R1700-AM  is a One Way AM 4 Button Remote.Safety Information Please take these safety precautions into consideration under the following conditions :  Under normal circumstances, Reservation Mode is cancelled when a door or hatchback opens.  Please verify that the openingof any door or hatchback cancels Reservation Mode.  If any of the doors or hatchbackare not monitored by CompuStar because of improper installation or a faulty dome lightswitch, do not use the CompuStar and take your vehicle immediately to the dealer forrepair.  Do not set Reservation Mode if the window(s) are open or if there is anyone inside the vehicle, this includes animals. Remote start installation in a manualtransmission vehicle with a convertible top is not recommended.Page 4I m p o r t a n t !1. Servicing the vehicleWhen servicing your automobile (i.e. changing the oil, washing your car), the  CompuStar system should be in Valet Mode.  There is a safety shutdown switch underthe hood that deactivates the remote starter function if the hood is open. However, if the switch has been damaged or the switch has been installed improperly,the vehicle may start when the          button is pressed for 2 seconds, even if the hood is open. 2. Loaning your vehicle to othersWhenever you loan your vehicle to an individual who is not familiar with Compustar, you may want to put the vehicle in Valet mode.  This will prevent the borrower from acci-dentally activating the CompuStar auto-security system.  3. Page 7Auto-Start Function Press the          button for 2 seconds to auto-start an automatic transmissionengine. Remember, that an actual key in the ignition is required to drive the car. For manual transmission vehicles, please use reservation mode.Press the          button for 2 seconds in order to turn off an auto-started car.The engine will run 15 or 25 minutes (25 or 45 min for diesel) depending on presetoptions at the time of installation, and then shut off.1234567Error Number(# of times the car chirps & parking lights flash)Error ReasonEngine OnKey OnDoor OpenTrunk OpenBrake On Hood OpenReservation Off (Manual Transmission Only)Diagnosing problems with Auto-Start If there is a problem in auto-starting your vehicle,the CompuStar system will doone of two things; if it fails for any of the reasons listed in the table below, it willflash the parkinglights three times then flash the error number. Otherwise, it willattempt to start the vehicle three times. If, after three times, the vehicle will notstart or stay running, the CompuStar system will shut down. In either case, pleasesee your istaller to resolve the situation.Keyless  EntryAlarm  ModePage 6Step2 :Within a 7 second period after cycling the ignition for the 5th time,Press the            button for a 1/2 sec.  The car parking lights will flash once to confirm that the transmitter has been programmed. You can continue programming additional remotes.  The parking lights will  flash two times when the programming mode has expired.                      To lock the vehicle, press the          button for 0.5 seconds.To unlock the vehicle, press the       button for 0.5 seconds.  If the pressing of thelock/unlock buttons does not lock/unlock the doors, you will need to release the but-ton and try again, as the remote stops transmitting as soon as the LED stops flash-ing.  If the           button is pressed for 3.5 seconds, it will panic the system.To arm the vehicle, press the          buttonuntil the LED on the remote stops flashing.To disarm the vehicle, press the        buttonuntil the LED on the remote stops flashing.  If pressing the arm/disarm buttons does not arm/disarm the vehicle, youwill need to release the button and try again, as the remote stops transmitting assoon as the LED stops flashing.Press the                      buttons for a 1/2 second to mute the vehicle horn or sirenwhen arming or disarming your vehicle.  Keep in mind that your car horn/siren willstill activate for all other modes (i.e. panic or alarm trigger) regardless of whether ornot your car horn/siren is in mute mode.  The car horn/siren will be mute only whenarming or disarming your vehicle. When the alarm is armed, the starter kill function (an optional feature provided byyour installer) is activated.  This feature disengages the starter mechanism on yourvehicle and prevents it from starting, even with a key.Note :If you lose your remote after you have armed the vehicle, use your keyto open the door. The siren will go off.  Turn the ignition on then off,       5 times with your key to shut down the alarm and put the system into valet mode.  You can cancel the valet mode with a remote later on.  See : Valet mode, on page 10.   Step1:Activate Valet/ Programming mode by manually turning the ignition on and off five times (between Acc and On)with the key within a 7 second period.The parking lights will flash once with successful completion of this step.Note : Siren duration is 30 to 60 seconds depending on the options set at the time of initial installation.
When the vehicle shuts off after reservation mode, the CompuStar system will lock/arm the vehicle. Take care to not lock your keys inside.If you try to auto-start the vehicle when reservation mode hasnot been set, the auto-start feature will not work.  When you press the auto-start button, the car parking lights will flash three times,pause, then flash seven times.In order to auto-start your manual transmission vehicle, you must first set the CompuStar system to Reservation Mode before leaving your vehicle.  The purpose of ReservationMode is to leave the transmission gear in the neutral position when you leave your vehicle.  Reservation mode is intended for use on MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS ONLY and NOT FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.  Reservation Mode must be engagedeach and every time you leave your manual transmission vehicle in order to auto-start it.Note : The system is not recommended for manual transmission vehicles with removable or convertible tops.  -Important requirements to activate Reservation Mode- The transmission must be in the NEUTRAL position. - The vehicle windows must be rolled up. - Do not set the reservation mode with people in the vehicle. - Do not auto-start the vehicle with people inside it. - Activating Reservation Mode( MANUAL TRANSMISSION ONLY )Step1 : After arriving at your destination, and BEFORE TURNING YOUR ENGINE OF F, place the transmission in the Neutral position.Step2 : Activate the parking brake.Step3 : Remove your foot from the foot brake.Step4 : Remove the key from the ignition, and the engine will remain running.Step5 : Exit the vehicle and close the door within two minutes after activating the parking brake.  The engine will shut off and reservation mode for the remote starter is now complete.Page 9-Canceling Reservation Mode  If you do not want to set reservation mode, shut off the engine before you exit the vehicle.  The engine will shut off for the following reasons : - You did not activate the parking brake or pressed the foot brake when you turned  the manual key to the off position. - You released the parking brake while the engine was running. - You entered Valet Mode after the Reservation Mode has been completed. Page 8Reservation Mode (manual transmission only)Trunk  ReleasePress the           button until the LED on the remote stops flashing, in order to unlockand release your trunk door.  If pressing the trunk release button does not releasethe trunk, you will need to release the button and try again, as the remote stopstransmitting as soon as the LED stops flashing.Note that the trunk release function will not only release the trunk but will unlock theall doors as well. I m p o r t a n t !I m p o r t a n t !Panic  Mode  Press the             button for 3.5 seconds to enter Panic Mode.  In this mode, the car will arm, if not armed already, and the siren/horn will activate and the parking lights will flash.In order to disengage Panic Mode, press the            button until the LED stops flashing.Then, press the button          for a 1/2 second to unlock/ disarm your vehicle.  A n t i - g r i n dThe anti-grind circuit (an optional feature provided by your installer) preventsyou from engaging the starter on a remote-started vehicle.Your vehicle is now ready for auto-starting.  However, the reservation mode will be cancelled if a door or hatch is opened, or if the CompuStar system is put in Valet mode.Once cancelled, you will have to start the vehicle with the key and repeat the above 5 steps if you want to restore reservation mode.Continuation Mode : (Stop and Go feature)While your vehicle is running with your key, press the          button for 2 seconds, you are now in the continuation mode.  Your engine will continue running for thepreset time even if you take your key out of the ignition.  You can now lock/arm thevehicle if you wish to.Example :For a quick stop when you don’t want to restart the vehicle.
Page 11Timer Start Mode In Timer Start Mode, your car automatically starts every 1.5 or 3.0 hours, depending on preset options during the time of installation, for a 24-hour period.  This mode is cancelled automatically after 24 hours or once you start your vehicle with the key or remote.  In orderto enter Timer Start Mode, press the                         buttons simultaneously for a 1/2 second. Please note : Timer Start Mode becomes Cold Start Modeonce an optional temperature sensor is installed.  I m p o r t a n t !Timer Start Mode should be used only in open areas. Never start and run the vehicle in an enclosed space such asa garage or carport.Safety  Shut Down FeaturesThe CompuStar R1700-AM system has several shut down safety features.  The following actions will shut down the engine or prevent the car from auto-starting: Opening  the hood, pressing the brake, or if valet mode is turned on.Page 10Valet  Mode While the vehicle is in valet mode, the only features that will function will be the keyless entry and optional auxiliary functions.In order to enter Valet mode, press the                          buttons simultaneously for a 1/2second.  In order to manually enter Valet Mode, insert your key into the ignition and turn the ignition on and off (between ACC and ON)five times within 7 secondsYou can exit Valet Mode only by pressing buttons  simultaneously for 1/2 second.OPTIONAL  PROGRAMMABLE  FEATURESIgnition  LockThese additional features may be programmed to the CompuStar system by yourauthorized CompuStar dealer.   Automatic Transmission Vehicles:This progammable option will automatically lock the vehicle doors once the key is in the ignition and the brake pedal is pressed.  The doors will unlock as soon as the key isremoved from the ignition.Manual Transmission vehicle:This progammable option will automatically lock the vehicle doors once the key is in the ignition and the brake pedal is pressed.  The doors will automatically unlock when the emergency brake is set while the vehicle is running with the key.Passive  LockingYou can turn this function on or off by pressing the                        buttons for a 1/2 second.  When set to passive locking, your system will lock automatically, 30 secondsafter all the doors/ hatch have been closed. If the A n t i - J a c k i n goption has been programmed (ask your dealer if you would l iketo have this option) and the Ignit ion-Kill has been installed , the Panic Mode worksas Anti-Jacking if the key is in the ignition. If Anti-Jacking mode is activated while keyis in the ignition,  a)the siren will go off for 1.5 minutes, and  b) the Ignition-Killwill be activated after the first 30 seconds.  This is to give a 30 second warn-ing to the hijacker, then to disconnect the ignition to stop the vehicle.Turbo  Mode If this optional Turbo Mode has been programmed at the time of installation,you can turnthis feature on and off by pressing Buttons                         for a 1/2 second .
Page 12Cold  Start  Mode OPTIONAL INSTALLATION FEATURESThe CompuStar R1700-AM  remote has additional features and expansion possibilities that require additional parts and labor. If the optional temperature sensor has been installed,Timer Start Mode becomesCold Start Mode.  In this mode, your car automatically starts if the temperature ofthe inside of the vehicle goes below the preset temperature. The minimum interval between the starts will be 1.5 or 3.0 hours depending on preset options during the time of installation.  Cold Start Mode is activated or deactivated by pressing Buttons                       for a 1/2 second.Optional Auxiliary 1 & Auxiliary 2The auxiliary system is an optional feature that can be tailored for your vehicleby your local authorized CompuStar dealership.  For example, you can customize your car to have remote power control of your windows, radio, and sunroof in addition to the rooftop on your convertible car.In this mode, if the emergency brake has been engaged, the engine will continue to runafter the key has been taken out of the ignition. It will run until two minutes after the emergency brake has been set.To utilize this mode, the emergency brake sensing wire has to be connected to the emergency brake wire of the vehicle.  Consult the authorized dealer for this mode.This option is ideal for turbo charged vehicles because it allows the turbo to cool down after operation.
