tapping switch on and off.
Connected load will turn on and off.
17) Reinstall wallplate.
Adding Micro Shutter as an INSTEON Responder
We recommend using INSTEON SmartLinc and the free INSTEON iOS/Android smartphone and tablet app or home
automation software (such as HouseLinc) to add and monitor Micro Shutter on your home network. You can also add
Micro Shutter to your network manually by following the instructions below. Note: you must perform these steps
before reinstalling the wall switch.
1) Press and hold controller’s ON/scene button until it beeps.
Controller’s LED will start blinking green.
2) Adjust load connected to Micro Shutter to desired brightness level.
3)
Press and hold Micro Shutter’s Set button until it double-beeps.
4)
Controller will double-beep and its LED will stop blinking.
Test link by tapping controller’s ON/scene button on and off.
The load connected to Micro Shutter will turn on and off.
Adding Micro Shutter as an INSTEON Controller
We recommend using INSTEON SmartLinc and the free INSTEON iOS/Android smartphone and tablet app or home
automation software (such as HouseLinc) to add and monitor Micro Shutter on your home network. You can also add
Micro Shutter to your network manually by following the instructions below. Note: you must perform these steps
before reinstalling the wall switch.
1) Press and hold Micro Shutter’s Set button until it beeps.
Micro Shutter’s LED will start blinking green.
2) Adjust responder to desired state.
3)
Press and hold responder’s Set button until it double-beeps.
4)
Micro Shutter will double-beep and its LED will stop blinking.
Test link by tapping Micro Shutter’s paddle top and bottom to turn on/off.
The responder turn on and off.

this device does cause such interference, which can be verified by turning the device off and on, the user
is encouraged to eliminate the interference by one or more of the following measures:
• Re-orient or re-locate the receiving antenna of the device experiencing the interference.
• Increase the distance between this device and the receiver.
• Connect the device to an AC outlet on a circuit different from the one that supplies power to the
receiver.
• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician.
