14 Installing the system1-3. Installing the computerInstalling your computer may be easier than you think. Before the installation, be sureto turn off the computer and other peripheral devices. The mouse and keyboard con-nectors look identical; therefore, check the icons above the connectors before attach-ing the mouse and keyboard. Your computer may be installed with different expansioncards from the picture below. 15Installing the system℘Connecting a keyboardThe keyboard cable has a round connector with 6 pins. Align the pins and holes, and attach the keyboard cable to the computeras shown in the picture.ℙConnecting a mouse The mouse cable has a round connector with 6 pins.The round connector on the mouse cable fits into the PS/2 connectoron the rear of the computer. For using the monitor, refer to the user manual that comes with the monitor.Connecting a printer(customer purchased device)The printer cable and power cord are included with the printer. For using the printer, refer to the user manual that comes with the printer.Connecting a speaker(customer purchased device)Your computer does not have built-in speakers. You must attach an external speaker to output sound.℘Connect the monitor cable to the video card. The monitor cable sends signalfrom the computer to monitor.ℙConnect the power cable to the monitor and plug it into an electrical outlet. Thepower cord supplies power from the electrical outlet to monitor. You must turnon and off the monitor with the power button on the monitor. You should complete registrationprocess. Start registration process following the instruction after turning on the com-puter.2-1.Turning on the computerⓞPressing the power switch starts the self-diagnostic procedures; then Windows(R) XPstartup screen is displayed .In a moment, a dialogue box, saying "Welcome toMicrosoft Windows" appears on the screen.
