USER MANUALBARRYVOX®S26ENLike all transceivers, the Barryvox® contains shock sensitive ferrite antennas. Therefore, you should handle it with utmost care!Store the device and the carrying system in a dry spot that is protected from extreme cold or heat and direct sunshine.Always check the result of the self- and battery test, pay atten-tion to alert messages and carry out the group check.It is your responsibility to frequently check your Barryvox® for mechanical damage of the casing, proper function of the main switch, battery compartment cover as well as cleanliness and mechanical integrity of the battery contacts.To ensure the proper performance of the transceiver, it is highly recommended that you send your device to an o cial Barryvox® service center once every three years for a functional test. The recommended date of the next check can be viewed under «Maintenance» in the shut down sequence of the device. (see chapter «Periodic Checks» of the Barryvox®S Extended Reference Manual).InterferencesAlways avoid having other electronic devices (e.g. mobile phones, radios, headlamps, cameras), metal objects (pocket knives, magnetic buttons), or other transceivers close to (20 cm in SEND; 50 cm in SEARCH) your running avalanche transceiver.You should not wear clothing with magnetic buttons! Users of pacemakers are advised to carry the device in a secure pants pocket (no vital data detection). Consult the manufacturer’s instructions with regard to the impact on pacemakers. When searching, hold the device at a minimum of 50cm away from these objects and turn o any electronic devices, if possible. It is highly recommended to turn OFF mobile phones!HANDLING THE BARRYVOX®
USER MANUALBARRYVOX®S27ENBatteriesOnly use alkaline (LR03/AAA) or lithium (LR92/AAA) batteries of the same type. Always insert 3 new batteries of the same type. In case these batteries need to be removed, the same 3 batteries or 3 new batteries must be reinserted. Never use rechargeable batteries and always replace all the batteries at the same time.Make sure the lid is properly closed and that the device and the batteries stay dry.Use a fi ngernail or the leash clip to slide battery door to the left, and it will swing open. 2121Periodically inspect the battery compartment. Clean or dry it, if needed, since moisture can cause corrosion.Avoid touching the contacts with your hands, use a clean cloth.A reliable power supply is crucial for safe operation.When storing or not using the transceiver for an extended period of time (summer, travelling, shipping), remove alkaline as well as lithium batteries and leave the battery compartment open. The warranty becomes void if batteries have leaked! INITIAL SETUP
USER MANUALBARRYVOX®S28ENMain Switch OFF / SEND / SEARCHThe main switch is located on the top side of the device. In the left position OFF, the device is turned o , in the center position SEND the device is in SEND mode and in the right position SEARCH, the device is in SEARCH mode. For safety reasons, it is required to press the hinged unlock button to leave the SEND mode. To return from SEARCH to SEND, simply push the main switch sideways.Always make sure that the switch locks into position mechani-cally to avoid an undesired change of mode.User Interface and Use of Buttons The Barryvox®S uses an easy navigation based on three buttons: The two scroll-bar buttons located on the side and the orange Flag button on the front. To scroll up or down in any menu or list, use the up and down buttons on the side. To con-fi rm your selection, use the orange button on the front. The action triggered by pressing the button is shown in menus or in the softkey bar at the bottom of the screen. Samples:Press the button to……confi rm your selection. USER MANUALBARRYVOX®S29ENLanguage When turning the device on for the first time and switching to SEND, the user language must be selected. Use the scroll-bar to scroll up or down in the list and confirm your selection by pressing the button on the front.OwnerThe Barryvox® S allows you to enter your name, address, and other infor-mation, such as your phone number or e-mail address. This information is displayed every time the transceiver is turned on. («Settings» chapter of the Barryvox®S Extended Reference Guide)SettingsFor advanced recreational and professional users, you can adjust the Barryvox®S SEARCH Settings to best fit your requirements and abilities, for example to turn on the «Pro-Search» feature. USER MANUALBARRYVOX®S30ENBarryLeashAttach the BarryLeash to the bottom of the device.Start-Up / Self- and Battery TestWhile starting, the device conducts a self test. The result of the self-test is shown the fi rst time the device enters a SEND mode.If the battery power falls below 20% or the battery icon is displayed , the batteries must be replaced as soon as possible! The meanings of the di erent alert messages are described in detail in the Barryvox®S Extended Reference Guide. 1111. 2. 3.Carrying PositionsAdjust the BarryMount to fi t your body. Regardless of the carry-ing position, the display should always face your body!The detection of vital data is only possible if you carry the de-vice in the BarryMount. (Chapter«Triage Criteria and Vital Data» in the Barryvox®S Extended Reference Guide).
USER MANUALBARRYVOX®S31ENCarrying the Transceiver in a Pocket (without vital data detection) If you carry the Barryvox® in a pants pocket, the zipper must remain closed for the duration of the trip. Always use a secured pocket (see illustration). The wrist loop should be secured to your pants or around your belt.BarryMount (Recommended Carrying Position) The BarryMount should be put on over your innermost layer of clothing prior to beginning the trip (see illustration) and must be worn on your body for the duration of the trip. The transceiver must always remain covered by one layer of clothing. The device itself is inserted into the BarryMount according to the illustration. It should always remain attached to the holster using the clip of the BarryLeash.

The group leader activates the group check by switching their device from OFF to SEND and presses the button within the first seconds.GROUP CHECKParticipants –> SEND Leader –> Group Check
USER MANUALBARRYVOX®S35ENThe test is successful if you can clearly hear beep sounds from each participant‘s transceiver within the range indicated on the display.The members of the party must be spread out appropriately to avoid mutual interference. The indicated test distance must not be shortened, or the group check becomes very unreliable.Once all the participant‘s devices are tested, the group check is concluded. The group leader’s transceiver must be switched to the SEND mode.If no tone is heard within the indicated range, the device must not be used. Further procedure: 1. Check if the device is switched to SEND. 2. Replace the batteries. 3. Have the device checked by the manufacturer. Chapter « Maintenance and Repair » in the Barryvox®S Extended Reference Guide). If your Barryvox®S detects that the transmit frequency of the tested device is out of tolerance, a warning message will be shown. In this case, repeat the test with 5m distance between the par-ticipants to identify the defective transmitter. Such devices must be checked by the manufacturer.
USER MANUALBARRYVOX®S36EN The SEND mode is the normal operating mode outdoors or in all other situations in which there is a risk of avalanches. Each time the SEND mode is activated, this is confirmed by an ascending triple beep sound. Each individual signal pulse is tested. If the test is successful, this is confirmed by a blink of the red SEND-Control LED. If the device detects that the SEND function is compromised, the red SEND-Control LED stops flashing and the SEND indication on the screen shows an alert sign.To save battery power, the LCD screen is automatically deac-tivated in the SEND mode, but can be activated any time by pressing any button.Vital data on the person carrying the device was detected in the first 20min of burial time.The person carrying the device has not been moving for 45min.Vital Data and Burial Data For further information on vital data and burial data history, consult the Barryvox®S Extended Reference Guide.Rescue-Send Mode (Rescue-SEND)The Rescue-SEND mode serves the protection of the rescuer in case of a secondary avalanche. Rescuers who are involved in a rescue operation, but do not perform a transceiver search themselves (shovelers, probe line, surface search, search with other search devices etc.) activate Rescue-SEND instead of turning the device o. (Chapter «Rescue-SEND mode» in the Barryvox®S Extended Reference Guide).SEND Mode, person not moving or in a state of burial.SEND
USER MANUALBARRYVOX®S37EN Signal Search BarryTip: Move swiftly. Emergency plan, search strategies and search strip widths: please see back side of device. Search avalanche surface systemati-cally. During signal search, the rescuer has their visual focus on the surface of the debris in order to look for visual clues on the snow surface. The first signal is indicated by a distinct double beep sound. Coarse Search BarryTip: Move swiftly, move in the direction of the arrow.  Hold the transceiver with the extended arm horizontally in front of you. If the distance increases, then you are moving away from the victim. Continue the search in the opposite direction.Distance below 10 BarryTip: Reduce search speed, precisely follow the arrow. 12 Be aware that electronic devices including mobile phones used by other rescuers may disturb the search. Therefore it is highly recommended to switch o phones which are not absolutely required!SEARCH

USER MANUALBARRYVOX®S39EN Fine Search  BarryTip: Follow the arrow! Step slowly forward, backwards, left or right while holding the device at knee height. Pinpointing BarryTip: Place a visual indicator at the point where the Barryvox®S shows the probing spiral. The visual reference is important to probe in a systematic pattern. If the buried subject is hit with the probe, leave the probe in the snow. Mark the buried subject as «found» by pushing the button after you have successfully located it witha probe strike!Multiple BurialsThe marking feature allows to continue the search for further buried subjects by marking the previously located ones as found. Excavate the buried subjects already found while the search continues, unless the burial depth is particularly deep. (See chapter «Multiple Burials» in the Barryvox®S Extended Reference Guide).Automatic Revert to SEND For the safety of the rescuers, the device automatically switch-es into SEND mode after 4 minutes without user interaction or motion. To modify the automatic revert to SEND time: see chap-ter «Settings» in the Barryvox®S Extended Reference Guide.Leaving SEARCH Mode After 4 seconds the device automatically switches into SEND mode. Press the button during these 4 seconds to go into Rescue-SEND mode.34

All additional rescuers position themselves one shovel length from each other in the direction of snow removal, thus typically in the fall line. The rescuer at the tip of the conveyor belt digs directly follow-ing the probe to the buried subject, thus avoiding any chance to miss it.BarryTip: in hard snow, cut blocks with the shovel. USER MANUALBARRYVOX®S41EN W-Link Regions Europe and neighboring countries (W-Link Region A) [= light grey] US, Canadian, New Zealand and Australian Version (W-Link Region B) [= dark grey] Countries without W-Link [= black]  Countries with unknown region allocation [= white] Frequency regulations do not allow that the user modifies the frequency setting. To enable the user to take his Barryvox® with him when travelling into another region, it is possible to switch the W-Link o and on again when returning home.Please note that the W-Link setting has no eect on the signal which is used to locate a buried subject. If the W-Link is switched o, location information is not aect-ed, but transmission and reception of vital data is not possible (Chapter «Triage Criteria and Vital Data» of the Barryvox®S Extended Reference Guide).ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
USER MANUALBARRYVOX®S42ENWarranty There is a 2 year warranty on the Barryvox® transceiver (exclu-ding the batteries, the carrying system and the leash) from the date of purchase shown on the purchase receipt. If you register your device on www.Barryvox.com by completely filling in the required information, the existing warranty durati-on, starting from the date of purchase shown on the purchase receipt, will be prolonged by an additional 3 years of warranty.In case of a warranty claim, all parts that can be shown to have material or production defects will be replaced free of charge. Damage that can be traced to incorrect handling or normal wear and tear is excluded. The warranty is voided if the buyer or any non-authorized third party opens the device. This is also the case for devices that have been used with spare parts or accessories which are not original and are not recommended by the manufacturer. A fee will be charged for the diagnostic test of a transceiver not needing any repair. Warranty repairs do not extend the duration of the warranty. There is a six month warranty on replaced spare parts. Warranty repairs will only be conducted if the device is sent in along with the receipt. The owner will be charged for the shipping. No other warranty shall exist. Any liability for any kind of loss or damage including but not limited to any direct, indirect or consequential damage is explicitly excluded.

MODE D’EMPLOIBARRYVOX®SFR46Comme tout DVA, le Barryvox® contient aussi des antennes de ferrite sensibles aux chocs. Manipulez donc votre appareil avec les plus grandes précautions! Conservez l’appareil et le système de fi xation à un emplacement sec, protégé des températures extrêmes – basses et élevées – et à l’abri des rayons directs du soleil. Veuillez toujours observer le résultat de l’autotest de l’appareil et du test des piles, ainsi que d’éven-tuels messages d’erreur, et e ectuez le test de groupe.Nous vous recommandons en outre de vérifi er votre Barryvox® régulièrement et sous votre responsabilité, notamment les dégâts mécaniques du boîtier, le fonctionnement correct de l’interrupteur principal et du couvercle du logement des piles, ainsi que la propreté et l’absence de corrosion des contacts des piles.Il est vivement recommandé de faire vérifi er le fonctionnement de l’appareil tous les 3 ans. A cet e et, envoyez votre appareil à un point service o ciel Barryvox®. La date du prochain contrôle peut être a chée sous «Entretien» lors de l’arrêt de l’appareil. (Chapitre «Contrôle périodique par un point service Barryvox» dans le manuel de référence Barryvox® S.)PerturbationsEvitez la présence d’appareils électroniques (par ex. téléphones mobiles, appareils radio, lampes frontales, app. photo), d’objets métalliques (par ex. couteau de poche, boutons magnétiques) ou un autre DVA à proximité immédiate d’un DVA enclenché (20 cm en mode SEND, 50 cm en mode SEARCH.Ne portez pas de vêtements avec des boutons magnétiques! Aux porteurs de stimulateurs cardiaques, il est recommandé de porter le DVA dans une poche de pantalon sécurisée (pas de détection des données vitales). Concernant les perturbations possibles du stimulateur cardiaque, référez-vous aux directives de son fabricant.Au cours de la recherche, votre appareil doit être éloigné d’au moins 50 cm de tels objets. Il est instamment recom-mandé d’éteindre les appareils électroniques dont l’usage n’est pas impératif, notamment les téléphones mobiles!PRISE EN MAIN DE VOTRE BARRYVOX®
MODE D’EMPLOIBARRYVOX®SFR47PilesUtilisez exclusivement des piles alcalines (LR03/AAA) ou au lithium (L92/AAA) du même type. Il faut toujours installer 3 nouvelles piles du même type. Si ces piles sont retirées, il faut réintroduire les 3 mêmes piles ou 3 piles neuves. N’utilisez en aucun cas des piles rechargeables et remplacez toujours toutes les piles en même temps. Veillez à ce que le couvercle soit cor-rectement encliqueté et que les piles et l’appareil restent secs.Utilisez un ongle ou le crochet de la dragonne pour pousser le couvercle du compartiment des piles vers la gauche, et ainsi l’ouvrir.2121Vérifi ez périodiquement le compartiment des piles et net-toyez-le, resp. séchez-le si nécessaire. En e et, de l’humi-dité dans le compartiment des piles peut occasionner de la corrosion. Ne pas toucher les contacts avec les doigts. Pour le nettoyage, utilisez un chi on non pelucheux.Une alimentation fi able en énergie est essentielle pour la sécurité d’utilisation. Lors du stockage ou pendant les périodes où vous n’utilisez pas votre Barryvox (en été, en voyage, pour l’envoi), retirez les piles alcalines ou au lithium de l’appareil. Aucune ga-rantie n’est accordée aux appareils dont les piles ont coulé! MISE EN SERVICE
MODE D’EMPLOIBARRYVOX®SFR48Interrupteur principal OFF / SEND / SEARCHL’interrupteur principal se trouve sur la face supérieure de l’appareil. En position gauche OFF l’appareil est déclenché, en position médiane SEND l’appareil est en mode d’émission et en position droite SEARCH le mode de recherche est activé. Pour quitter la position SEND, il faut en plus presser le bouton de déverrouillage pour des raisons de sécurité. Par une pression latérale sur l’interrupteur coulissant on peut revenir en tout temps de SEARCH à SEND. Assurez-vous chaque fois que l’interrupteur s’encliquette mécaniquement, afi n d’éviter toute modifi cation involontaire de l’état de l’appareil.Concept de commande et usage des touches Le Barryvox®S se distingue par son fonctionnement simple et convivial. La commande s’e ectue par trois touches.Les deux touches latérales permettent de dérouler le texte vers le haut ou le bas dans un menu ou une liste quelconque. Pour confi rmer votre choix, utilisez la touche principale sur la face avant qui est marquée du symbole . Dans tous les cas de fi gure, le DVA est toujours porté avec l’a cha-ge contre le corps! La détection des infos vitales n’est possible qu’en portant l’ap-pareil avec la sangle BarryMount (chapitre «Critères de triage et infos vitales» dans le manuel de référence Barryvox®S).
MODE D’EMPLOIBARRYVOX®SFR51Appareil dans la poche (pas de détection des infos vitales) Si vous portez le Barryvox® dans une poche, la fermeture éclair doit rester fermée pendant toute la durée de la course. A cet e et, veillez à n’utiliser qu’une poche sécurisée, conformém-ent au dessin. Fixez si possible la dragonne au pantalon ou passez-la dans la ceinture.BarryMount (port recommandé) Avant le début de la randonnée, la sangle BarryMount doit toujours être installée sur la première couche de vêtements (voir dessin). L’appareil est ainsi proche du corps pendant toute la randonnée. Le DVA doit toujours être couvert d’un vêtement. Le dessin montre comment l’appareil est introduit dans la san-gle BarryMount. Grâce au mousqueton de la sangle, l’appareil reste en permanence fi xé à la sangle BarryMount.

MODE D’EMPLOIBARRYVOX®SFR541 m3 m Test de groupe simpleAvant de partir pour une randonnée ou avant une descente, il faut tester les DVA de tous les membres du groupe. Les participants commutent leur DVA en mode d’émission. Le chef de groupe règle son DVA sur «Test de groupe» en com-mutant son appareil de OFF à SEND et en pressant la touche pendant les premières secondes.TEST DE GROUPEParticipant –> SEND Chef –> Test de groupe
MODE D’EMPLOIBARRYVOX®SFR55Le test s’est déroulé avec succès lorsque le chef de groupe a nettement entendu les tonalités pour chaque participant à la distance test achée.Lors du test de groupe, les participants doivent être susamment espacés pour exclure toute influence réciproque. La distance test achée doit être strictement respectée, sinon le test de groupe perd sa pertinence.Le test de groupe est terminé lorsque les appareils de tous les participants ont été testés. Le chef commute alors également son DVA en mode d’émission.Si aucun son n’est perceptible à la distance de test, l’appareil testé ne doit pas être utilisé.Marche à suivre: 1. Vérifiez si l’appareil est bien en mode SEND. 2. Remplacez les piles 3. Faites vérifier l’appareil par le fabricant. (chapitre «Entretien et réparation» dans le manuel de référence Barryvox® S ). Si votre Barryvox® S constate que la fréquence d’émission de l’appareil testé est diérente de la norme prescrite, l’appareil ache un avertissement. Dans ce cas, répétez le test avec une distance de 5 m entre les participants de manière à identifier l’émetteur défectueux. De tels appareils doivent être vérifiés par le fabricant.
MODE D’EMPLOIBARRYVOX®SFR56 Dans le terrain ou dans toutes les autres situations où existe un risque d’avalanche, le mode d’émission est le mode d’exploitation normal.Chaque fois que vous activez le mode SEND, l’opération est confirmée par une séquence de trois sons ascendants.Chaque signal d’impulsion émis est sur-veillé. Lorsque la vérification est positive, la lumière de contrôle rouge SEND s’allume.Si l’appareil constate que la fonction SEND est compromise, la lumière de contrôle SEND ne clignote plus et l’achage SEND avertit l’utilisateur par un point d’exclama-tion.Pour économiser du courant, l’achage LCD est automa-tiquement désactivé en mode d’émission. Il peut toutefois être réactivé à n’importe quel moment en pressant une touche quelconque. Les infos vitales de l’enseveli ont pu être mesurées durant les pre-mières 20 min d’ensevelissement. Les sauveteurs qui participent à un sauvetage mais qui n’eectuent pas de recherche au DVA (pelletage, sondage, recherche de surface, recherche avec d’autres moyens, etc.) commutent leur appareil en mode d’émission de sauvetage au lieu de le déclencher.
