Hig htemperatur e can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries,an d distort or mel t plastic parts.IgnitionThe most commo n source of nois e in reception is the ignition system. This is aresult of the radio being placed close to the ignition system (engine) . This typ e ofnoise can be easily detected because it will vary in intensity of pitch with th espeed of the engine.Usually, th e ignition nois e ca n be suppresse d considerabl y by using a radiosuppressio n type hig h voltag e ignitio n wire an d suppressor resistor in theignition system. (Most vessel s employ this wir e and resisto r but it ma y benecessary to chec k them for correct operation.) Another metho d of suppressio nis the use of additiona l noise suppressors . These can be obtaine d from mos tCB/A radio or electronic supply shops .InterferenceRadio reception in a moving environmen t is very different from reception in astationary environment (home) . It is ver y important to understand th e di fference.AM reception will deteriorate when passing under a bridge or when passingunder high voltage lines . Although AM is subjec t to environmental noise, it hasthe ability to receive at great distance.
