Transferring contentto your new deviceTransferring content (such as contacts, messages,photos and video clips) to your new device cansometimes be complicated, but help is available. Youcan transfer content from several device brands,including iPhone, Samsung, HTC and Nokia. Youneed:•An Internet-connected PC or Apple® Mac®computer.•A USB cable for your old device.•A USB cable for your new Android™ device.•Your old device and new Android™ device.Get started transferring yourcontactsSony's migration wizard, called Xperia Transfer™,helps reduce the barriers that consumers face whenmoving the content (contacts, photos, video clips,messages, music and more) from their old phone totheir new Xperia® smartphone and is part of the latestversions of the PC Companion and Bridge for Macsoftware.If you are a PC user, use the PC Companion programto transfer your contacts. It's free, and the installationfiles are already saved on your new device. PCCompanion also offers a range of other features,including help to update your device software. ForApple® Mac® computer users, the Sony™ Bridge forMac application is available to help you transfer yourcontacts. It's also free and downloadable fromwww.sonymobile.com/support.To install PC Companion1New device: Turn on your new Android™ device andconnect it to a PC using a USB cable.2New device: Tap Install to install PC Companion onthe PC.3Computer: If a popup window appears to notify youabout available PC software, select Run Startme.exe.4Computer: Click Install to start the installation andthen follow the instructions to complete theinstallation.To install Sony™ Bridge for Mac1Using your Apple Mac computer, go towww.sonymobile.com/support, then search for anddownload the Sony™ Bridge for Mac application to afolder on the computer.2After the download is complete, open the folder anddouble-click the Sony Bridge for Mac.dmg file tostart the installation.3Follow the instructions on your Apple® Mac®computer to complete the installation.To transfer content to your new Xperia®smartphone1Make sure that PC Companion is installed on yourPC or that Sony™ Bridge for Mac application isinstalled on your Apple® Mac® computer.
2Connect your old device to your PC or Apple®Mac® and back up content following PC Companionor Bridge for Mac instructions.3Connect your new Xperia® smartphone to your PC orMac using the USB cable that came with thesmartphone.4Start the PC Companion or Bridge for Mac on yourcomputer and click Xperia Transfer™. Then theWelcome screen appears. Click Start.5Select the content you want to transfer and clickNext. The content of your old device is nowtransferred to your Xperia® smartphone.Backing up content of yourdeviceUse the Back up & restore application to makebackups of content to a memory card or a USB storagedevice. Such backups can be used to restore yourcontent and some settings in cases where your datagets lost or deleted.See the relevant section of the User guide for moredetailed information. Finding your wayHome screenThe Home screen is the starting point for using yourdevice. You can customise it with applications,widgets, shortcuts, folders, themes, and wallpaper.You can also add extra panes.The Home screen extends beyond the regular screendisplay width, so you need to flick left or right to viewcontent in all of the Home screen's panes.To go to the Home screen•Press  .Application screenThe Application screen, which you open from yourHome screen, contains the applications that come pre-installed on your device as well as the applications youdownload.The Application screen extends beyond the regularscreen width, so you need to flick left and right to viewall content.To open the Application screen•From your Home screen, tap  .To open an application•From your Home screen or the Application screen,tap the application.Status and notificationsThe status bar at the top of your screen shows what'sgoing on in your device. For example, new messageand calendar notifications appear here.
Checking notifications and ongoingactivitiesYou can drag down the status bar to open theNotification panel and get more information. Forexample, you can use the panel to open a newmessage or view a calendar event. If the recipient is not listed asa contact, enter the recipient's number manually andtap  .4When you are finished adding recipients, tap Done.5Tap Write message and enter your message text.6If you want to add a media file, tap   and select anoption.7To send the message, tap Send.Wi-Fi callingTo use Wi-Fi Calling you should use the SIM cardshipped with your device. A different SIM card maynot work with the Wi-Fi Calling feature. Also, youmust have a 911 emergency address registeredwith your account. Log into your account atwww.t-mobile.com. Go to your profile and clickCustomer Info to register your address.About Wi-Fi CallingWi-Fi Calling can improve your coverage and allowsyou to make phone calls and send messages over aWi-Fi network (when a Wi-Fi network is available).Unless your rate plan provides otherwise, Wi-Fi Callingminutes count the same as T-Mobile cellular callingminutes on your phone bill.Settings menuView and change settings for your device from theSettings menu.To access your device settings1From your Home screen, tap  .2Find and tap Settings.
Wireless Emergency AlertWireless Emergency Alert (“WEA”), also known asCommercial Mobile Alert System (“CMAS”), is apersonalized emergency alert system designed to alertyou of nearby threats or emergencies. Your phone iscapable of receiving three kinds of alert messages:•Presidential Alerts•Imminent Threats to Safety Alerts•Amber AlertsYour phone notifies you in the following ways:•Transmit a unique tone•Vibrate with a unique cadence•Display the alert messageOpt out of WEA alertsYou cannot turn off the Presidential Alert, but you canturn off the Imminent Alerts and Amber Alerts. To turnoff:1From your Home screen, tap  , then find and tap.2Tap  , then tap Settings > Emergency alerts.3Unmark the relevant checkboxes.Additional InformationThere is no additional charge to receive WEA alerts.Alerts may not be available: (1) while on active calls; (2)if a subscriber is outside the TMobile coverage area; or(3) due to interference concerns. You cannot forward orreply to WEA alerts. Currently, WEA alerts will only bein English (no other languages available). Occasionally,a duplicate of previously received alert may displayagain. TroubleshootingMy device is not respondingIf your device hangs, or if you cannot restart itnormally, you can force the device to shut down.To force the device to shut down121Detach the cover of the micro SIM card slot.2Using the tip of a pen or a similar object, press andhold down the OFF button until the device shutsdown.Do not use overly sharp objects that could damagethe OFF button.The device does not recognise mywired headset•Make sure the wired headset that you are usingcomplies to the CTIA standard. Your device supportsthe CTIA standard, and may not be fully compatiblewith other standards such as OMTP.•If you have a wireless headset that is compatible withyour device, try using that instead.My battery runs out quicklyThe following tips can help you improve battery life:•Use STAMINA mode to minimise batteryconsumption when the screen is inactive.•Disable all data connections over mobile networksto save power when you're not using the Internet.Doing so does not prevent your device fromtransmitting data over other wireless networks.•Turn off GPS, Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi® connectionswhen you don't need these features.•Lower the screen brightness level or turn off X-Reality for mobile.
