Servicing the vehicle When servi cing your automobile (i.e. changing the oil, washing your car), the C ompuStar system should be in Valet Mode. There is a safety shutdown switch under the hood that deactivates the rem ote starter function i f the hood is open. However, if the switch has been damaged or the switch has been installed impr operly, the vehicle m ay start w hen the button is pressed for 2 seconds, even if the hood is open. 2. Loaning your vehicle to others Whenever you loan your vehicle to an individual who i s not familiar with Com pustar, you may want to put the vehicle in V al et mode. This wi ll prevent the borrower fr om accidentally activati ng the CompuStar auto-security system . 3. For manual transmission vehicles If the Compustar R1700-AM is i nstalled in a manual transmission vehicle, extra precautions are required because the Compustar does not monitor the gear shift : Under normal circum stances, Reservation Mode is cancelled when a door or hatchback opens. Pl ease verify that the opening of any door or hatchback cancel s Reservati on Mode. I f any of the doors or hatchback are not monitored by C ompuStar because of im proper install ation or a faulty dome light swi tch, do not use the Com puStar and take your vehicle i mmediately to the dealer f or repai r. Do not set Reservation Mode if the w indow(s) are open or if ther e is anyone inside the vehicle, this incl udes animals. Remote start i nstallation i n a manual transmission vehi cle with a convertible top is not recommended. Important! Remote : R1700-AM R1700-A M is a One W ay AM 4 B utton Remote. Button Press Function 0.5 sec Lock. If held for 3.5 seconds, it will panic the system. 0.5 sec Unlock 0.5 sec Auxiliary Option 1 0.5 sec Auxiliary Option 2 2 sec Auto -start Function - on/off 2 sec Trunk Release 3.5 sec Panic, Press 0.5 sec Horn - on/off 0.5 sec Valet Mode - on/off 10 0.5 sec Passive Locking - on/off 11 0.5 sec Timer Start Mode - on/off 12 0.5 sec Turbo Mode - on/off 13 2 sec Programming Menu 1- Installer Only 14 2 sec Programming Menu 2- Installer Only to shut off. Note : " " Means, to press the button for 2 seconds. "( )" Means, to simultaneously pressing the buttons. " ( ) " Means, to simultaneously press the buttons for 2 seconds. Remote Learn Routine The Compustar system will allow up to three remotes to be programmed to one vehicle. Please perform the following procedure to add or reprogram additional remotes. Page 4 Page 5 Step1: Activate Valet/ Programming mode by manually turning the ignition on and off five times (between Acc and On) with the key within a 7 second period. The parking lights will flash once with successful completion of this step. Step2 : Within a 7 second period after cycling the ignition for the 5 th time, Press the button for a 1/2 sec. The car parking lights will flash once to confirm that the transmitter has been programmed. You can continue programming additional remotes. The parking lights will flash two times when the programming mode has expired. Keyless En try To lock the vehicle, press the button for 0.5 seconds. To unlock the vehicle, press the button for 0.5 seconds. If the pressing of the lock/unlock buttons does not lock/unlock the doors, you will need to release the button and try again, as the remote stops transmitting as soon as the LED stops flashing. If the button is pressed for 3.5 seconds, it will panic the system. Alarm Mode To arm the vehicle, press the buttonuntil the LED on the remote stops flashing. To disarm the vehicle, press the buttonuntil the LED on the remote stops flashing. If pressing the arm/disarm buttons does not arm/disarm the vehicle, you will need to release the button and try again, as the remote stops transmitting as soon as the LED stops flashing. Press the buttons for a 1/2 second to mute the vehicle horn or siren when arming or disarming your vehicle. Keep in mind that your car horn/siren will still activate for all other modes (i.e. panic or alarm trigger) regardless of whether or not your car horn/siren is in mute mode. The car horn/siren will be mute only when arming or disarming your vehicle. When the alarm is armed, the starter kill function (an optional feature provided by your installer) is activated. This feature disengages the starter mechanism on your vehicle and prevents it from starting, even with a key. Page 6 Note : If you lose your remote after you have armed the vehicle, use your key to open the door. The siren will go off. Turn the ignition on then off, 5 times with your key to shut down the alarm and put the system into valet mode. You can cancel the valet mode with a remote later on. See : Valet mode, on page 10. Note : Siren duration is 30 to 60 seconds depending on the options set at the time of initial installation. Auto-Start Fun ction Press the button for 2 seconds to auto-start an automatic transmission engine. Remember, that an actual key in the ignition is required to drive the car. For manual transmission vehicles, please use reservation mode. Press the button for 2 seconds in order to turn off an auto-started car. The engine will run 15 or 25 minutes (25 or 45 min for diesel) depending on preset options at the time of installation, and then shut off. Diagnosing problems with Auto-Start If there is a problem in auto-starting your vehicle,the CompuStar system will do one of two things; if it fails for any of the reasons listed in the table below, it will flash the parkinglights three times then flash the error number. Otherwise, it will attempt to start the vehicle three times. If, after three times, the vehicle will not start or stay running, the CompuStar system will shut down. In either case, please see your istaller to resolve the situation. Error Number (# of times the car chirps & parking lights flash) Error Reason Engine On Key On Door Open Trunk Open Brake On Hood Open Reservation Off (Manual Transmission Only) Page 7 Continuation Mode : (Stop and Go feature) While your vehicle is running with your key, press the button for 2 seconds, you are now in the continuation mode. Your engine will continue running for the preset time even if you take your key out of the ignition. You can now lock/arm the vehicle if you wish to. Example : For a quick stop when you don’t want to restart the vehicle. Anti-grind The anti-grind circuit (an optional feature provided by your installer) prevents you from engaging the starter on a remote-started vehicle. Reservation Mode (manual transmission only) In or der to auto-start your m anualtransmission vehicle, you must first set the CompuStar systemto Reservation Mode before l eaving your vehicle. The purpose of Reservation Mode i s to leave the tr ansmissi on gear in the neutr al position when you leave your vehicle. R eservation mode is i ntended for use on MANUAL TRANSMISSIO NS ONLY and NOT FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSI ONS. Reservati on Mode m ust be engaged each and every time you leave your manualtransmission vehicle in order to auto-start it. Note : The system is not r ecommended for manual transmi ssion vehicles wi th r emovable or conver tible tops. - Important requirements to activate Reservation Mode - The transmission must be in the NEUTRAL posi ti on. - The vehicle windows m ust be rolled up. - Do not set the reservation mode w ith people in the vehicle. - Do not auto-start the vehicle with people inside i t. Activating Reservation Mode ( MANUAL TRANSMISSION ONLY ) Step1 : After arriving at your destination, and B EFORE TURNING YO UR ENGI NE OFF, place the transmission in the Neutral position. Step2 : Activate the parki ng brake. Step3 : Rem ove your foot fromthe f oot brake. Step4 : Remove the key fromthe ignition, and the engi ne will r emain running. Step5 : Exit the vehicle and cl ose the door within two m inutes after activating the parking br ake. The engine will shut off and reservation mode for the r emote starter is now compl ete. Page 8 When the vehicle shuts off after reservati on mode, the CompuStar system willlock/ar m the vehicle. Take car e to not lock your keys insi de. Important! Your vehicl e is now ready for auto-starting. However, the reservation mode will be cancelled if a door or hatch is opened, or i f the CompuStar system is put in Valet mode. Once cancelled, you will have to start the vehicle with the key and repeat the above 5 steps if you want to restore reservation mode. If you try to auto- start the vehi cle when reservati on mode has not been set, the auto-start f eature will not work. When you press the auto-start button, the car parking lights will flash three times, pause, then flash seven times. Important! - Canceling Reservation Mode If you do not want to set reservation mode, shut off the engine before you exi t the vehicle. The engine willshut off for the fol lowing reasons : - You did not activate the parking brake or pressed the foot br ake when you turned the manualkey to the off positi on. - You released the parking brake while the engine was runni ng. - You entered Val et M ode af ter the Reservati on Mode has been compl eted. Trunk Release Press the button until the LED on the remote stops flashing, in order to unlock and release your trunk door. If pressing the trunk release button does not release the trunk, you will need to release the button and try again, as the remote stops transmitting as soon as the LED stops flashing. Note that the trunk release function will not only release the trunk but will unlock the all doors as well. Panic Mode Pr ess the button for 3.5 seconds to enter Panic Mode. In this mode, the car will arm, if not ar med already, and the siren/horn will activate and the parking lights will flash. In order to disengage Panic Mode, press the button until the LED stops flashing. Then, pr ess the button for a 1/2 second to unlock/ di sarm your vehicle. Page 9 Ifthe Anti-Jacking option has been programmed (askyour dealerifyou would like to have this option)and the Ignition-Kill has beeninstalled , the Panic Mode works as Anti-Jacking ifthe keyis in the ignition. IfAnti-Jacking mode is activated while key is in the ignition, a) the siren will go off for 1.5 minutes, and b) the Ignition-Kill will be activated after the first 30 seconds. This is to give a 30 second warning to the hijacker, then to disconnect the ignition to stop the vehicle. Safety Shut Down Features The CompuStar R1700-AM system has several shut down safety features. The following actions will shut down the engine or prevent the car from auto-starting : Opening the hood, pressing the brake, or if valet mode is turned on. OPTIONAL PROGRAMMABLE FEATURES Valet Mode While the vehicle is in valet mode, the only features that will function willbe the keyless entry and optionalauxiliary functions. In order to enter Valet mode, press the buttons sim ultaneously for a 1/2 second. In order to manually enter Valet Mode, insert your key into the ignition and turn the ignition on and off (between ACC and ON) five times within 7 seconds You can exit Valet Mode only by pressing buttons simultaneously for 1/2 second. These additional features may be programmed to the CompuStar system by your authorized CompuStar dealer. Ignition Lock Automatic Transmission Vehicles: This progammable option will automati cally lock the vehicle doors once the key is in the i gni ti on and the brake pedal is pressed. The doors will unlock as soon as the key is rem oved from the ignition. Manual Transmission vehicle: This progammable option will automatically lock the vehicle doors once the key is in the ignition and the brake pedal is pr essed. The doors willautomati cally unlock when the emer gency brake is set while the vehicle is running with the key. Timer Start Mode Passive Locking In Timer Start Mode, your car automaticall ystarts every 1.5 or 3.0 hours, depending on preset options during the time of installation, for a 24-hour period. This mode is cancell ed automatically after 24 hour s or once you start your vehicl e with the key or remote. In order to enter Timer Start Mode, press the buttons simultaneously for a 1/2 second. Please note : Timer Star t Mode becomes Cold Start Mode once an optional temperature sensor is installed. Timer Start Mode should be used only in open areas. Important! Never start and run the vehicle in an enclosed space such as You can tur n this function on or off by pressi ng the buttons for a 1/2 second. When set to passive locking, your system willlock automatically, 30 seconds after all the doors/ hatch have been closed. Turbo Mode If this optional Turbo Mode has been programmed at the time of installation, you can turn this feature on and off by pressing Buttons a garage or carport. Page 10 Page 11 for a 1/2 second . In this mode, if the emergency br ake has been engaged, the engine will continue to run after the key has been taken out of the ignition. It wi ll run until two minutes after the emergency brake has been set. To util ize this mode, the em ergency brake sensing wire has to be connected to the emergency brake wire of the vehicle. C onsult the authori zed deal er for thi s mode. This option is idealfor turbo charged vehicles because it allows the turbo to cooldown after oper ation. OPTIONAL INSTALLATION FEATURES The CompuStar R1700-AM remote has additional features and expansion possibilities that require additional parts and labor. Cold Start Mode If the optional temperature sensor has been installed, Timer Start Mode becomes Cold Start Mode. In this mode, your car automatically starts if the temperature of the inside of the vehicle goes below the preset temperature. The minimum interval between the starts will be 1.5 or 3.0 hours depending on preset options during the time of installation. Cold Start Mode is activated or deactivated by pressing Buttons for a 1/2 second. Optional Auxiliary 1 & Auxiliary 2 The auxiliary system is an optional feature that can be tailored for your vehicle by your local authorized CompuStar dealership. For example, you can customize your car to have remote power control of your windows, radio, and sunroof in addition to the rooftop on your convertible car. Page 12
