Troubleshooting
Chapter4.fm
When E1 or E2 is shown
When the status code E1 or E2 is shown, paper is jammed between the
paper feed section (front paper tray or the cassette) and the EP cartridge.
Clear the paper jam as follows.
1. Open the top cover all the way to the back until it stops. If the front
paper tray is closed, open it.
Warning:
Make sure the top cover is opened all the way to the
back until it stops. (Also, when closing, slowly close the
top cover.)
Important: If printouts still remain in the paper output tray, remove
them before opening the top cover; otherwise paper jam
may result.
Do not touch any parts inside the printer.
2. If paper was fed from the front paper tray, remove all paper from the
tray.

4.5 Other Problems
Unusual noise
This section describes possible reasons for noise problems during printing. Go through the list below to find the condition that most resembles the
problem, and follow the recommended action. If the trouble persists, turn
the printer off, disconnect the power cord from the AC outlet, and contact
your dealer or an authorized service station.
Possible Cause
Action
The printer is not placed on a
level surface.
Place printer on a level surface.
See “2.1 Installation Precautions” and “3.10
Relocating the Printer”.
The top cover is open.
Close the top cover firmly.
The cassette is not inserted
properly.
Insert the cassette completely into the printer.
Foreign object is inside the
printer.
Turn the printer off and remove the foreign
object.
Important:
If the object cannot be removed easily, contact
your dealer or an authorized service station.
Cassette is jammed
This section describes possible reasons for cassette jamming. Follow the
recommended action to resolve the problem. If the trouble persists, turn
the printer off, disconnect the power cord from the AC outlet, and contact
your dealer or an authorized service station.
Possible Cause
The top cover was opened or
the power switch was turned
off during printing.
Note:
Saja Operation Manual
10/12/00
Action
Do not try to remove the cassette by force. Turn
the power off, wait for a few seconds, and then
turn the power back on again. When the display
shows [READY TO PRINT], try to remove or
insert the cassette.
To prevent the cassette from being dropped, there is a catch
that stops it before being fully removed from the printer. This
is not a defect. Simply lift the cassette slightly and then carefully pull it out all the way.
During insertion of the cassette, the paper holder descends
automatically, which is felt as a slight resistance when pushing the cassette in. This is also not a defect.

Use of the following media will lead to paper jams and print quality problems.
• Excessively thick or thin paper
• Paper that has already been printed
• Wrinkled, torn or bent paper
• Moist or wet paper
• Curled paper
• Paper with an electrostatic charge
• Glued paper
• Paper with special coating
• Color paper with surface treatment
• Paper unable to withstand temperatures of 150°C
• Thermal paper
• Carbon paper
• Paper with paper fastener, ribbons, tape etc. attached
• Heavily textured paper

Storing Print Media
In addition to using print media according to specifications, proper storage
is important to avoid print quality problems and paper jams. For optimum
quality and printer performance, you should store print media according to
the following guidelines.
* Ambient conditions
Temperature:
10 to 30°C
Relative humidity:
30 to 65%
* Storage precautions
• Store print media in a dry location.
• After opening, wrap unused media in the original wrapping paper
and store in a cabinet or other location with low humidity.
• Store print media horizontally on a flat surface.
• Do not expose print media to direct sunlight.

Appendix B Options and Consumables
This section describes available options and consumables used by the
printer. To order any of these, please contact the dealer where you purchased your printer.
Consumables
* EP cartridge (20,000 sheets)
Two types of EP cartridges are available: one capable of printing about
8,000 sheets and the other about 17,000 sheets of A4 size paper. (The
first cartridge supplied with the printer has a capacity of 8,000 sheets.)
This number refers to a coverage of 5% of the page, with print density set
to the lowest level. When printing graphics or text that covers more than
5% of the page, the number of sheets that can be printed with one cartridge will be less.
When the toner in the EP cartridge runs low, printing will become very
light and blanks may occur. In this case, replace the EP cartridge with a
new one. For details on how to replace the cartridge, see “2.2 Installing
the EP Cartridge” and “3.2 Replacing the EP Cartridge”.
BTR roller
The BTR roller is used for transferring toner onto the paper, and should
be replaced after printing of 200,000 sheets. However, depending on the
operating conditions, the roller may have to be replaced before that number is reached. For details on how to replace the BTR roller, see “3.3
Replacing the BTR Roller”.

Fuser
The fuser is used for fixing toner onto paper, and should be replaced after
printing of 200,000 sheets. However, depending on the operating conditions, the fuser may have to be replaced before that number is reached.
For details on how to replace the fuser, see “3.4 Replacing the Fuser”.
Feed roller (HCF)
The feed roller is used for transporting paper from the High Capacity
Feeder. You need to replace the feed roller after about 200,000 prints.
However, depending on the operating conditions, the replacement may
still be required even though this number has not been reached. See the
“3.5 Replacing the Feed Rollers(HCF)” section for detailed information on
how to replace the feed roller.

Caution:
• Before connecting the interface cable or installing any
options, be sure to turn the power switch of the printer off,
to prevent the danger of electric shock.
• This printer is very heavy. The weight of the main unit without paper cassette, consumables, and paper is about
26kg. Never attempt to lift the printer by yourself. The
printer should always be lifted by two persons.
• To lift the printer, have two persons facing each other from
the front (with operation panel) and the rear of the printer.
Grasp the four bottom corners. Never try to lift the printer
while holding any part other than the bottom corners. Otherwise there is a severe risk of injury if the printer is
dropped.
