When the phone is off, you can use the Palmapplications on your Smartphone. If the phone’s power is off, thesmall LCD at the top of the phone is off and the Phone Offindicator appears at the top left corner of the Smartphone mainscreen.When the phone is turned on:• The time and date appear at the top of the screen, along withsymbols showing battery and signal strength.• You can send and receive calls. If there is an incoming,outgoing, or active phone call, information about the callappears on the screen.• You can use the phone. You can use Palm applications whilemaking a phone call. If you are using an application when thephone rings, you can answer the call with confidence. TheSmartphone stores your work for you automatically.Phone LCD turns offwhen the phone is off.Phone OffPhone Off indicator

Making a CallYou can make a phone call using the Dialer on the screen.To make a call using the Dialer:1. If the phone is not powered on, press and hold the phonebutton on the front of the Smartphone. For details, see pagexx.2. Key in the area code and the phone number by tapping thenumber digits in the Phone screen with the stylus.The number displays on the top of the screen as you tap them.3. When the number is correctly displayed, tap the TALK buttonto dial the number.4. During a call, the call duration time displays. To clear the last digit displayed, tap the CLR button briefly.To clear the whole display, touch and hold down the CLR buttonfor more than one second.Advanced Calling FeaturesIn addition to calls that you make by dialing the number, you canmake calls directly from the Voice Dial, Speed Dial, AddressBook, and Call History menu options.Voice DialingIf you have set voice dial for the number you want to call (seepage xx), you can use voice to make a call.To set a voice dial:To use voice dial, you first set the phone to recognize the nameof the person you are calling. To place voice dialing calls:1. In the Phone screen, tap the         button on the screen.2. To redial the number,just touch and hold down the TALK button in the Phone screen.Using the Address BookYou can store the phone numbers called regularly in memory,called the Address Book. You then simply recall the number todial. For further information on Address Book, see page xx.To make a call from the Address Book:1. In the Phone screen, tap the Menu icon      . The phone menulist appears.2. Select Address List from the Calls menu. The Address Book listappears in alphabetic order.3. To scroll through the list if necessary, press the scroll buttonson the front of the Smartphone. Tip: You can quickly open the Outgoing calls list by tapping       icon onthe bottom of the Phone screen.3. The selected calls list appears. The date/time stamp displaysfor each log. If there is an internal Address Book match, the correspondingname displays. If not, only the phone number displays.symbol indicates you have successfully dialed or received thecall.       symbol indicates you have not connected or missedthe call.4. To scroll through the list if necessary, press the scroll buttons  and     on the front panel of the Smartphone.5. Tap the desired number inthe calls list. When pop-up menu appears, select Save. TheAddress New screen opens which allows you to create a newaddress book entry.To see the details:To see more information about the selected entry, select Detailsfrom the pop-up options. You can see the details about a Specificentry.To delete one number from the outgoing calls list:The phone automatically replaces older calls with newer ones.However, if you want to delete a selected number from the callslist immediately, tap the number you want to erase in the calls list.From the pop-up menu, select Delete.To delete all outgoing calls number:To delete all numbers from the calls list, tap                  button inthe list.Using Four-digit DialYour phone provides the option of four-digit dialing of numbersstored in the internal Address Book or the outgoing calls list. Thisallows you to enter the last four consecutive digits of someone’sphone number, have your phone remember the rest, and then dialit for you.Delete All

Making Emergency CallsYou can dial 911 or any emergency numbers you have pre-specified even when the Smartphone is locked. For details onlocking the Smartphone, see page xx.To make an emergency call when the phone is locked:1. Tap Emergency Calls in the System Lockout screen.2. Phone screen appears. If the caller can be identified, the caller’s phone number(or name if pre-stored in your Address Book) is displayed both onthe main screen and small LCD at the top of the phone. If thecaller cannot be identified, only the message ‘Incoming’ isdisplayed.To answer the call:Tap any button on the Phone screen(except END).You can adjust the volume of the ringerfor that call with the volume buttons onthe left side of the phone.Note: You can answer a call while using a menu feature. The screen alertsyou with the incoming call message. Tap Yes to answer the call, or Noto reject the call. If rejected, the call will be forwarded to your voicemailbox. 56 USING PHONE AND MESSAGINGIn-Call OptionsYour phone provides a number of functions that you can useduring a call. You may not utilize all of these functions at alltimes. Many of the in-call options are network services.Tap the Menu icon        on the bottom ofthe Phone screen during a call. The Busymenu appears on the screen which allowsyou to access the following options. RecordThis option allows you to record voice conversation. Using theVoice Recorder button on the left side of the phone, you can alsorecord the telephone conversation. For details, see page xx.Mute This option allows you to switch your phone’s microphone off, sothat the other party cannot hear you. *Mute* displays on thescreen. To resume, tap the Menu icon        and select this option again inthe Busy menu.Silent KeyThis option does not transmit the key tones. Use this option when you leave yourphone number for the person to return your call.Tone ListThis option allows you to send DTMF tones of the numbers youhave previously stored in the Tone list. DTMF tones can be usedto control electronic phone services, such as a bank account orvoice mail system. To use this option, you should store the numbers you want tosend as DTMF tones, for example, the bank account number andpassword. To register DTMF numbers:1. In the Phone screen, press the Menu icon        to open thePhone menus.2. Select Tone list from the Calls menu.3. Tap the New button.4. Enter the desired number, then tap the OK button.

Select the desired number in the Tone List. 3. Tap the TALK button.Call WaitingYou can answer an incoming call while you have a call inprogress, if this service is supported by the network. Tap the TALK button again to switch between the two parties.Making a Conference CallThree-way calling enables user to conduct conference calls withtwo separate parties simultaneously. Users are billed air time foreach outgoing call separately.To make a conference call:1. Call the first conference participant.2. During a conversation, press TALK button, enter the phonenumber for the second participant, them press TALK again. Thephone places the other party on hold.3. When the party answers, press TALK again to connect with theoriginal party.
60 USING PHONE AND MESSAGINGAdvanced Phone FeaturesViewing Missed CallsIf you are unable to answer a call, you can find out who wascalling you, if this service is available on your network. You cancall the person back, if necessary.The number of missed calls is displayed on the small LCD at thetop of the smartphone and the last caller name (if stored in theinternal Address Book) and the phone number is also displayedimmediately after the call was missed.If you tap the TALK button on this screen, you’ll be connected tothe last caller you have not answered. If you press any other keyson this screen, the missed call notification screen disappears. To view the missed calls:1. In the Phone screen, tap the Menu icon       to open Phonemenus.2. You can alsoreset the call timer.To review the air time:1. In the Phone screen, tap the Menu icon       to open the Phonemenus.2. Select Airtime from the Calls menu. 3. The Air Time screen appears. Select the call type you want toview the air time.4. You can review the last call time,the total number of calls and the airtime for all the selected calls,independently, since the last resetaction.Tentative

If you want to reset the call timer, tap the Erase Total button,then the OK button.To exit, tap the Done button.Using Key guardUse the Key guard feature to make sure that keys are notpressed accidentally (for example, if the Smartphone slips aroundinside a briefcase). The Key guard remains on until you eitherturn it off or answer a phone call.Note: For additional security, you can lock your Smartphone with apassword. See page xx.To turn on Key guard:In the Phone screen, tap and hold down the Key guard iconon the bottom until KEY GUARD appears on the screen.If you receive a call while Key guard is turned on:Press TALK to answer the call. Key guard is automatically turnedoff.To unlock Key guard:Tap and hold down the Key guard icon       until KEY GUARDdisappears on the screen.

You can also listen to your recordings. Themaximum length of a recording is 30 ???? seconds.To record:1. Press and hold       button on the left side of the Smartphone. 2. The Voice Memo Record screen appears. Begin your recordingafter a beep. If you are recording a telephone conversation,both parties will hear a beep when the recording starts.➜➜

Press       button on the left side of the Smartphone briefly. 2. The Voice Memo List opens and shows a list of all the soundfiles currently stored in your Smartphone. You’ll see the length,which is measured in seconds, of the file and the date and timeit was recorded.5. Edit the title, then tap OK when completed.Allows you to recorda new voice memo.

To start playing again, press the Record button.5. SMS (Short Message Service)The Short Message Service enables you to talk and receive shortmessages. You can also receive voice mails. To talk and receiveshort messages, the SMS must be supported by the network youare using. Contact your home service provider for details.Note: To send or receive messages, the phone’s power must be on.Sending a Short MessageTo write and talk a new short message:1. Wake up the Smartphone screen, if necessary, by using thepower button on the right side of the Smartphone.2. Choose the following options to launch SMS application:• Tap       icon to open the Applications Launcher, then tap theSMS icon.• In the Phone screen, tap the Menu icon       to open thePhone menus, then tap Inbox or Outbox from the Messagesmenu.66 USING PHONE AND MESSAGINGThe screen will be inserted
3. When the Messages screen opens, tap the New button. The New Message screen opens. 4. To enter the recipient's mobile phone number in the To field,enter the number. For details on entering numbers, see pagexx.If you already stored the number in your phone’s Address Book,you can select it by tapping the To button. For details onAddress Book, refer to page xx.5. If you want to set the message’s priority, tap the pick list. Youcan select either Normal, or Urgent from the pick list.6. To enter the callback number, tap the Call # field to positionthe cursor, then type in the desired numbers. You can enter up to 160 characters. The character countershows how many characters you have typed at the top of thescreen.7. The remote phoneshould have SMS capability to receive your message. All sentmessages are stored in the Outbox.To view messages you wrote:1. Once you are in the Message screen, select Outbox aftertapping the pick list in the upper-right corner of the Messagesscreen.2. Tap the desired message, then tap the Edit button to changethe contents. After you edit the message, you can send or saveit to Draft folder.To delete, tap the Delete button. All received messages are stored in the InBoxfolder.A received short message can be a normal short message,paging message or notification of a voice message in your voicemailbox. To read or listen to messages:When a new message has arrived,         icon appears at the topof screen and the Incoming message screen opens whichprovides Read, Listen, or Call button according to the type ofmessages. Tapping the button allows you to read the textmessage contents, to connect to the voice mail server, or to dialthe paging number. Tapping the Cancel button returns to Standbymode.The small LCD at the top of the Smartphone also displaysincoming message alert:• With Callback numberNew Voicemail123-456-7890! An icon next to themessage indicates the message type.3. Tap the desired message from the list. USING PHONE AND MESSAGING 733Deleting a SMS MessageThe Inbox and Outbox folders can store up to 50 messages each.When the inbox folder is full, you cannot receive any moremessages until you delete old messages. When the Outbox folderis full, the oldest message is automatically deleted when Sendinga new message. To manually delete a message:1. When you see the messages list received in the Inbox folder orstored in the Outbox folder of the Messages screen, select themessage you want to delete. 2. Tap the Delete button. You are asked to delete the selectedmessage.3. Tap the OK button to confirm.To delete all messages:1. When you are in the Messages screen, tap the Menu icon      .2. Tap the Message tab, and select Delete All. You are asked toconfirm the deletion.3. Tap the OK button to delete all messages.Note: Voicemail messages are automatically deleted after you listen to thecorresponding message in your voicemail box. Voicemail messagescannot be deleted using phone menus.

80 USING PHONE AND MESSAGINGSetting Security OptionsYour Smartphone includes a Security application that lets you setoptions to protect entries from unauthorized users in a variety ofways:The Security application lets you: • Mask or hide entries you have defined as private. The Maskoption displays a gray bar over private records, and the Hideoption completely removes (hides) private records. • Assign a password to viewing options to enhance security.Assigning a password requires you to enter a password beforeprivate entries can be viewed; not assigning a password letsyou view private entries when you Show Records from theSecurity dialog box. • Lock and turn off your Smartphone so that a password must beentered before you can use the device again. • Hide records that you have defined as private, with or withouta password. Without a password, private records are hiddenuntil you set the Security application to display them; with apassword, you must enter the password to view the privateentries.To access the Security menu:Choose from the following options:• In the Applications Launcher, tap the Security icon.• In the Phone menu screen, tap Security from the Options tab.

When you mask privaterecords, a visual place holder appears where the record wouldnormally be displayed; when you hide records, they are notvisible anywhere in the list.For information on how to mask private records and how to hideprivate records, see page xx.Assigning and Editing PasswordsYou can assign a password to protect your private records and tolock your Smartphone.Once you define a password, you can change or delete it at anytime. You must enter the current password before you canchange or delete it. If you’ve forgotten your password, you can delete it. USING PHONE AND MESSAGING 833Locking Your SmartphoneYou can turn off and lock your Smartphone with a password toprotect information. You must then enter the password when youturn on your device to gain access to the information on it. Important! If you forget the password, you must perform a hardreset to resume using your Smartphone. Performing a hard resetdeletes all the records in your Smartphone; however, you canrestore all synchronized data at the next HotSync operation. See“Performing a Hard Reset” in Appendix A for more information. To lock your Smartphone:1. Tap Details in the Security screen.2. Tap the Lock pick list, and select from the following options:• Off – The phone remains unlocked.• Now – The phone locks immediately and stays locked untilthe lock code is entered.• Power On – The phone locks automatically the next timeyour phone is powered on and stays locked until the lockcode is entered.The screen will be inserted

These options give you powerful tools to manageyour phone.To restrict calls:1. Tap Details in the Security screen.2. Select the following options:• Restrict incoming call – With this checkbox selected, youcan set your phone not to receive incoming calls.• Restrict outgoing call – With this checkbox selected, youcan set your phone not to make outgoing calls.Registering Emergency CallYour phone provides the option of storing three emergencynumbers.All three emergency numbers can be manually dialed at any timeeven when your phone is locked or all outgoing calls arerestricted. This can be a useful feature for controlling whatnumbers can be dialed from your phone.To store emergency numbers:1. Tap Details in the Security screen.2. Tap the location and enter the desired number, then tap OK.
