ENGLISHPolar Cadence Sensor Bluetooth®Smart isdesigned to measure cadence, i.e. crankrevolutions per minute, when cycling.Polar Cadence Sensor Bluetooth®Smart iscompatible with Bluetooth®Smart Readydevices that support Bluetooth®Cycling Speedand Cadence Service. When using asmartphone, a separate application is requiredto view cadence sensor data. It is recommendedto use the Polar Beat application but it is alsopossible to use other applications.SYSTEM IMAGE1
If you have a polarpersonaltrainer.com account,Polar Beat automatically synchronizes yourtraining files to it. Please note that you mustsign in to your polarpersonaltrainer.com accountwhen starting Polar Beat for the autosync towork. The latest version of this user manual can bedownloaded at www.polar.com/support.Please follow the pictures on the inner covers.Write the device ID printed on your cadencesensor in the space on the inner front cover(picture 1). The original marking may fade asa result of normal wear and tear.Product Elements1. Cadence Sensor (pictures 2 A and 4 A)2. Cadence Magnet (picture 4 B)2ENGLISH
Installing the Cadence SensorFor a video tutorial, see Installing PolarCadence Sensor Bluetooth®Smart atwww.polar.com/en/polar_community/videos.To install the cadence sensor and cadencemagnet, you need cutters.1. Check the chain stay for a suitable placefor the cadence sensor (picture 2). Do notinstall the sensor on the same side as thechain. The Polar logo on the sensor shouldbe facing away from the crank (picture 4).2. Attach the rubber part to the sensor(picture 3).3. Clean and dry a suitable place for thesensor and place the sensor on the chainstay (picture 4 A). If the sensor touches therotating crank, turn the sensor slightlyupwards. Pass the cable ties over thesensor and rubber part. Do not tighten themfully yet.4. Place the cadence magnet vertically on theinner side of the crank (picture 4 B). Beforeattaching the magnet, clean and dry thearea thoroughly. Attach the magnet to thecrank and secure with the tape.ENGLISH 3
5. Fine-tune the positioning of the sensor sothat the magnet passes close to the sensorwithout actually touching it (picture 5).Move the sensor towards the magnet so thatthe gap between the sensor and the magnetis under 4 mm/0.16’’. The gap is correctwhen you can fit a cable tie between themagnet and the sensor. There is a smallcaved dot at the backside of the sensor, which indicates the spot the magnet shouldbe pointing at when passing the sensor.6. Rotate the crank to test the cadencesensor. The flashing red light on the sensorindicates that the magnet and the sensorare positioned correctly. If you keeprotating the crank, the light will go off.Tighten the cable ties securely and cut offany excess cable tie ends.Cadence Sensor PairingYour new cadence sensor must be paired withthe receiving device in order to receive cadencedata. This enables training in a group withoutinterference from other sensors. For moreinformation, see the user guidance material ofthe receiving device or mobile application.4ENGLISH
Care and MaintenanceKeep the cadence sensor clean. Clean it with a mildsoap and water solution, and rinse off with clean water.Dry it carefully with a soft towel. Never use alcohol orany abrasive material, such as steel wool or cleaningchemicals. Do not immerse the cadence sensor inwater.Your safety is important to us. Check that you can turnyour handlebars normally, and that the cable wires forbrakes or gears do not catch the sensor. Make sure thesensor does not disturb pedaling or using the brakes orgears. While riding your bike, keep your eyes on theroad to prevent possible accidents and injury. Avoidhard hits as these may damage the sensor.Replacement magnet sets can be purchased separately.Cadence sensor batteryThe battery cannot be replaced. The sensor is sealed inorder to maximize mechanical longevity and reliability. To purchase a new sensor, contact your authorizedPolar Service Center or retailer. The battery level of your sensor is displayed on thereceiving device if it supports Bluetooth®BatteryService. To increase battery life, Polar Cadence SensorBluetooth®Smart goes into power saving mode in tenminutes if the magnet is not passing the sensor.ENGLISH 5
Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat should I do if......the cadence reading is 0 or there is no cadencereading while cycling?• Make sure the position and distance of the cadencesensor to the crank magnet are appropriate.• Check that you have activated the cadence functionin the receiving device. For further information, seethe user guidance material of the receiving device ormobile application.• If the 0 reading appears irregularly, this may be dueto temporary electromagnetic interference in yourcurrent surroundings.• If the 0 reading is constant, the battery may beempty....there are irregular cadence or heart rate readings?• Disturbance may occur near microwave ovens andcomputers. Also WLAN base stations may causeinterference when training with Polar CadenceSensor Bluetooth®Smart. To avoid erratic readingor misbehaviors, move away from possible sourcesof disturbance. How do I know...... if the sensor is transmitting data to the receivingdevice?•When you begin cycling, a flashing red lightindicates that the sensor is alive and it istransmitting cadence signal. As you continuecycling, the light goes off.6ENGLISH
