This procedure requires a system reboot. The system configuration is stored on the Host. Rebooting the Host therefore results in a loss of RF for the Host and connected Remote Units until the Host comes back up. Depending on the system configuration, it can take 5 to 20 minutes before management communication is restored. CAUTION! Host configuration will not persist across a Configure Feature Reboot—all settings will revert to factory default. You will need to reconfigure the Prism system after the system reboots.CAUTION! The current EMS session will close and you will need to log back in to the EMS after the Host reboot has completed.1Docum ent all configuration data, as set tings will have to be re- ent ered. A t ypical scenario involves t he devices being cont rolled, rem ot e com puters ( called m anagers) that can cont rol them , a network connect ion, and SNMP soft ware. The SNMP software includes SNMP m anager soft ware on cont rolling com put ers, SNMP agent soft ware on m anaged devices, and one or m ore MI Bs used by the SNMP m anagers for each cont rolled device. I n som e cases, SNMP proxy agent software is run on an int erm ediate device t o access a m anaged device t hat would not ot herwise be directly accessible. The Prism syst em SNMP int erface, shown schem at ically in Figure 27 allows a rem ot e user using an SNMP m anager t o access t he sam e dat abase as accessed by the st andard EMS interface.Figure 27. Procedural details may vary with another browser, but the basic steps are the same.NOTE: In the Prism system, the database accessed through the SNMP interface is the same database as used by the EMS graphical user interface. There is therefore a similarity between MIB objects and the parameters displayed in the EMS Web pages.Figure 28 shows t he features of a t ypical MI B browser.Figure 28. Typical MIB BrowserAs m entioned earlier, a MI B is a database specificat ion cont aining definitions and organizat ion of inform at ion. The database consist s of tables of obj ect s used t o exchange inform ation between a m anager and agent . Dat abase inform ation is exchanged using the following basic operat ions: •GET—obt ains an obj ect value from t he dat abase.•SET—set s t he value of an obj ect in the database.•GET-NEXT—get s the next it em in the database, be it t he next t ype of obj ect or the next obj ect of t he specified t ype. This is especially useful for discovering the presence of ent ries in dynam ic t ables.•GET-BULK—requests m ultiple item s in one m essage.•TRAP/NOTIFICATION—sends an alarm in which a response can be sent by a m anager t o an agent confirm ing receipt of t he alarm .

Figure 29. Prism MIB TreeMI B it em s are arranged in a hierarchy of groups, like a hierarchy of folders. Known OI Ds specify scalars ( obj ect s) . MI B obj ects are arranged in groups and t ables. To be specified com plet ely, t able entries require one or m ore row indices. Each set of obj ect s (wit hin a single folder) represents one such group or table. An obj ect m arked wit h a key sym bol indicates that view is t he key value for t hat table. The Prism MI B is defined by t hree files:•ADC-FWU-URH-TC-MIB.mib •ADC-FWU-IRS-TC-MIB.mib •ADC-FLEXWAVE-URH.mib The MI B can be found on t he SeRF I I card in the Host in /usr/local/fwu/mibs. “ Prism MI B Obj ect s” on page 236 list s object s t hat m ay be accessed for GET/SEToperations and t raps/ not ificat ions that are sent t o SNMP m anagers regist ered t o receive t hem whenever t he respective fault condit ion occurs. NOTE: TRAPS/NOTIFICATIONS are listed with the corresponding EMS alarm in “Troubleshooting Alarms” on page 185.
