When card is at the left (near printing unit)1.Adjust the direction of the tilted card with yourhand such that it is parallel with the card guide.2.Turn the knob of the card transfer in the anti-clockwise direction to transfer card to thestacker.3.Install the ink cassette and close the printer door.Refer to pages 13 and 14 of this manual.Printer will start to initialize and return to the Ready mode.C. When card can barely be seen from the encoding unit1.Open the jog cover behind the card cassette, turnthe jog dial in the anti-clockwise (upward)direction to move card into the encoder. 32Troubleshooting (continued)Static electricity in our bodiesdischarged to the thermal head may cause it to breakdown. Before exchange, touch metal parts of the printersuch as the screw to release the static electricity.Do not touch the heating unit of the thermal head withyour hand. If you have done so, follow procedures onthe page 25 of this manual to perform cleaning uponchanging the thermal head.Carry out the work carefully and avoid knocking theheating unit of the thermal head against any hard object.Ensure that printer is switched off before changing.Do not loosen or remove any screws for whichinstructions are not given in the procedures.CAUTION1.Place your fingers on top of the door and openby pulling it towards you.Open slowly while supporting it with your hands.2.Remove ink ribbon cassetteHold the lock lever with your fingers and lift it to unlock.When ink ribbon is installed, pull out the cassette by about3cm and turn the knob on the cassette in the directionindicated by the arrow to tighten the ribbon sag.Remove the cassette while supporting it with both hands.Stand cassette on a flat and firm surface.Procedures for Changing Thermal HeadWhen the ink ribbon is installed, becareful not to drop the ink ribbon into the interior of theprinter when removing the cassette.CAUTION3.Open the door for head exchangeRemove the 2 fastening screws on the left of the printer’shead exchange door using a – (flathead) driver.UnlockRemove sagEject cassetteSlide the head exchange door to the left and remove bylifting it up.2112

348.Insert head cables A and B.Press the head down slowly so that the cables can beeasily inserted.A click sound will be heard, indicating that the cassetteis locked.Push the fastening bearing at the head fastening unitforward and insert to the right to lock it securely.Hold the part that is directly above the cable connectorand insert them slowly and securely one by one.9.Return the head cooling fan to its originalposition.10.Mount the head exchange doorMount the head exchange door by reversing the steps in3. and fasten the 2 screws securely.11.Insert cassette against the guide rail.Unlock the cassette again. Refer to step 1.While making sure that the ink ribbon does not sag, pushthe cassette all the way in along the guide rail and lowerthe lock lever to lock the cassette.Ribbon sags will result in jammed inkribbon and uneven color caused by wrinkles when thecassette is attached.CAUTIONInserting the cassette by force whenthe guide shaft is not properly placed in the guide railmay damage the device.CAUTIONFastening BearingHead Fastening UnitTroubleshooting (continued)
3512.Close printer door.Shut the printer door tightly by pressing on the top rightsection of the door indicated by the word “PUSH”.To prevent damage, the door is madein such a way that it cannot be closed properly whenthe ink ribbon cassette is not locked or when thecassette is not inserted. Closing the door by force insuch a case may damage the device.CAUTIONChecking After Changing Thermal HeadAfter changing the thermal head, confirm printposition by carrying out test print using color inkribbons.To perform a test print, press the Reset and Cleanbuttons on the control panel simultaneously for morethan 1 second when the Ready LED is lit.A test pattern will be printed. Ensure that marginsaround the card are almost equal (approximately 0.2~ 0.3 mm) on the top, bottom, left and right.Procedure for changing thermal head is now complete.Adjust the printer setting function on the statusmonitor if the margin is not equal. Procedures forusing the status monitor can be found in theinstruction manual (electronic manual).The density of print may change slightly before andafter changing the thermal head.
