To ensure the safe and effective operation of your Custom-Shape Wireless Dog Fence, please read and follow all
safety guidelines and instructions:
The Custom-Shape Wireless Dog Fence is designed for dogs older than 6 months that weigh more
than 8 pounds.
It is necessary to fully charge the system Controller and Batteries for 3 hours PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.
All Bases must be installed indoors and should not be exposed to moisture.
Each Base must be plugged into a properly grounded 120V AC outlet.
Changes or modifications to any system component may cause permanent system damage and will
void manufacturer warranties.
To prevent system damage due to unexpected power surges, it is recommended that you unplug the
Bases from the wall outlets during thunderstorms. All settings will be retained in system memory. Also do not
attempt to install the system during stormy weather.
To help prevent skin irritation and increase battery life, do not leave the Collar on your dog for more than
12 consecutive hours.
Always remove the Collar from your dog before adjusting any of the system components or settings.
The system is intended to provide safe containment of your dog. All components should be kept out of
the reach of children.
Follow your established leash laws. There may be cases where this system will be prohibited by law.

Bases is at the same relative height throughout the home, the intersection of the 3 spherical signals is known as trilateration.
As the Controller moves along the flag line, the Master Base records each trilaterated point of your wireless fence, thereby
memorizing the location of the entire fence. This process of memorization is known as event stamp mapping. It is also used
to record the location of Exclusion Zones. These enhancements comprise the core of the patented elements that provide an
unparalleled level of technical sophistication in the wireless dog fencing industry.
How it Works:
The Custom-Shape Havahart® Wireless System has the following key components: a Wireless Collar, a Controller and 4 Bases.
Each component contains an advanced transceiver that enables constant communication with each of the other components.
The Wireless Fence Tracker allows you to see the location of your wireless Fence Boundary and all System components. It also
aids in the installation and testing of your Fence Boundary. After accessing the the Wireless Fence Tracker on line , you use the
Controller to add each Base to the System. This allows the Bases to begin communication with each other and establish their
positions relative to one another. The Bases are represented by antennas on the Wireless Fence Tracker Screen. The Bases track
the position of the Controller wherever it goes. This allows you to create virtually any shape of wireless fence. With the Controller
in hand, you walk around your property to record your Fence Boundary. The Controller is represented by blue circles on the
Wireless Fence Tracker screen. After you have finished recording, your new Fence Boundary will be represented by a green line
on the screen of your Wireless Fence Tracker. The Bases will track the Controller again if you record Exclusion Zones.
After a Collar had been added to the system and fitted to
your dog, the Bases will track the real-time location of your
dog as it moves around in the Roaming Area. The Collar
will be represented by red circles on the Wireless Fence
Tracker screen. If your dog reaches the Fence Boundary or
an Exclusion Zone (a red circle touches the green line on
the Wireless Fence Tracker screen), the System will send a
command to the Collar to take action and correct (tone or
static - based on user settings). The green fence line on your
Wireless Fence Tracker will turn red if your dog breaches
the Fence Boundary. The correction is not constant. It is a
repetitive pulse. The Collar will correct your dog until one of
the following two conditions is met:
1. Your dog returns back into the Roaming Area. The
system then returns to normal operating mode.
2. The Collar’s Safety Time-Out Feature stops the correction cycle after 30 seconds. The red fence line on the Wireless Fence
Tracker will turn yellow when this happens. After the correction cycle times out, your dog will NOT be corrected for
returning to the Roaming Area. The Collar will revert to normal operating mode only when your dog is back inside the
Roaming Area. The yellow fence line on the Wireless Fence Tracker will also revert to green . After that, the Controller will
not send another correction command until your dog moves back to the Fence Boundary or an Exclusion Zone.
This first-of-its-kind, cutting-edge Custom-Shape Wireless Dog Fence gives you the advantage of allowing your dog to go to
the edge of your property while keeping him safe and out of designated areas.

Key Definitions:
Roaming Area: Area inside the Trigger Zone where your dog is free to roam and play. Capable of forming a Custom-Shape of up
to 500 feet in any direction.
Trigger Zone: The zone, which may be 6 to 13 feet wide, located at the edge of the Roaming Area that forms the fence
boundary. Correction is triggered by your dog crossing into the Trigger Zone which can be set to Tone Only (auditory alarm) or
static correction. The speed of your dog as he crosses the Trigger Zone will influence where the correction is delivered inside the
Trigger Zone.
Exclusion Zone: This is a targeted area where you wish to restrict your dog’s access, such as a large flowerbed, pool or patio. It
must be at least 12 feet by 12 feet wide. Also each zone cannot be located within
20 feet of another zone, Fence Boundary or Base.
Controller: Auditory alerts and the touch screen provide
intuitive navigation for setting up, activating and
managing your fence with ease. The
Controller houses a state-of-the-art
transceiver that enables
communication with the system. It will
notify you if your dog breaches the Fence
Boundary, if there is a problem with any of
the fence components or if the Battery life of the
Collar is running low. The Controller can manage up
to 2 Collars.
Bases: The system features a Master Base and 3 additional
Bases. Each Base houses a state-of-the-art transceiver that enables
the Bases to work together to determine the location of your dog while
in your yard.
Havahart® Wireless Collar: The comfortable, water-proof Collar houses a state-of-the-art
radio transceiver with advanced antenna assembly, a rechargeable RCR123 battery, and two correction Probes.
The Collar communicates continuously with the Bases to track the real-time location of your dog. The Collar can be
programmed to Tone Only (auditory correction) or one of 5 different static correction levels. The default correction level is
Tone Only. The Havahart® Wireless Collar features exclusive Integrated Motion Sensor Technology, which allows the Collar to
go to sleep when it is not in motion to conserve and optimize Battery life.
The Technology Behind the System:
The Custom-Shape Wireless Dog Fence is driven by nanoLOC TRX 2.4 GHz transceivers that have been enhanced with
complex algorithms, strategic distortion filtering and modular signal amplification to deliver advanced time-of-flight-ranging
technology and precision event-stamp mapping. Time-of-flight is the time it takes for a signal to travel from a Base to the
Collar and back at the speed of light. By continually ranging or communicating to the Collar to determine the time-of-flight,
each Base is able to track the real-time distance to your dog. When radio signals are sent from the antennas of the Bases,
they propagate in a spherical manner. At least 3 Bases providing 1 common point of intersection between 3 of their spherical
radio signals are needed to accurately pinpoint the real-time location of the Controller or the Collar. Because each of the

QUICK CHECKLIST
Installing the Custom-Shape Wireless Dog Fence
1
Position all 4 Bases at the far corners inside of your home and near a
power outlet (including the attached garage if it applies).
1. Install the Master Base A first. To identify it from the rest of
the Bases, the Master Base A is the only Base to have a USB port on
the bottom next to the power port.
2. Position the Master Base A in an interior corner wall near the
area where your dog spends most of his time outdoors (see
Illustration A). Make sure a power outlet is nearby.
3. Using the removable wall-mount adhesive strips or screw
& wall anchor, mount the Master Base A on the appropriate
wall, approximately 6 feet off the ground or at eye level
(see Illustration B). Do not plug in the Master Base A at
this time.
4. There is no difference between the other 3 Bases. Attach them
to walls in the remaining 3 corners, approximately 6 feet off the
ground or at eye level. Do NOT plug them in at this time.
The best choice to place your Bases is on windows or outer walls
in the furthest corners of your home, near 120V AC power
outlets, spaced as far apart as possible, but a minimum of 20 feet
apart. Increasing the distance between the Bases will increase their
tracking accuracy.
If Bases must be in the same area, such as a garage, it is better to
place Bases on adjacent walls than on the same wall.
Do NOT place the Bases within 3 feet of metal objects, such as
mirrors, microwaves, home appliances, an electric power meter,
air conditioning units, metal grates/fences, metal screened
porches, downspouts, large bushes or other objects immediately
outside the wall. Move the Bases so that they have the best
communication path to the outside.

To attach using the removable wall-mount adhesive strips:
Clean the surface of the desired location of the Base with isopropyl
rubbing alcohol, wipe gently with a soft cloth and let dry. DO NOT
USE household cleaners (see Figure 1.0).
Separate strips (if still connected) at the perforation.
Peel the liner from the back of one of the strips and attach it
vertically to the middle of the Base with the release-tab pointed
upward toward the antennas (see Figure 1.1a).
Connect another strip to the strip on the Base by pressing the
fasteners of both strips firmly together until they snap. The
release-tab on the other strip should point downward away
from the antennas - the opposite direction of the release-tab of
the strip on the Base (see Figure 1.1b).
Peel the liner from the back of the other strip and attach it to the
wall with the release-tab facing downward toward the floor and
the Base antennas facing upward toward the ceiling (see Figure 1.2).
To remove the adhesive strips:
Pull the Base gently from the wall by disconnecting the fasteners.
DO NOT pull the strips off the Base or the wall.
Start with the strip on the wall. Press one hand on the end of the
strip opposite the release-tab and use your other hand to pull
the release-tab slowly straight down against the wall, stretching it
at least 12 inches until the strip releases. Repeat for the strip
attached to the Base (see Figures 1.3a & b).

Activating the Bases (continued):
8. Your Bases should now be properly oriented on the Wireless Fence Tracker. As you look at your computer
screen the orientation of the Bases may look different than what you would expect. However, the
Bases should all be in the correct position relative to one another. Your on screen layout may make more
sense once you have recorded your fence.
The default scale for each large block is roughly 16 feet. The scale may change depending on the distance
between the Bases and the size of your Roaming Area. The larger the distance between the Bases or the
larger the size of your Roaming Area, the more the scale for each large block will decrease to allow you to see
your entire Fence Boundary.
Base Positions on the Wireless Fence Tracker:
The Master Base A will always appear at the intersection or crosshairs of the 2 bold lines.
Base B will always appear directly to the right of the Master Base A on the horizontal bold line.
Bases C will always be positioned clockwise from Base B.
Base D will always be positioned clockwise from Base C.
Please see the example illustrations for comparison to your layout.
Your on screen layout may make more sense once you have recorded your fence.
Activating the Bases:
1. Once all the bases have been attached to the walls and the
Wireless Fence Tracker has been accessed, it is necessary to
add the Bases, one at a time, to the System starting with the
Master Base A. Plug the Master Base A into the power outlet.
2. The indicator light will flash green to show that Master
Base A is powered on. Do not plug in the other Bases yet.
3. On the Wireless Fence Tracker, select “Start” to begin recording.
As you activate your Bases, they will move to their actual
locations on the screen.
4. Touch the screen of the Controller to turn it on and press
“Get Started” (see Screen 1.0).
5. Press “System” (see Screen 1.1).
6. Press “Complete” (see Screen 1.2) to add the Master Base A to the
System, and its indicator light will stop flashing green and turn
solid green.
7. Walk clockwise to the next Base to the right of the Master Base A and plug
it into a power outlet. This will become Base B. After the indicator light turns
green, press “Complete” on the Controller to add Base B to the System.
8. Walk clockwise to the remaining 2 Bases and repeat

What are Exclusion Zones (ExZones)?
Exclusion Zones are target areas on your property where you wish to
restrict your dog’s access, such as a flower bed, children’s play area,
pool or patio. Exclusion Zones are optional and may be added either
during or after the initial installation process. Up to 4 Exclusion Zones
can be created. The minimum size of an Exclusion Zone is 12’ x 12’.
Each Exclusion Zone cannot be located within 20 feet of another
Exclusion Zone, Fence Boundary or Base.
The following are examples of possible Exclusion Zones:

Placing Exclusion Zone Training Flags:
1. Similar to Fence Boundary training flag placement, place flags in the ground
six feet apart from one another to establish the desired Exclusion Zone
boundary. The blue flag is not required for Exclusion Zone boundary setup
(see Illustration G).
2. Using the Controller, select “ExZones” from the main menu (see Screen 4.2).
3. Select “Add ExZone” (see Screen 4.3).
4. Select the ExZone you would like to add ie. EXZONE1 (see Screen 4.4).
5. Once you have confirmed that all flags are in the proper position, press
“Complete” (see Screen 4.5).
NOTE : Make sure that there is at least 20 feet between different
Exclusion Zones and between Exclusion Zones and the Fence
Boundary and the Bases.

Because Exclusion Zones are smaller than your fence you must walk about 4 feet
or one pace inside the flag line. Make sure to keep the Controller between
your body and the Bases as your body may affect the signal and cause the
boundary to shift (see Factors Affecting Signal Strength on Page 36).
1. Starting about 4 feet or one pace inside the first flag, hold the Controller at
waist level, wait 5 seconds and press “Record” (see Screen 4.6). Walk at
a QUICK deliberate pace all the way around the inside of your Exclusion
Zone ending where you started. Slow down coming around corners. Stop
for 1 second at each corner if you want the system to make a sharp
corner point.
2. When you return to your starting point, press “Done” (see Screen 4.7)
and a Congratulatory screen will appear (see Screen 4.9). If unsuccessful,
an ExZone Error Screen will appear, directing you to repeat the process as
the signal may not have been properly received (see Error Screen 1.1).
You have the opportunity to name the Exclusion Zone now if you desire.
Otherwise, the Exclusion Zone will be given the default name of EXZONE1,
EXZONE2, etc.
3. Repeat this process to create additional Exclusion Zones on your property.
Recording an Exclusion Zone:
PAUSE FEATURE NOTE : During Exclusion Zone recording, you can
press “Pause” (see Screen 4.7) to stop, go around an object (such
as a tree, bush or other object), and record the Exclusion Zone
through the object. After you walk around the object, wait 5
seconds and then press “Continue” to continue recording your
Exclusion Zone (see Screen 4.8).

Installing a Battery:
1. Make sure a Battery is fully charged before installing it in the Collar
(see Recharging a Battery on Page 25). Turn the Battery Cap on the
Collar counterclockwise about 1/4 turn and pull it out. With the
positive side facing outward, install one rechargeable RCR123 Battery
into the Collar (see Figure 5.0). Replace the Battery Cap and turn it
clockwise to lock it in place.
2. The Collar will flash green. If it does not, shake the Collar gently as the
Collar is in sleep mode (see the Havahart® Wireless Collar Light Chart
on Page 25).
NOTE : The Collar is always “on” when a fully charged Battery is
installed. However, the Collar may be awake or asleep based on
Integrated Motion Sensor Technology. This technology allows
the Collar to conserve Battery life when appropriate by putting
the Collar to sleep. The Collar Light will not flash when the Collar
is asleep. Movement, such as gently shaking the Collar, will
awaken it and the Collar Light will flash green (see the Havahart®
Wireless Collar Light Chart on Page 25). The Collar Light will flash
red to indicate that the Battery needs to be recharged. The
Controller will also produce an auditory tone to alert you that
the Battery is low.

Testing the Trigger Zone :
To confirm that the location of the actual boundary is correct ,
test your Trigger Zone in 2 ways - It is necessary to perform both
steps for complete verification.
In both cases, make sure the Collar is set to Tone Only. Extend your
arm down by your side and hold the Collar by the Grey Battery Housing
so that you can see the Collar Light (see Figure 6.0). Make sure to
keep the Collar between your body and the Bases as your body
may affect the signal and cause the boundary to shift (see Factors
Affecting Signal Strength on Page 36).
Testing the Trigger Zone (continued):
Step 1
Walk a parallel path to your boundary, 10 feet inside the flag line, at
the same SLOW deliberate pace and in the same manner in which
you recorded the Trigger Zone while gently moving the Collar to keep
it awake.
The Collar alarm should not tone as you walk along the inside of your
boundary. If the Collar alarm tones during your Trigger Zone test, make a
note of the location and continue walking inside your Fence Boundary.
Once complete, look at the Wireless Fence Tracker. The path that
you walked should be represented by little red circles (see Figure 7.0).
The red circles should closely, but not perfectly run parallel to the green line.
If you notice any extreme dips, loops or crossovers in your fence, you may
want to Remove your Fence and re-record. In most cases you may need to
simply move flags one way or the other to be closer to the boundary
(see Wireless Fence Tracker Examples on Page 27). If the Fence Boundary
is still not within your level of tolerance and if re-recording does not solve
the problem (consult your Troubleshooting Guide), it may be necessary to
reposition one or more of your Bases so that there are less signal limiting
obstructions (see Page 8) between the Fence Boundary and your Bases (see
Factors Affecting Signal Strength on Page 36).
Step 2
Walk toward the boundary while gently moving the Collar to keep it
awake until the Collar beeps and the Collar Light flashes red. To confirm the
boundary location, step back until the Collar stops beeping and then walk
forward in the same direction until the Collar beeps and the Collar Light
flashes red again (see Illustration H).
Test the Trigger Zone in multiple locations.
If necessary, move the flags to the correct location. If not satisfied with the
location, you may need to Remove your Fence and re-record.
If you have any Exclusion Zones, perform similar Trigger Zone testing.
Removing a Collar:
1. To remove a Collar, select “Collars” from the main menu (see Screen 6.2).
2. Press “Remove Collar” (see Screen 7.7).
3. Press the Collar that you wish to remove (see Screen 7.8).
4. If you are certain that this is the Collar that you would like to remove,
press “Yes”. Press “No” to return to the previous selection screen
(see Screen 8.3). Select “No” if you picked the wrong Collar or if you have
changed your mind and you will be returned to the Collar selection screen.
5. Upon successful removal, you will be returned to the Collar selection
screen (see Screen 8.5).
6. Repeat this process to remove the other Collar.
HEART-SHAPED COLLAR TESTER NOTE : If you would like to confirm
that the Havahart® Wireless Collar will deliver a static correction
when crossing the Trigger Zone, you can use the Heart-Shaped
Collar Tester. Set the correction level to static level 1. Hold the metal
contact points located inside the holes of the Heart-Shaped Collar
Tester against the Probes of the Havahart® Wireless Collar so that
metal is touching metal. Carry the Havahart® Wireless Collar by the
Grey Battery Housing of the Collar with the Heart-Shaped Collar
Tester held against the Probes. Make sure that your body does not
get between the Collar and the Bases as your body may affect the
signal and cause the boundary to shift. Walk to a boundary point
and watch the Heart-Shaped Collar Tester illuminate. Remember to
set the correction level back to Tone Only before beginning training.

Fitting a Collar:
To ensure the safe and effective operation of the system, it is important
to make sure that the Collar is fitted properly.
1. Be sure your dog is safely within the Roaming Area and the
Correction Level is set to Tone Only.
2. With your dog standing comfortably, position the Collar high
on your dog’s neck, underneath the chin with the Probes facing
upward and centered on your dog’s neck. The Havahart® logo
should be right side up when you look at your dog.
3. Make sure the Probes maintain contact with skin.
Collar is factory installed with long Probes for thick or
long-haired breeds.
Short Probes for short-haired dogs are included
To change the Probes, simply unscrew the long Probes and
replace them. Be sure the rubber washer is between the
Probe and the Grey Battery Housing. Use your fingers to
tighten the Probes as far as you can. Do not over tighten.
4. Adjust the Collar to fit snugly but not tightly. You should be able
to slide the tip of one finger between your dog’s coat and one
of the Probes on the Collar. The tip of your finger should not be
able to slip between the two easily, but with some effort. It
should be a tight squeeze (see Illustration I). Separately, you should
be able to slide one finger between the strap of the Collar and the
back of your dog’s neck.
5. Once the Collar is adjusted to the correct length, remove
the Collar and trim the excess using scissors (see Illustration J).
The Collar should be snug enough so that
it does not move when your dog moves.
To help prevent skin irritation, it is
recommended that you never leave
the Collar on your dog for more than
12 consecutive hours at a time.
If you do not remove the Collar from
your dog’s neck at least every 12 hours
AND clean your dog’s neck and the
Collar, Pressure Necrosis may occur
which is a deterioration of your dog’s
skin. It is caused by extended contact
to the pressure of the Probes of the
Collar combined with the oil and dirt
that may accumulate on the Probes if
not kept clean.
Illustration I Illustration J
IMPORTANT MESSAGE !
NOTE: If your dog is going to continue to grow or grows a
long winter coat, leave extra room before trimming off
the excess.
NOTE: It may be necessary to trim the hair around the
Probes to ensure reliable contact.
Important Collar Safety Guidelines:
1. During training, do not let your
dog wear the Collar without direct
supervision.
2. Each time you take the Collar off your
dog, look for any indication of a sore or
rash.
3. Should you find any indication of a sore
or rash on your dog, stop using the
Collar for a few days.
4. If the rash or sore exists for more than 2
days, consult your veterinarian.
5. Wash your dog’s neck weekly with
mild soap and a wash cloth and then
rinse clean.
6. Wash the Probes of the Collar weekly
with mild soap and a wash cloth and
then rinse clean.

Trigger Zone Imperfections:
It is normal for your Trigger Zone to have some imperfections as shown to
the right. This should not be a problem for the successful operation of your
wireless fence as the Fence Boundary is still closed.
If you see any small loops, jagged lines or cut-off areas, make sure the flags
are moved to the proper position to compensate for the unintended issue.
If this does not meet with your satisfaction, you can remove the Fence
Boundary and re-record it.
When re-recording and you are near the problem area, use the Pause Feature.
Press “Pause” to stop recording before the problem area, walk to the other
side, and press “Continue” to proceed with recording. This should connect
the Fence Boundary through the problem area.
Fence Boundary/Exclusion Zone Line Color Meanings:

Cut-Off Area
Factors Affecting Signal Strength
With perfect line of sight and no obstructions between the Controller and Bases, the system will create a Trigger Zone about 6
feet wide. With obstructions, the Trigger Zone can expand to around 13 feet wide. However, once set, your Fence Boundary/
Trigger Zone will remain consistent.
Various objects such as mirrors, microwaves, electric power meters or air conditioning units can interfere with the signal
strength of your Wireless Fence. This can result in a gradual loss in the measured distance of the radio signal from the Bases
to a set Trigger Zone. The part of the Trigger Zone that is obstructed by an object may bow or dip inward toward the Bases.
The resulting shape of the Trigger Zone may be slightly different and the Roaming Area may be slightly reduced. When this
happens, the object between the Bases and the set Trigger Zone is said to attenuate the radio signal or the Trigger Zone.
Obstacles that can slightly obstruct any wireless signal (including mobile phones) include: mirrors, microwaves, home appliances,
electric power meters, air conditioning units, metal screened porches, aluminum siding, metal downspouts, trees, large bushes,
above-ground pools and sheds.
Objects that will cause considerable obstruction are concrete walls, aluminum siding, metal roofs, densely wooded lots and
heavily landscaped properties.
The closer an obstructing object is to the Trigger Zone or the closer a metallic object such as a mirror is to one of the Bases, the
greater the interfering effect it can have on the Trigger Zone. Likewise, the more dense an obstructing object is, the more severe
the dip or shaping effect of the Trigger Zone.
Without performing complex calculations and accounting for all factors, it is very difficult to predict the exact amount of
interference different objects can cause and how the Trigger Zone and Roaming Area will be affected.
Despite all of the measures Havahart Wireless has taken to boost the signal strength of the Bases, attenuation is difficult to
totally prevent for any wireless fence system. Similar to the way buildings attenuate cell phone reception, your home will likely
attenuate your dog’s Roaming Area. In most cases the resulting dipping should be a minor issue that may not even be noticed.
In the event that your system experiences severe interference or attenuation with which you are not comfortable, there are a
few things that you can try to counter or lessen the effects:
Place the Bases above or at least 3 feet away from appliances and other large metal objects like mirrors inside the home.
Also make sure there are no obstructing objects, such as an electric power meter, near or immediately outside the wall
where your Bases are placed. The less material or objects the Bases’ signals have to go through to reach the outside,
the better.
Raise the Bases to 6-8 ft or to a higher floor in the home.
If the first two methods prove ineffective, choosing different Base locations in the home may be necessary.
Should you need additional help to minimize wireless signal interference for your Havahart® Wireless Dog Fence,
please call 1-800-800-1819, Option 1.

PRELIMINARY PHASE -- Flag Awareness Training - Optional (2-3 training sessions per day: each 10-15 minutes long)
Completing this phase will add 3 days to your training, but will give your dog more time to get used to the
Training Flags if you choose to complete it.
1. Take the Battery out of the Collar.
2. Fit the Havahart® Wireless Collar around your dog’s neck. Place a different
non-metal collar above the Havahart® Wireless Collar and attach a leash
to it. Make sure that this collar does not apply pressure to the Probes on
the Havahart® Wireless Collar as this could hurt your dog when you pull
on the leash.
3. Using the leash, walk your dog around inside the Roaming Area for
5 minutes, avoiding contact with the Trigger Zone.
4. Approach one of the Training Flags with your dog. When your dog gets close to the flag, gently shake the
flag while saying “Bad Flags” in a firm, disapproving tone. Do not yell or frighten your dog.
5. Lead your dog back into the Roaming Area and praise your dog.
6. Repeat this process at several different Training Flags.
7. End with lots of playtime and praise for your dog in the Roaming Area at least 10 feet away from the
Training Flags.
8. Be sure to remove the Havahart® Wireless Collar from your dog after each training session.
9. You may proceed to PHASE 1 when your dog avoids going near the Training Flags but will walk anywhere within
the Roaming Area.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
Please read the following information completely before you
begin training:
Proper training of your dog is essential to help ensure the
successful operation of your Custom-Shape Wireless Dog Fence.
We recommend that you train your dog for a minimum of 15
consecutive days. Use a calendar to track your dog’s progress.
Keep your training sessions short and frequent -- approximately 10-15 minutes long, 2-3 times a day.
Every dog is unique and may respond differently to the training depending on its age, size,
temperament and ability to learn. For this reason, you may need to adjust your training schedule accordingly.
It may be necessary to decrease the speed of the training schedule or add more training days if your dog seems
to be under stress. Signs that your dog may be under stress include: tail between legs, ears pulled back,
refusal to go outside the home and nervous shaking.
Before beginning Collar-assisted training, allow your dog to get used to wearing the Havahart® Wireless Collar with
the battery removed.
Have fun with your dog during the training process and end each session with positive praise and play
time in the Roaming Area at least 10 feet away from the Training Flags.
Be patient and consistent in your approach.
Remove the Havahart® Wireless Collar after each training session.
If you are training more than one dog, train each dog separately.
Should your dog breach the Trigger Zone while wearing the Havahart® Wireless Collar, unlike an underground wire fence,
your dog will not receive a separate correction for returning through the Trigger Zone back into the Roaming Area.
It is important that you complete the entire training process and do not skip any phases.
Leaving the Roaming Area with Your Dog
Once your dog becomes accustomed to the Trigger Zone, he may become uncomfortable leaving the Roaming Area for
activities such as walks or riding in the car. If you need to take your dog out of the Roaming Area, ALWAYS remove the
Havahart® Wireless Collar, and use one of the following methods:
1. Walk your dog outside of the Roaming Area while on a leash. Cross the same area of the Trigger Zone
flag line each time, giving a command such as “CROSS”, and praising your dog for crossing this specific area.
Always leave this area with your dog on a leash.
2. Carry your dog out.
3. Take your dog out in a car.
PHASE 2 -- Active Training -- DAY 4-7 (2-3 training sessions per day: each 10-15 minutes long)
1. Set the correction level to Static Level 1 (see Page 23).
2. To ensure the system is working properly, take the Havahart®
Wireless Collar to the Trigger Zone and use the Heart-Shaped Collar
Tester (see Page 23). The Heart-Shaped Collar Tester should light up.
3. Fit the Havahart® Wireless Collar around your dog’s neck. Place a
different non-metal collar above the Havahart® Wireless Collar and
attach a leash to it. Make sure that this collar does not apply pressure
to the Probes on the Havahart® Wireless Collar as this could hurt your
dog when you pull on the leash.
4. Using the leash, walk your dog around inside the Roaming Area for
5 minutes, avoiding contact with the Trigger Zone.
5. Calmly approach the Trigger Zone flag line -- do not look at your dog.
6. Give your dog the opportunity to pass into the Trigger Zone, where
he will hear a short tone and then receive a static correction.
7. Allow your dog to stay in the Trigger Zone for a few seconds while
receiving the static correction.
8. Gently shake a Training Flag to remind your dog that the flags are
associated with the short tone and static correction coming from
the Collar.
9. Lead your dog back into the Roaming Area and praise your dog.
10. Repeat this process at a few Training Flags.
11. If your dog does not respond to the static correction, check to make sure that the Havahart® Wireless Collar fits
properly (see Page 26). If your dog continues to not respond to the static correction, you may need to
increase the static correction to level 2 or higher as necessary.
12. End with lots of playtime and praise for your dog in the Roaming Area at least 10 feet away from the
Training Flags.
13. Be sure to remove the Havahart® Wireless Collar from your dog after each training session.
14. You may proceed to PHASE 3 when your dog avoids going near any of the Training Flags.

PHASE 1 -- Passive Training -- DAY 1-3 (2-3 training sessions per day: each 10-15 minutes long)
1. Insert a fully charged battery in the Havahart® Wireless Collar and set the correction level to Tone Only (see Page 23).
2. To ensure that the system is working properly, take the Havahart®
Wireless Collar by itself out to the Trigger Zone and listen for the tone.
3. Fit the Havahart® Wireless Collar around your dog’s neck. Place a different
non-metal collar above the Havahart® Wireless Collar and attach a leash
to it. Make sure that this collar does not apply pressure to the Probes on
the Havahart® Wireless Collar as this could hurt your dog when you pull on
the leash.
4. Using the leash, walk your dog around inside the Roaming Area for
5 minutes, avoiding contact with the Trigger Zone.
5. Calmly approach the Trigger Zone flag line -- do not look at your dog.
6. Give your dog the opportunity to pass into the Trigger Zone. He will hear a tone within the Trigger Zone.
7. Allow your dog to stay in the Trigger Zone for a few seconds while hearing the tone.
8. Gently shake a Training Flag while saying “Bad Flags” in a firm, disapproving tone to show your dog
that the flags are associated with the tone coming from the Havahart® Wireless Collar. Do not yell or frighten
your dog.
9. Lead your dog back into the Roaming Area and praise your dog.
10. Repeat this process at several different Training Flags.
11. As training progresses over the next 2 days, you should notice that when your dog hears the tone, he
will return to the Roaming Area without your prompting.
12. End with lots of playtime and praise for your dog in the Roaming Area at least 10 feet away from
the Training Flags.
13. Be sure to remove the Havahart® Wireless Collar from your dog after each training session.
14. You may proceed to PHASE 2 when your dog avoids going near the Training Flags when you approach and
actually turns to go back to the Roaming Area without your aid.
Do not force your dog to receive too
many static corrections as this may
make your dog nervous or anxious. It
may be necessary to decrease the speed
of the training schedule or add more
training days if your dog seems to be
under stress.
If your dog leaves the Roaming Area, he
will be corrected on the way out only.
Your dog will NOT be corrected when
returning to the Roaming Area from
outside the Trigger Zone.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE !
If your dog does not respond to the static correction.
Make sure the static correction level is set to 1 or above.
Test the Havahart® Wireless Collar with the Heart-Shaped Collar Tester to confirm static correction.
If the Tester lights up when you cross into the Trigger Zone, check the fit of the Havahart® Wireless Collar
on your dog.
If necessary, trim your dog’s hair where the Probes touch the neck and/or switch to the Long Probes.
Increase the static correction by one level.

PHASE 3 -- On-Leash Distractions -- DAY 8-11 (2-3 training sessions per day: each 10-15 minutes long)
2. Using the leash, walk your dog toward the Training Flags.
Create a distraction by:
1. Tossing a toy or treat outside the Trigger Zone.
2. Having someone walk by and not pay attention to your dog.
3. Having someone walk his/her own dog outside of the Trigger Zone.
3. If your dog does not move toward the distraction, immediately praise him.
4. If your dog moves toward the distraction, allow him to walk through the Trigger Zone and feel the correction.
5. Gently shake a Training Flag to remind your dog that the flags are associated with the short tone and static
correction coming from the Havahart® Wireless Collar.
6. Promptly lead your dog back to the Roaming Area if he does not return within a few seconds and praise him.
7. Repeat this process at several different Training Flags.
8. If your dog does not respond to the static correction, check to make sure that the Havahart® Wireless
Collar fits properly (see Page 26). If your dog continues to not respond to the static correction, you may need to
increase the static correction by one level or more as necessary.
9. End with lots of playtime and praise for your dog in the Roaming Area at least 10 feet away from the
Training Flags.
10. Be sure to remove the Havahart® Wireless Collar from your dog after each training session.
11. You may proceed to PHASE 4 when your dog will not go beyond the Trigger Zone --- even with distractions,
but will walk anywhere within the Roaming Area.
PHASE 4 -- Off-Leash Supervision -- DAY 12-15
Begin with short training sessions 10-15 minutes in length and gradually increase the sessions to an hour or more
1. Do not leave your dog unattended during this phase of training.
2. Fit the Havahart® Wireless Collar around your dog’s neck. Place a
different non-metal collar above the Havahart® Wireless Collar.
3. Walk around inside the Roaming Area and play with your dog while
off the leash.
4. Now focus your attention elsewhere and walk to another part of the
yard while keeping an eye on your dog.
5. If your dog crosses into and goes beyond the Trigger Zone, lead him
back inside the Roaming Area. Your dog will not be corrected when
he comes back into the Roaming Area.
6. Gently shake a flag to remind your dog that the flags are associated
with the short tone and static correction coming from the Havahart®
Wireless Collar.
7. Repeat the training from Phase 3 with distractions and a leash as
necessary.
8. End with lots of playtime and praise for your dog in the Roaming Area
at least 10 feet away from the Training Flags.
9. Be sure to remove the Havahart® Wireless Collar from your dog after each training session.
10. You may proceed to PHASE 5 when your dog no longer goes beyond the Trigger Zone ---
even with distractions, but will walk anywhere within the Roaming Area.

with or without distractions.
2. Fit the Havahart® Wireless Collar around your dog’s neck. Place a different non-metal Collar above the
Havahart® Wireless Collar.
3. Allow your dog to roam freely off leash within the Roaming Area.

Caution
The Custom-Shape Havahart® Wireless Dog Fence is neither a physical barrier nor a substitute for traditional obedience training. The system is designed to
act as a deterrent to remind dogs by auditory and/ or static correction to remain in the Trigger Zone established. It is important that you reinforce training
with your dog on a regular basis. Since the tolerance level to static correction varies from dog to dog, Woodstream Corporation CANNOT and DOES NOT
guarantee or warrant that the system will, in all cases, keep a dog within the established Trigger Zone. Not all dogs can be trained to avoid crossing the
Trigger Zone! Therefore, if you have reason to believe that your dog may pose a danger to others or harm himself if he is not kept from crossing the Trigger
Zone, you should NOT rely solely upon the Custom-Shape Havahart® Wireless Dog Fence to confine your dog. Woodstream Corporation shall NOT be liable
for any property damage, economic loss or any consequential damages sustained as a result of any animal crossing the Trigger Zone.
